Estey Real Estate does not care about their tenants. If you’re a loyal client, and you need to move for whatever reasons, they shun you. Eric Hogland does not, and has not, ever responded to email messages about properties I was interested in renting or purchasing. His wife, the daughter of Candice Estey, is more interested in her kids than running the business. They are VERY slow in responding to repair requests. It took me 1.5 years to get window coverings on the slide and family room windows, all the while I was either freezing my rear off or hotter than heck. It took one year to get the microwave fixed. Not to mention about 1.5 years to get old rusted faucet fixtures throughout the house repaired due to water leaks. There were numerous repairs that needed to be done over the three years I was a tenant and very little was done. I am so disappointed and disgusted at how Eric and his wife, Jill run the business.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING ESTEY REAL ESTATE FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER ! ! ! !

Estey Real Estate does not care about their tenants. They are VERY slow in responding to repair requests. After we reported that our oven was broken, it took them a month to fix it. It was a week before they even responded. They brought in a repairman who did not know what he was doing. It took them 3 weeks to replace him with a competent repairman. I am not exaggerating when I say that it took the second repairmen 10 minutes fix the oven.
Despite not having access to our oven for a month, and wasting many hours of our time sitting around while the incompetent repairman banged on the oven, Estey declined to give us even a partial rent deduction.
Even after we paid full rent the first month (without complaining) even though contractors were still coming by to make repairs.
I strongly recommend avoiding all of their properties.

I lived in a rental Estey managed for almost 9 years. The office manager Tiffany and other regular office staff were usually very friendly. I didn’t have many issues with Estey. Although one time when my toilet seat broke, they told me that was not part of the owner’s responsibility, so I replaced it. For the first 6 – 7 years I lived on the property I fixed and replaced things on my own, including a toilet seat in another bathroom and a kitchen sink faucet with a sprayer at no charge to Estey. When it came time to move, Estey sent me a letter describing what I needed to clean. This list was by far the most extensive list I had ever seen from a property management company. It asked that you even remove and clean all of the light fixtures with soap and water and all the window sills and blinds, etc. Estey hired «Clean Image» in Benicia, Ca to clean the home after I moved. I am a fairly clean person, and I lived in my home with my 3 children for almost 9 years. I spent 9 hours cleaning my home prior to moving, my boyfriend spent 9 ½ hours, and my sister spent 8 hours cleaning the house inside and out. We cleaned pretty much everything, including the windows, window sills, blinds, garage, etc. I admit I did not clean behind the refrigerator or stove. A Clean Image came in after this. They couldn’t have had much cleaning left to do, but they had the nerve to charge me $ 475 dollars. They also wrote in their comments, «Very dirty». I’m assuming this was to justify their outrageous charge. They could at most have had only 2 hours of cleaning to do in the home. I hope Estey might consider hiring someone with half a conscience in the future, as it is obvious that «A Clean Image» is not honest whatsoever.
Overall Estey is good enough, but they are definitely not The most Renter friendly company I have ever dealt with.

They do not respond to phone calls even on the emergency line. I was double dipped on the rent and they did not even return the phone calls I had to dog them wait 7 days to finally get results. I am a new tenant but a person I know was left in the cold with a broken heater for three days. I asked to speak to an owner and was told that she would not call me back. I will never rent from them again and would not use them for property management either. I was put thru hell and not even an apology. The one request for the palm trees to be trimmed to get rid of the rodents have not been addressed either. They are planning to not take checks and that is a concern because some people may not be computer savvy (seniors, for example) or may not want to. I cannot trust them in light of the past few days. Extremely unprofessional.

We’ve used Estey on the property management side and have experienced great results with them. They have access to a great network that garnered the rental income we had hoped for. Everything is turnkey, we don’t have to worry about any aspect of the property under their watchful eyes. Highly recommend!

Estey Real Estate has performed well as the property manager of my townhouse on behalf of the owner for the last 7 – 8 years. Routine maintenance is handled without delay, rent payment is automated through their website and Eric, Tiffany, Alejandra and Candace have always been friendly, courteous and responsive. I’ve recommended friends to contact Estey for sale, purchase or leases.

