Paul The Computer Guy

After all the great reviews I called and explained the issue with my laptop including the version of the current OS and was told by Micah that not only would they be able to get my PC working again for $ 65 but could also install Win10 for a total of $ 95. I took the computer into the shop where Micah disputed what he told me (I had written copious notes which I took into the shop with me). Regardless I asked them to essentially get the PC to communicate with the internet again, told them I was not in a hurry (which they took literally) and left… an entire MONTH passed with no word so I called and was transferred to Ryan who spoke to me in an incredibly curt and condescending tone! he said my IT friend that originally took a look at my PC didn’t know what he was doing :(he proceeded to tell me my computer was too old and not worth the time to fix but he would spend another day or 2 trying to get it to work. he FINALLY called me several days later and said it now communicates with the internet but he couldn’t download free virus software so it was a useless computer and that I owed them $ 65 and if my intent was to load Win10 I might as well purchase a new computer. My big gripe here is: both Micah and Ryan have a gaping lack of listening and communication skills. I worked in computers for 45 years till I retired so not ignorant when it comes to operating them and truly did NOT appreciate their lack of respect for my request and the manner in which they spoke to me!

Some days it’s hard not to feel like a dinosaur with the fast pace of technology, social media and apps. I’ve had some computer challenges that I procrastinated on for months due to the busy-​ness of season. I finally decided to try Paul the Computer Guy, because I can try to fix the issues, but I’d rather save the time at this point and have an expert handle it. They have a brick and mortar shop, but also do house calls for a $ 15 additional fee.
Paul (well, actually his name was Matt, but we’ll just call him Paul…) arrived 5 minutes early for the appointment. He got right to work on trying to fix my setup and server issues with a client. Turns out that I am not actually a technology dinosaur! The client had not provided enough information to setup everything correctly. Paul-​Matt and I chatted about best computer practices for businesses and I finally got everything backed up on the cloud (thank goodness, I had started having nightmares about losing all my data!)
Paul-​Matt felt badly about not being able to get my computer issue resolved, and did not charge me for the visit, even though he spent over a half hour working on my computers! I appreciate the professionalism and customer service Paul The Computer Guy and team provided — from the initial call, to being flexible when I had to cancel the first appointment, and beyond. I will definitely be calling Paul again for future computer and technology needs!

We’ve used Paul the Computer Guy in our business for five years. They know what the heck they are doing! We’ve had them perform computer maintenance and update our network. We’ve had them come to our business, and sometimes they’ve just answered a question over the phone for free. When we needed to upgrade our router, they gave us very specific advice over the phone and told us to order it online because it would be faster and cheaper than ordering through them. When it came in, they set it all up for us. They are honest, responsive and knowledgeable. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

We are high maintenance and Matt takes such great care of us! Very dependable. Very good at getting our equipment hooked up/​moved/​disconnected all of that! We would highly recommend him!

If I could give Paul 10 stars, it still wouldn’t be enough! Absolute lifesavers! My business laptop froze at the welcome screen and to my horror, my backup service had not been fully backup my nightly work for over a month. I was panicked. But I got my crying in check and called Paul on a whim. Micah probably spent 15 minutes troubleshooting with me over the phone (for free) before we decided it was a good idea to simply bring it in that day (Tuesday afternoon). I paid the Rush Fee of $ 50 (worth it’s weight in gold), and they said they could get back to me with some results by Thursday. THAT turn around time seemed impressive, so you can imagine my surprise when I got a call from Matt on Wednesday morning with the diagnostic! It was a complete hard drive failure, but he can a) save my data, which is equivalent to saving my business and b) replace the hard drive and re-​install the operating system and c) even properly complete the software download that I had struggled with that led to the crash — and it will be done in one day! I fully expected to have to replace the computer and had mentally budgeted that cost. Nope — it will cost less than a third of what I would pay to replace the laptop, and it will be returned to its «out of the box» quality. I know so little about computers, but both Micah and Matt were wonderful at translating the «tech talk» into something I could understand. Next time, I will skip he frustration and the tears and head straight to Paul, Matt and Micah.

These guys know what they are doing! Very helpful whether it is a quick question over the phone or a house call. Paul helped me get my home office going again after a move. He was fast and brought up some short cuts for me that are saving me valuable time. Call them with your computer needs!

