Came here with a friend before heading to a movie. Didn’t care for the food. The menu was extensive but to the point it was difficult to figure out what to eat. The rolls were more expensive than I thought they should’ve been. They sounded great on paper, but in execution were disappointing. There was so much crunch in the spicy tuna special roll(not real name) I ordered I started deconstructing the roll and pulling it out. All of the rolls we ordered were constructed so elaborately they were hard to eat. Very hard to fit a whole piece in your mouth. And we are both regular sushi eaters. We aren’t just faint of heart in our sushi eating determination.

We’ve been going to this restaurant for several years now and it was perfect back then, though the prices a bit higher than other local Japanese restaurants but the quality was excellent. But last couple of times we ordered to go stuff and it wasn’t that exceptional, though we still like it more than other places. So we’ll give it a try one more time and if the food is not satisfying our needs we’ll look for something better in quality and price wise.

I rarely give such bad ratings to local establishments, but this was just such a fail in so many ways. First of all, I want to say. shame on you Unilocalers who came her and lied about this place. We went with such high hopes, depending on Unilocal to guide us to a place that would satisfy our Japanese food craving, especially since we are new to the area. Shame on you!(Especially the guy who said Tako has the«best sushi on the entire planet.» That’s insulting to literally every other Japanese restaurant on the planet.) This was our experience at Tako: We originally went because we wanted soba noodles, but they do NOT have that here. This is probably the first Japanese restaurant that we’ve been to that didn’t have the staple dish on their menu, but we brushed if off and ordered other things(1 «Dinner Box A» and 2 «special» rolls). 1. Everything was overpriced, for what was being served. Just one quick skimming of the menu, and you can tell there isn’t really anything spectacular, but the prices suggest that there may be. We’re from New York and I’ve grown up eating at countless restaurants all over the city since I was a child, so when I say something is overpriced, I’m not joking. BUT we were hungry and didn’t want to bother looking for another place to eat, so we decided to just give it a shot. 2. The wait for the food was absolutely ridiculous. We went hungry, then sat there as the sushi«chefs» took their time, moving slower than I’ve ever seen any chefs move, and looking like they had no care in the world, whether their customers were going hungry or not. I think it took about 30 – 45 minutes for us to actually get our food, once we ordered. We kept glancing over at the chefs to hint that we’d really like to eat soon, but it didn’t seem to bother them at all. Maybe they take extra long so that you’re starving by the time you get your food and just scarf it down without worrying about the taste. 3. The serving sizes for the prices are just stupid. If the quality of the fish was outstanding, I wouldn’t even have minded. It wasn’t. The raw salmon inside the roll should have been a bright orange, but it was more like a dull orange, almost pastel-colored. The dinner box was $ 25, but it had more of a variety of foods and was the most reasonably-priced thing we ordered. 4. The taste profiles were just. off. I am not an food expert, and I won’t pretend to be some sort of professional taste tester. But I’ve had GOOD Japanese food many times in my life, and the flavors were just not right. First of all, the miso soup that we were given at the beginning of the meal was overly salty and tasted like MSG. I don’t use any MSG in any of my food, so I’m fairly sensitive to it, and even the hubs said off the bat that the soup was packed with MSG. Secondly, the rolls were just odd. The sauces were weird, there was asparagus in a roll that overpowered the rest of the flavors, and there was one roll that was fried for so long that the entire roll was hot and the rice inside was like porridge. Just. no. 5. Everything so far already told me and the hubs that we would never return to this establishment, ever again. But the kicker? One of the servers actually pulled up a tub of water with bubbling cleaning solution in it and started washing a rag in it, RIGHTONTHESUSHIBAR. There were two plates ready to be served, waiting to be taken to the customers, on top of the, and just under it(where the plates and utensils are set for customers to EAT) was the splashing tub of cleaning solution. I get that it’s important to keep a restaurant clean, but who wants to risk having drops of whatever was in that tub mixed into their dish, especially since she couldn’t even rinse said rag without thick rubber gloves on? If you like bad sushi, a terribly long wait time and don’t mind having some windex or bleach splashed onto your food, Tako is the place for you. We’ll be searching for another Japanese spot instead.

Very authentic sushi! Loved spicy crab rolls… the best that I’ve ever eaten. Service by Vicky was over the top, really made me feel comfortable. BYOB format is great if your budget conscious.

I like this place and think the quality of the food is good but the three time so have been here the service has been horrible. Last night it took them 15 minutes to get us three diet cokes. I like the fact that it is BYOB and they have an extensive menu. Love the fruit punch roll and the kabuki roll.

