Juniper Swim & Fitness Center

Giving this a 2 star rating because too many people go here, and they need more… more machines and more yoga classes.
If you are going here to use a treadmill or bike, don’t come. Chances are slim you will be able to get on one of the 7 treadmills they have (today, 2 were broken). Then that means there aren’t any bikes to get on.
Yoga classes are packed. More people than what the fire code allows, want to go to classes. Which means there’s a person a foot away from you in every direction, and some people turned away. There are several hours during the day with no classes, they could offer more. But they don’t.
And suggestions to relieve the crowding are very much encouraged… Yes! We love suggestions! … but then will have an excuse as to not implement anything. (There’s a huge pretty much non used lobby area at the south side entrance. Put 10 treadmills there. Granted, not a great view, but I’d rather be able to get on one, then be able to look outside.)

I can only comment on their fitness classes, but I am def a fan of Juniper Fitness Center.
I typically go to the spin classes and I’ve loved all the instructors but one (I just wasn’t a fan of her particular teaching style).
In the morning in the winter you have to get there at least 20 — 25 min early or the class will be filled up. These teachers def know how to work your body and make you sweat. I only wish my favorite morning teachers taught in the evening as well.
I will say one thing I wish was different is to have separate saunas. Their sauna is coed and in the pool area. Back in Portland I went to LA Fitness and there was a sauna in both male and female locker rooms. It was more private and I felt fine just going in there with a towel. I’ve felt too uncomfortable to go into Junipers.
If you are looking for a gym with yoga, spin, HIIT, and other activities, then Juniper is where it’s at.

This is an awesome fitness center, particularly if you have kids. The rates are reasonable and they have tons of options and there is no sign up fee or obligation ever. The pools are amazing; especially for kids. They have a ton of kids swimming lessons that are really good.
The weight room/​fitness room are in great shape with lots of machines and hardly ever a wait. They have childcare for a minimal amount during most days and the kids always look really happy in there.
The only gripe I have is that some of the group fitness classes are really easy. It is hard to know which one and so you end up wasting a lot of time not getting a hard workout. The hip hop dance class on Tuesday night is awesome and a great workout. I will update as I find other tough classes.

Lots of things that make this facility a wonderful place to take yourself or your family. Relatively clean and very affordable. I’ve had good customer service at the front desk, but I’m writing to suggest that one of the receptionists on the phone switchboard needs some work. She goes by the name of Sue and she was extremely rude and curt. I was transferred twice in order to access the correct extension, but not without being cut off, despite my niceties, efficient, and polite request. The other receptionists were perfectly polite and helpful. Other than that, awesome kids care, pools, family changing rooms, and cardio classes!

Great swim lessons and nice indoor and outdoor pools with excellent lifeguards. Very family-​friendly. My kids love it here, and there’s something for all ages! Great changing rooms for families as well, and I appreciated being able to buy a reusable swim diaper for my baby at a very reasonable price when I forgot hers at home. Also love that there are reasonably priced snacks for the kids too!

Loving this place! Everything is clean, great variety of classes and the instructors are great! Every class I’ve gone to the instructor has introduced themselves and made me feel welcome (big difference from the stuffy gym we left in Portland!). The amount of activity options for the monthly price is unbeatable! Oh, and no contract to hassle over. Brilliant!

This is a great place for kids and for those that are interested in the aquatics. If you are looking for a gym, look elsewhere. This is where they dropped the ball. It is very small with limited equipment. It only takes a few people to make this very cramped and hard to work out with the small amount of equipment. This could be the great place that Bend is in need of if they would just update the gym.

This place beats any regular «gym» membership. It has multiple pools/​hot tub, yoga rooms, a gym and they host a variety of classes. I mainly go for the gym, but it is also nice to go and relax in the hot tub during an off day.
The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the gym. It has limited equipment and is relatively crammed into a tight space — granted the primary attraction for the facility is the pools, so I can understand it’s not the main focus.
Overall though I would recommend it for anyone looking to dish out a monthly membership for under $ 50. If you’re a student, or fall under any of the other discounted options, you really can’t beat the price.

Great community resource. We have both our children in swim classes here. They love it. The daycare center on site is very inexpensive and helps make doing a parent/​tot class possible for one parent.

The facility is clean, and fun for my toddler but a bit small and limited for my older child. I give it a 4 stars BUT the service (front desk staff) was rude and very unwelcoming when I came in with my two kids. Condescending definitely comes to mind immediately. I give the service 2 stars so overall, 3 stars. Service is everything people!!!

We are new to Bend, but the staff and facilities have been amazing so far. Decent price if you frequent the gym two or more times each week. Very clean, a nice schedule of fitness class. We are from a very small community, so this is much better than anything we’ve had for a gym!

Love the clean and well maintained pool. Weight and cardio room are OK, but this place is pure value when compared to ACB. ACB has serious issues lately, and Juniper outshines in every way as far as how it is being managed. Go figure… Bob (the manager) used to manage ACB when it was great.
I say Juniper is the real value in Bend, especially for athletes.