Estey (Eric and Maureen) have been managing our Benicia property in our absence for several months. I can’t say enough good about them. For an incredibly fair price, they check out the house and yard once a week and arrange for services needed, all in a cheerful and patient manner. The people they’ve recommended (painter, gardener, contractor, plumbing company, etc.) have all provided first rate service promptly and consistently. It’s great to have a company that has our back when we’re far away. Estey has become our real estate BFF.

This is an honest story, and the timeline in it has been confirmed by discussions with the property owner.
I had been extremely happy with Estey as a tenant. The staff was friendly, and any time there was an issue with the property, they were quick to send out repairmen.
However, when my one year lease was getting to the end of the term, they called me, stating that, unfortunately, I would not be able to renew. They reported the owners had notified them they were going to short sale the property, so I needed to relocate. They then offered to help me find a new home. I was stunned, and asked if I could stay in the home during the short sale, since I knew that sometimes takes several months. They said they’d ask the owners and let me know.
When they didn’t get back to me after several days, I emailed the owners directly. I said I was sorry to hear they were having to short sale, and because I liked the home, I wanted to stay while they were doing that. They quickly replied that they’d gotten a totally different story from Estey, and they’d be delighted to have me stay.
Apparently, Estey had initially called the owners, telling them I’d given notice of my plans to vacate, and had offered to find them new tenants. The owners mentioned they MIGHT have to short sale the home, so they didn’t want to look for new tenants. It was at this point Estey called me, inaccurately stating the owners wanted me to vacate, that I could not renew, and offering to find me a new home.
Ultimately, the home owner fired Estey and began renting directly to me. While there remains the possibility of eventual short sale, we currently have an open ended lease, and I remain a happy tenant.
I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB. Giving me a year of good tenant support does not offset the blatant lies Estey passed on to owner and myself in the quest to drum up more business for themselves.
UPDATE: I have since relocated for work, after several months of renting directly from the home owner. The home is now up for a standard sale, with a different real estate agency.

My experiences with Estey have been simply wonderful! When I first decided to move to Benicia, I didn’t have much time to find a place. I can’t remember how I first found out about Estey, but I’m really glad I did! From the very beginning, Eric and Candi were extremely knowledgeable, professional and helpful. After I grew out of the first place I rented from them, I got their help in finding a bigger place for my growing family. Anytime I call or email them, I always get prompt responses. Estey really fits in with the small town feel of Benicia, which is exactly why I moved here in the first place. I’ve dealt with plenty of property management places before, and there just aren’t many places around like this.

I first have to say that they are very polite on the phone, but when a property comes available, they take several applications and application fees and choose the better one, even if you explain your situation, they tell you everyone is in the same situation, so they make bank on just listing the property. I received an email from the property management about a property becoming available before it was listed, it put my app in through their night slot, they never returned my calls, after several calls to them, we were able to view the property, but was told there was an app already on the house, The property manager that showed it to us was very short with us and making us feel rushed through the house, like we were wasting her time she kept telling us there was already an app on the house, she wouldn’t accept the credit report that was already ran a few days ago, but said I could to pay another fee (which they charge more than anyone else) to see if mine was more qualified. these people make you feel very beneath them. I guess when the market is hot they can do and treat you anyway they want.

I am completely satisfied with the service I have received from Estey Realty from the moment I walked into their office looking for a rental home. The day I moved into a charming «oldie but goodie» in the historic part of Benicia, I was asked to make a list of what I felt needed to be fixed or upgraded. Within a week, all of my concerns were addressed. In addition, the backyard went from weeds to looking «beautiful» as one young boy proclaimed loudly as he walked down the alley past the house.
I thank Candi and her staff for a warm welcome to Benicia and for their professionalism and prompt service.

Eric is all about business and is exactly who you want if you’re needing someone to rent and manage your property. It’s nice to know someone will look after my interests. When it comes to management it’s all about the details, those little ones that can cause more pain and grief than you want to deal with.

I love Estey Real Estate. They helped me locate my first investment property in Benicia. They know the market, helped locate a property, found excellent tenants and managed it until it was sold.
