Cog Wild offers day tours, shuttles and mountain bike vacations for riders of all levels. We also offer clinics to enhance all riders skills on a mountain bike.

We are based in Bend, Oregon and take riders all over the state. Some of our popular destinations include the McKenzie River Trail, the North Umpqua Trail, Mt Hood region and of course the trails around Bend.

Oregon has amazing mountain biking and Cog Wild is your resource for making the most out of your time while on vacation.

Cog Wild offers bike rentals for our guests. We are sponsored by Deschutes Brewery and have beer for all our 21 and older tour guests!

History

Established in 1999.

Cog Wild was started by Woody Starr in 1999. In 2005, Melanie Fisher and Lev Stryker took over ownership and have continued to grow Cog Wild into the successful tour company it is today.

Cog Wild currently has 25 guides and 4 office employees that love what they do and have a blast taking all our guests riding.

Every year we add new tours and destinations. And every year we take hundreds of people riding on singletrack across the state of Oregon.

Business Owner

Melanie as well as her business partner Lev, has a long history with cycling, including mountain biking since her late teens. Her love of biking has resulted in dragging her mountain bike around the world to far away places such as India, Nepal, Thailand, New Zealand, Japan and Australia. With her husband Lawrence, a road trip to Bend years ago was all that was needed for them to make Bend home. Bend has a vibrant bike community, which Melanie enjoys being a part of.

Took a half day family trip. Our guide was patient with our boys and worked hard to make the experience enjoyable. Best part was riding the man-​maded rolling hills.

Awesome day out with the Cogwild crew today, we had a small group of 8 with two guides who took us on a half-​day ride, the Single Track Sampler.
Local knowledge was super helpful, the bikes were in excellent condition and the weather was unbeatable for enjoyment.
The guys were a little disorganised to begin with but once everything was underway we were smooth sailing.
Don’t try and navigate yourself, do a session with these guys to get you setup.

Awsome! The best trails I’ve been on! Such good fun. Russ was my guide. (which ended up one on one) after talking about what i was used to riding and what i might like to try, he set up a killer route down the hill, lots of trail variety, obstacles, drops, logs to ride on! It was invaluable to have trail knowledge called out as we rode rocks, drops, swoops, and everthing else on the trail! Russ took the time to record (with my phone!) my attempt to navigate some cool stuff! Very pleased with the day. Extremely glad i paid for this and, I hope to do it again. But, im bringing some of my friends! I didn’t interact with much of the cogwild staff in person but, they were chill and happy to answer my questions and made arrangements for Russ to take me out on a seemingly dead Tuesday! Thanks again!

My brother and I booked the MRT shuttle, bachelor to bend tour and shuttle to Wanoga. I can’t believe how well it all worked out. I never used a mt bike guide service before and was skeptical about the $ 110 price for the bachelor to bend tour. It was completely worth it! Our guide, Greg, really helped make that ride as fun as possible. Emily was our driver for the MRT shuttle. It was a long, 1.5 hr drive to the trailhead. She made sure all of us riding that day were well informed about the trail and what to expect on the ride. All said, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I highly recommend Cog Wild and can’t wait to go back and use their services again.

Fantastic day riding the Bachelor to Bend route. Our guide Greg (great name by the way!) took us on a fantastic day of riding some great trails. The staff at Cog Wild were helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the bikes, the trails, and technical aspects of the rides. Our group consisted of just three – me and another customer and our guide Greg. We had an amazing day and tore up some single track when it was all said and done, we had just under 31 miles under our belts and enjoyed a few deserved beers back at CW’s office.
Thanks for the memorable day CW and I will make sure to recommend you to others considering MTN bike rides (both supported and mon-​supported in the Bend area).

I had a wonderful all day tour in August 2015 with cog wild. We had two clients and one guide, Gearnot (sp?). I considered getting a shuttle ride and trying to figure out the trails by myself, but in this case it was definitely worth it to pay for the local knowledge. Some of the more popular trails were closed due to construction and wildlife closures, so having a guide really made the difference.
Once you ride the trails a few times, or are really good at following a GPS track, or have a local who can go with you, getting a shuttle ride up to Mount bachelor for $ 15 is a really killer deal.
But for my first time in this area, getting 30+ miles of almost all singletrack in in one day was pretty spectacular.
Our guide was fit competent, and funny. Having a tasty local microbrew at the end was an especially nice touch.
I would definitely return and use this company again, either guide or shuttle, you can’t go wrong.

The skills clinic in bend was amazing! I learned things I didn’t even know I needed to learn! Our coach Erika was fantastic! She was so enthusiastic and really seemed connected with our group! She explained what we would be doing, asked for our input on what we wanted to learn and we practiced then rode out on the trails to practice more. Melanie Fisher was awesome, she did such a great job with food, drinks and added fun :-) I am really hoping to this again next year.