I’m bumping Juniper up a notch, because their classes are amazing!
Timing would still be an issue for a 9 to 5-​er, but otherwise I love getting to sample all of the different instructors.

I must agree this is a nice facility for a swim meet.

We attended the huge swim meet there this past weekend (8−6÷7−11) and I have to tell you it was really well organized. The people who attended didn’t always remember to use their manners, but the staff at Juniper’s were really gracious. The only thing that would have made this better was to put up more of the shading screens. There were a lot of older folks who came to see their grandchildren swim, but couldn’t really hang out to watch because it was so hot, and the shady areas were very limited.
The pool areas and pools were so clean, and well kept, that it was a phenomenal job! The pools were so inviting that it was hard not to just jump in and cool off for a moment. The changing rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the staff tried to keep up with the demands on paper towels and soap. Great job Juniper staff!

I’m waffling between four and five stars. Four stars overall as in «I’m a fan» but decided on five because of the swimming option.
And since we belong to Snap Fitness, the swimming is why we went here on Sunday, April 10^th.
I’ve been to Juniper off and on over the years. Kids took swimming lessons here a decade or more ago. Long before the remodel.
Then shortly after the remodel, I joined for a a couple of months and used the new fitness center. Nice, clean. Convenient. But the hours didn’t work for me.
Several years pass and we arrive at this past weekend.
My daughter is going to be attending the Naval Academy this summer and wanted to brush up on her swimming skills and comfort level in the water. So being the good Dad, we signed up for a 10 day pass.
The gal at the front desk was very helpful and all smiles.
I can’t really comment on pricing as this was what we were going to do come «hell or high water» but it was more than I expected. $ 88 for the two of us amounting to 20 visits total (10 each). $ 4.40 per visit? I guess that’s not bad. Could be worse. Cheaper and better for you than a movie, right?
Lockers are available for rental at 10 cents (small) and 25 cents (large) with the key you remove and clip to your suit. Locker room was what I would call typical for the environment and use. Not spotless, but not making you want to cringe either.
Showers were warm and with good water pressure. You can’t adjust temperature and you just push a button to activate them… they’ll shut off on their own. I was impressed AND dismayed at how long the water ran. For those that like a longer shower, it was great. But I saw several people leave before the water shut off and it continued to flow for sometime before the timer ran out. There is no apparent way to override this. Seemed rather wasteful to me.
Initially we went to the indoor pool but it was way too crowded to do anything but play. So we strolled over to the 50 meter pool that is covered. Aside from the chilly breezeway… brrrr…entering that arena was like going from the McDonalds Playland to a library! Quiet and serene with just a few people utilizing the lanes.
A scuba class was underway at one end of the 7^th & 8^th lanes. We observed the rules and noted the direction of swim and lane speeds (slow, medium and fast) prescribed by the markers at each end.
We checked in with the lifeguard and advised of her of our intentions and she was very positive about our goals and said the 8^th lane should work perfect for our needs. She thanked us for asking and we made our way over. Surprisingly, this is a «tented» pool and even though it was very chilly outside, it wasn’t bad walking around in just your swim suit and flip flops.
Our lane was in use by only one other person and she was very encouraging as she swam laps around us offering several compliments to my daughter as she proceeded thru each skill set.
So yes, based on this experience and our need for a community pool with decent facilities, I’d say Juniper Swim and Fitness is «As good as it gets» in Bend,

I love everything about Juniper. I’ve been going for about 10 years and it has changed a lot for the better. It’s gotten to be the nicest, most affordable gym in town with the best instructors.
Really, could you ask for more?

Went back today, the prices made me raise my rating.
Very reasonable, an entire day pass for two adult and two babies was only $ 7

After much thought, I joined this place as my exercise facility. It is nice, new and very clean. Service when I joined was kind of odd. I paid and she told me a lil about the place and then I thought we were done and we kind of chatting and then she scooted me out the door and ran off to the bathroom… generally an odd experience.
I did yoga for the first time on Sunday– I feel very out of shape as it seems that everyone else was a yoga master. Oh well, good motivation for me.

My nearly-​2yr old son has been taking swim lessons at Juniper Swim Center for the past few weeks, so I’ve had a chance to really get to know the place.
With a huge outdoor pool, as well as two indoor pools (one for children and one for adults) and a jaccuzzi, this place offers something for everyone.
I’ve spent a majority of my time at the indoor pool area; the tadpole pool, to be specific. My son loves that little 2 ft 8 in. pool with a duck slide and basketball hoop. He could spend hours there and throws a tantrum when I have to pull his pruney little butt out to go home.
Near the entrance to the indoor pools. there is a coffee/​snack bar.
Parking at the swim center can be a little tricky. If you’re going to the outdoor pool, I recommend parking in the lot off of Franklin. If you’re going to the indoor pools, the parking lot off of Hawthorne. Or even better, walk or ride a bike! The environment will thank you for it.