I took my aging laptop to Paul The Computer Guy. It’s about 8 years old and was running so slowly that it had become essentially unusable. A couple of days later the tech returned it to me. He had increased the RAM and done a cleanup that appears to be more extensive than the Microsoft utility. I had always done my own cleanups and defrags, but it never seemed to improve the laptop’s performance very much. Whatever the tech did with my hard drive gave me more open drive space. He also repaired the key that the dog had stepped on and broken and blew all the dust and funk that had accumulated inside the casing and exhaust fan. For a small fraction of what a new laptop would cost I was able to get my own returned promptly and running way faster than new with the additional RAM. For me, the best part of keeping my old laptop (besides saving $) is that I don’t have another piece of electronic gear just sitting around the house. ALSO, PTCG didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need, which I really appreciate.

After I ran into a situation regarding a fresh install on my laptop, the guys at Paul’s were very helpful in replacing my failing drive and reinstalling, exactly to the specifications that I needed. They even fit to my ridiculous time constraints perfectly! I owe a small part of my sanity to them– I would have gone crazy trying to fix it myself.

My Mac hard drive crashed and I discovered my Time Machine had not been backing up for the last 3 months. This was a big deal as I am self-​employed and all my work is done off my Mac. Additionally, I am new in town and searched for authorized repair stores on the Apple website. I called another repair store in town and they had a backlog of 8 days. I then spoke with Mark at Paul the Computer Guy who told me to come on in and he ran a diagnostic right in front of me. The bad news was that the hard drive was fried and I would likely need to send the hard drive off for forensic data recovery of the content that had not been backed up. In the end, they installed the new hard drive, updated my OS, recovered all the info off of my Time Machine AND were able to manually get the data that wasn’t backed up (so that I didn’t have to wait for forensic data recovery). All of this and they came in under budget. I am one happy camper and will be loyal to Paul the Computer guy going forward!

Paul has been fixing our office computers for a few years. We don’t need to see him often, but when we do, he’s quick to find out what the problem really is and get it fixed so that we are back in business.

Based on our single experience as customers, we’d say they got the slogan right.
Yes, there really is a Paul. Paul Spencer. He came to our house to take a look at my desktop PC that was having a slew of problems. Well, eight problems. Making it virtually unusable. (No Unilocal.Eeek.)
When I called to set up the appointment, I also emailed an itemized list. What the problem was, when it started, what I had already done to try to correct it. Paul arrived with list in hand. He said to date few of his customers had been so organized in preparing a detailed listing.
Ha! I used to work in technology and the folks in my team did troubleshooting for complex network applications. And here I am these days, needing to have someone fix my single ol’ PC.
Embarrassing.
So I thought I’d best be prepared.
Because time is money when you’re working with a technical service like Paul the Computer Guy. Literally. And while the services are not the least expensive, you get what you pay for in top quality.
I only had to wait about a a day and a half for a home visit. (Had I been able to cart in the drive it would have been quicker.) In addition to fixing some problems on site, and taking my desktop back to the office for his team to do additional work on the drive and diagnose a failure of my external back up drive and replace it, Paul also did some troubleshooting to try to identify why my hubby’s laptop, which had been printing to our networked printer, was no longer able to do that thing.
The folks in the Computer Guy office (all computer girls actually at the time) were professional in setting up the appointment, Paul arrived when they said he would, the PC (once taken to the shop) was returned when they said it would be (and only away from home for a day) and they called to report the failed back up drive and get authorization to replace it, offering the replacement at a very fair price.
All in all, we were happy campers. Even after Paul presented us with the bill for the time spent and new back up drive.
Happy enough and trusting enough both that come fall I’m thinking I’ll have him replace the OS in this PC. There aren’t a lot of people I’d trust to do that. I trust Paul and The Computer Guy team. Stay tuned!

Like surgeons, but without the high medical bill!
iMac died… or so I thought! The experts at Paul the Computer Guy saved the day (side note: I don’t know who Paul is, but I never saw him, therefore don’t think he deserves the credit… it should be titled Susan the Mac Magician). Anywho, took my dead iMac in to be diagnosed, fearing the worse (either a costly bill to fix it or no ability to repair and and even higher bill to replace with a new Mac… they aren’t cheap, folks!). Instead, with excellent customer service and ample communication, got my trusty ol’ iMac back, good as new, at a very reasonable price.
If your computer is sick and you’d rather pay a fraction of what it costs to replace it, want to be treated fairly, then take it to Susan the Mac Magician (aka Paul the Computer Guy)!