I participated in a women’s MTB clinic put on my Cog Wild in conjunction with the Ladies Allride Tour with Lindsey Voreis & crew. I must say, I had a fantastic experience. I had the unfortunate experience of slicing my leg open. The whole team reacted quickly and professionally. After securing the cut, they rushed me to a local hospital. Before dropping me off, the Cog Wild shuttle driver, Zach, made sure that I had his cell phone number in case I needed to be picked back up, driven anywhere else, etc. Top notch service with a smile!

A must do while in Bend. With so many trail options, Alex (our guide) gave awesome recommendations of trails in regards to technicality of terrain, scenic viewpoints, distance and amount of climbs and downhills we wanted from the Bend mountain biking experience. Absolutely the best. I can’t recommend Cog Wild enough. I did two full day guided tours back to back, and they were the two best days on a mountain bike of my life.
The trails were amazing, the bikes were high quality and well maintained, the staff super friendly and super knowledgeable.
The tours were absolutely perfection, I can’t wait to go back.

Our half-​day singletrack mountain biking excursion was fantastic! We were new to mountain biking and got up to speed by the incredibly helpful and informative guide Russ. We covered a few different routes showcasing the beautiful Oregon forest and Deschutes River. We stopped riverside for a trail snack and some pictures, and closed the journey with a delicious Deschutes brew. We wouldn’t have been able to navigate the trail nor have as comfortably challenging of a time without a guide. I highly suggest Cog Wild and their services and will hopefully be back in the future!

Best Trip Ever!
My LA Mt. Bike crew just finished Cog’s 3 day McKenzie Tour and it was by far the best tour and about the best riding I’ve ever done – we’ve all ever done. Rides through old Growth forest, hanging with green moss, that was like bob-​sledding through the forest. Rides so powerful and overwhelming in joy that I could hardly sleep at night as images of giant ferns, giant trees and sweet, sweet singletrack seemed burned indelibly into my memory. A feeling shared by the entire crew!
Everything about the trip was top-​notch and a great guys getaway. The food, the rides, the beer, the Kombucha, Horse Creek Lodge, our guides ability to provide both excellent service and support while simultaneously feeling like part of the crew. We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait until next year’s trip.

My wife and I went on a mountain bike tour with Cog Wild as part of a corporate retreat in Bend. Overall, it was an excellent experience. The guides packed snacks for us, and all the gear was high quality. They were very knowledgeable about the area and stopped a few times during the ride to give us information about the area. When we got back to the shop, they even had some delicious kombucha for us. I’d definitely recommend Cog Wild if you’re interested in mountain biking in Bend.

What a perfect way to spend a day in Bend :) There were 3 of us riding and we took the 9 am shuttle up to Swampy Lakes TH. At first, I wasn’t too excited knowing that we were going to have a guide spend the day with us on the mountain. But, after riding, I couldn’t imagine riding without a guide (especially if you’ve never ridden Bachelor).
Our guide was Sara and she was amazing! The two guys in our group would get directions from Sara on which way to ride and take off. Sara hung back with me, giving me plenty of space to ride at my own pace. She was easy to talk to and there was never any pressure to go faster than I wanted to ride, even though I knew she could keep up with the guys in our group. My husband liked the fact that he could ride at his own pace and at the same time have peace that I was in more than capable hands in case I had a need. We also loved the fact that we didn’t need to look at a map when we came to the various trail heads along the route. Sara tailored the perfect ride for us all!
We can hardly wait ’til we can get back to Bend and ride some more! Would totally recommend Cog Wild and Sara!

Last year I did the Singletrack Sampler Half Day tour and had a wonderful time. My guide Russ was great. He planned out a route which best suited my riding preference. It included a delicious lunch which we had by the Deschutes River.
Last week I headed up to Bend without any advanced planning. I was able to get on an afternoon shuttle up to Wanoga and did the same route again. If you’re riding these trails for the first time I would suggest a guided tour to maximize your ride.

Me and a buddy went to Oregon to explore the area, tackle some mountains and do some mountain biking. Man did we make an awesome decision, not only was it one of the highlights of our trip but going with Cog Wild was great.
Our guide Alex was very knowledgeable of the trails and knew exactly where to take us. The trails we took were awesome, enough downhill to make you smile for a couple hours with just enough uphill to keep you honest.
The bike rentals were dialed in and rode great. I definitely recommend these guys to anyone who loves to mountain bike or looking for some excitement in Bend.

My husband and I recently did the 3 day Hood River Bike & Brews tour. It was an awesome experience! Our guides, Chris and Scotty, were extremely knowledgeable and professional. The accommodations exceeded our expectations with a lovely room overlooking the river, delicious breakfast, and large pool/​spa. We were a group of 5 at different riding levels. The guides kept the ride challenging and fun for everyone. Brewery tours were an added bonus. We can’t wait till our next tour with Cog Wild! Highly recommend booking with them!
