Unethical AND poor customer service! Buyer beware! CROOKS and scammers!
They tried to charge me $ 85 for new wipers, AND one of their guys broke my gear shifter button!
I just moved west of Fort Worth and needed to get my car inspected and registered. I did some Googling to find a reputable auto shop nearby, and FWA came up with great reviews. They claimed that the shop was a place where they are honest about what needs to be done and had fair prices. That’s exactly what I was looking for, so I breathed a sigh of relief.
I’m pretty sure those reviews are written by their employees because that is the opposite of what happened to me yesterday.
I went into the office and told them I needed an inspection. Two minutes later, the man at the desk speaks up to say that my car needs wiper blades. His words were, «You need new wiper blades. I won’t inspect it until you have wiper blades.» Ooooooookay.
He said it would cost me $ 85.
$ 85!!! This isn’t a Jaguar, dude, this is a 12 year old Grand Am. Those wiper blades better be crusted with diamond dust for $ 85.
Alarms started going off in my head. I texted my husband to make sure this was as ridiculous as it sounded to me. He responded, «DON’T LET THEM TOUCH THE CAR. RUN.»
He said in another text that the wipers would be $ 10 at Auto Zone.
I told the man at the desk that I wasn’t going to do that. He said, «Alright, we’ll bring your car out.»
I got in my car and went to put it in reverse, and noticed that a prong had broken off my shifter button.
I went back inside and very calmly let the man at the desk know that someone had broken my button. He never apologized or accepted any responsibility for the shop breaking it.
Someone at your shop breaks something on my car and that’s how you handle it? How about, «Sorry about that ma’am, let’s see what we can do about that» and finding a solution. Instead, he bickered with me for about 10 minutes about why they SHOULDN’T fix the thing on my car that THEY broke.
Finally the guy took the button in the back and fixed it with a special plastic glue. I thanked him and left. That’s all I wanted. He could have not argued with me for 10 minutes and just done that to begin with. I was so glad to leave without having to give these guys any money. I was nearly in tears.
I went to AutoZone and told the guys at there what had happened and what I needed. They asked who it was and I told them, they weren’t surprised.
They said, «That was not a good welcome to Texas!» and hooked me up with some decent wiper blades for $ 20. And it took me all of 30 seconds to put them on myself.
They also gave me a recommendation to go to RE Maintenance in Aledo, saying the owner has been in business a long time and does solid, reputable work — which I did, and the service there was outstanding.
$ 85, what a ripoff. Total scam! If you feel like you need to patronize this business for some reason, take someone knowledgeable if you aren’t. They are sneaky, and will obviously take advantage of you if they feel like they can.