I have no complaints about the food, which was really good. My friend and I had the lobster roll, gyoza, chicken tempura and an assortment of simple sushi pieces. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. She seemed to love how her food was plated, taking pictures and all that. While the food is delicious, the dining experience wasn’t that good. First, the place is very loud, making it difficult to hear your companion. We’re here to relax, not to put effort into hearing each other. The booth seats are flimsy. If the person behind you leans back, you’re pushed forward, so if you’re the courteous sort you now have to pay attention to other people so as not to bother them. What they need most is an additional server. On a Friday night, to only have two wait staff has a very negative effect on both the customer and staff. Not only is the service slow, the wait staff just becomes robotic and inattentive, never checking back on you because they don’t have time or too tired to care. The wait staff would make better tips if they had another person to make everyone’s job more pleasant. From some of the other reviews, I’d say this wasnt just an isolated off night of service but a flaw in their service delivery. Don’t know if I’d come back when my friend wants to get sushi. Probably try someplace else that has better, or at least faster, service.

The black pepper tuna appetizer was quite good but everything went downhill after that. It took a long time to place our order(even though they only had two tables) and the sushi was underwhelming. It did come out quickly though. The rice was loose(fell apart when you picked it up) and the rolls looked nothing like the photos in the menu(normally I run from places that have food photos.) The rolls were fairly plain as well and the sauces lacked much flavor. The fish itself was fresh which gets points. The miso soup looked good but lacked the umami flavor you expect. Clean restaurant but no plans to go back.

This place for the Location is frigging awesome. Don’t have to travel to the city to Mori’s and waste time parking. The quality of sushi is superb. The owner hand picks it and you can tell the difference. I have to say his Salmon is so buttery and good it’s hard to duplicate. The Yellow Tail Jalapeño is in a League of Its Own!!! Wasabi Roll +, Avocado Salad ++++, Salmon Sashimi Roll just to get a few good ones rolling. Bob M. From Mahwah, NJ is an Idiot. Your a Chronic Complainer and annoying, just look at all of your reviews. CVS really. Thanks Bob, You didn’t order Sushi. But I’m glad you won’t be back!!! One less person in line in front of our Crew… Oh. Like Bob said, you may wait a bit on the weekends because they get crowded, because everyone enjoys it!!! except Bob M. From Mahwah, because he’s a chronic complainer and pompous ass… Hey Bob. Bring someone fun with you and the time flys bye waiting for the sushi… or just sit there and throw a fit and annoy everyone around you…114 raving reviews and you’re the one dope.

Very good sushi spot, tucked away in a small strip mall. Gyoza and the Spider roll were top notch. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Staff was very friendly. Fyi, this is a byob place.

One of the best Japanese places around. Every time I was in Philly area on business I made it a point to stop by. The chicken and broccoli are perfect! If staying at an area hotel I highly recommend you try this place.

Of all the sushi joints we’ve ever eaten in, which is like a bajillion of them, we always come back to Tako in Bensalem, PA. Their freshness, quality, flavors, and taste are like no others whether in the burbs or Philly. The appetizers, from their Kani and seaweed salad to their spicy fish cake(an awesome take on a sushi-like tartare), are enough to get you full but save room for the specialty rolls. Pictured here from left to right are the Jay Roll, Musashi Sashimi Roll, and our favorite, the Spicy Salmon Sashimi Roll. These rolls just melt in your mouth and with their mix of sauces on top, it’s a like a hardcore get drunk and invite some hookers over for some karaōke party in your mouth! 5 Garys every single time we are there. If you need a romantic atmosphere or some mood lighting ambiance, this is not your place. But if you want the best sushi in the world, come to Tako!

This is the best sushi place I have ever been too believe it or not. It’s in a strip mall so you wouldn’t think… But it is! The yellowtail jalapeño and Lemongrass Soup are always a must. As well as the volcano roll, John junior roll, rock and rock and sweat heart roll!

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Tako may have the best sushi on the entire planet. My co-worker from Japan(who also lived in China for 10 years) absolutely raves about this place. First, appetizers: get the yellowtail jalapeño. You’re welcome. LOL. The cucumber jalapeño sauce they use is unlike anything I’ve ever had, be it NY, Vegas, LA, etc. Second, the specialty rolls are amazing. A gem that is no longer on the menu, but you can still order, is the Over Rainbow roll. I get that with a Jay roll, then a third roll, be it a Fruit Punch or whatever. The private rooms are awesome as well, though usually reservation is required. The prices are fair, considering this is the best quality of sushi you’ll ever have. Absolutely awesome!

Excellent fresh sushi. We love the specialty rolls. Especially the salmon sashimi roll — wow! The check can really add up here because the rolls are pricey. The service is not the friendliest but the sushi is worth it.

I think I have to stop assuming that restaurants in a strip mall cannot be good. Tako is in a strip mall on Galloway Road in Bensalem. They have a sizable sushi menu and also hibachi dinners. My husband and I both got a dinner box that had the sushi of our choice(very fresh), teriyaki beef, shrimp, sashimi, salad, rice and soup. Plenty of tasty food with a great presentation and excellent service. The price per dinner is reasonable at $ 24.
