Dan LeVine Mellion

I would recommend Dan to anyone that is even remotely thinking about taking on any type of remodel or construction in their home. I am a single mom that just could not offer any time or brain power to my much needed remodel, Dan jumped in and took over every detail you could imagine and everything ran as smooth as possible. His kind heart and great sense and talent for what he does shows in his work. I would call him back for any of my construction needs in the future.

As first time home buyers we were interested in getting some simple contract work done in our garage. Dan estimated $ 6500 but slapped us with a $ 8500 bill at the end of it all (and told us he was doing us a favor by not charging $ 9500).
I thought Dan was a stand up guy who knew his stuff when I met him, and his estimate was on par with another contractor’s for the work so we went with him. However we were not pleased at the large increase in price. What bothered us most was that Dan didn’t create a formal, written estimate, or update us on the increase in price until the very end of the job, nor did he even ask us if going over budget was okay. In fact he knew we were new homeowners on a very tight budget — and his going over cut into some of our emergency savings.
We are new to paying for contractors. I have no complaints about the quality of his work, but I do question the business process used. In retrospect I think we should have gotten a written estimate up front.

Dan is a wonderful contractor who will be involved as much or as little as you need and who manages to keep a sense of humor throughout the whole ordeal (albeit a bit sarcastic, but I think that’s to be expected in this industry.)
I met Dan as a «rescue contractor» — he rescued me from a remodel that I thought I could manage myself but that quickly began to overwhelm and stress me out immensely. He was willing to step in and extricate me from my mess and charge an hourly fee — that way only paying for services as needed and managing those things that I could myself. Additionally, he did not add a mark-​up to the sub-​contractors he referred me to (which is the common practice in contractor world). To me this raised his level of integrity and honesty in my eyes. He could have easily had his subs tack on a bit extra for him yet he did not. He was more than willing to work with the contractors I’d already secured (a great carpenter, Larry, a fabulous electrician Nate Accomazzo and a really wonderful tiler Steve Accomazzo (yep — he’s Nate’s dad). The contractors that Dan brought in were very courteous and professional and everyone worked well together. The amount of stress that Dan relieved was unbelievable! In addition, he caught issues here and there that I wouldn’t have known about and assured that no little detail was missed.
If you need someone for a remodel give Dan a call. He’ll do a great job for you (whether a job from beginning to end or a rescue like mine) and he’s just an all around good guy in general.
