Excellent south indian restaurant. Ask the owner and order that food rather than the usual north indian. Gr8=rava black pepper masala dosa. Also very good = the sunday buffet, when you can try the idlis, the kheer and assorted other stuff that you may like even if you havent tried south indian food before. They also have some staple north indian food at the buffet — chicken tandoori et al. That part of the buffet is good/on par with most other restaurants. EDIT: I think it closed down… :(I went there recently and there was the place was closed, and sign was gone. Feel really bad. The food was really good, and the owner paid personal attention to the food and seemed to be a great guy(the guy the previous poster refers to was probably the owner himself). I hope he is able to find a better place soon.

I don’t know if it is indeed gone but God, I hope not. I first came here when my roommate was looking for an Indian restaurant close to Parx. I was honestly not expecting much, the place was huge but very few people were there. I’m a person who doesn’t really care for a fancy looking place(unless it’s some special day) because as long as the food is delicious, i will come again and again and again. Another thing I don’t care much about, service. I never remark on it. But here I have to because it was exceptional. The server was extremely kind, taking his time, explaining each dish, making sure that none of the dishes were too spicy. I had a camera and asked the waiter to take a picture of us. He adjusted my camera, then got on HISKNEES to take the picture so he could get the angle right. HIS F-ING KNEES! My own parents wouldn’t do that for me. And now to the food, which is superb. I usually get the chicken makhani and my girlfriend usually gets the chicken chettinad. You can taste the variety of spices. We never deviate because it’s perfection. Would you say, «Mmm, I’m sick of waking next to Kim Kardashian.» Yea, neither does Kris Humphries.(Low, I know) If it indeed is gone, I am saddened to bid goodbye to one of the things I liked about Philly.

Amazing and cheap. The prices are great, and they are amazing with kids. Though be warned the chairs are not amazing. but for great authentic and delicious Indian food… this is the place!

I am so happy I came across these reviews! My friend and I decided to go out for veggie Indian food last weekend and we found Thulasi was a great place, and after weeks of craving dosas, I’ve finally found satisfaction. We shared the Mysore Masala Dosa, Aloo Mutter, Veggie Samosas and my beloved Galub Jamun. Every morsel was packed with flavor. The waiter was kind enough to ask if we could handle the spice(of course we can!) and they didn’t hold back. So thankful for that! The restaurant is really big, I kinda wish it was a little more intimate of a space b/c when I looked in the window before entering I was wary b/c there were not a lot of people in there. If you find yourself in the same situation, just go in. You won’t be upset!

I love Indian food, I like my Indian food authentic and spicy(i.e. not dumbed down for the typical American palate) I’ve been to many Indian restaurants around Philadelphia, in New York City and elsewhere in the United States and for me, the best is Thulasi. The first time I came here was for the lunch buffet. Although the restaurant specializes in South Indian cuisine(not typical for Indian restaurants around Philly), the buffet has a nice selection of southern and northern Indian dishes(with some spice!) and offers a mix of veg and non-veg options. For us though, it is the Southern Indian specialties here that caught our attention. The soups — Sambhar and Rasam — delicious, complex flavors that are perfect with the Idli. If they aren’t serving the buffet, my favorite to order is the Thulasi Special Madras Vegetarian Thali. This is a good way to sample the best of South Indian cuisine. Although you can be sure to sample a Dal, Poriyal, Kara Kuzhambu, they dishes that appear in the Thali have been different each time I’ve visited. I’m convinced– in the Philadelphia area, it doesn’t get any better than this. If you love authentic Indian cuisine, you must visit Thulasi! Also need to mention — the service here is excellent and its byob as well! I will return again and again and again and again…

Thulasi was wonderful. I was thrilled to find the waiter was extremely knowledgable about the ingredients… not only did he know what vegan meant(believe it or not, that’s a rare trait in most restaurants from my experience), but he was able to point me in the direction of all the dishes I could eat, or could be made special without cream, ghee, yogurt, etc. Wonderful food, too.

I am very particular about Indian food, and especially about buffets. I only know of two or three that I would gladly eat at in the world and now four. Heck, I’m particular about everything in my life, but that’s beside the point. This place is about a forty minute drive for me, but I will say that it was well worth it. I went here because of the glowing reviews on Unilocal, and believe me they are true! Very rarely do I end up going to a place that has some food I haven’t tried before, but this place manged to do that.
My boyfriend and I went for the lunch buffet on Saturday. We arrived at 12:00 when they open and the place was empty. They were still putting the finishing touches on the buffet, but the waiter was nice and let us go ahead anyway. He also answered my questions abouty some of the food items. We usually go to Aman’s in Norristown, which is also out of our way, for Indian food. The selection here wasn’t as good as Aman’s but the flavor of the food definitely met it’s level, and even topped it with some particular dishes and the heat level. The chutney’s were particularly good, especially the tomato one. I liked that they had tiny little condiment dishes for you to put the sauces and chutney’s in so you can dip stuff in them and they don’t go all over your plate. That’s really what Aman’s is missing. This place specializes in South Indian food, and it was my first time to try coconut chutney. It was good stuff. Another bonus of this place is that you can get a fresh made masala dosa with the buffet. I didn’t realize this until the waiter asked if we wanted one. Good stuff. The outside texture is light and crisp with smooth potatoes and spices inside, and it’s made fresh to order! Yum! The paneer with mushrooms was some of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken biriyani was very flavorful and tasted a lot like kabsah(Saudi Arabian rice and chicken). The rasam was delicious and so were the vadai. The highlight of the experience was surprisingly the dessert. I thought I never really liked Indian dessert, as I’ve tried it at other places and disliked the texture, or it was too sweet for me. The only dish I’ve liked in the past was gajar halwa(sweet carrot dessert). I thought I hated those milk balls, but here they are delicious! They are not too sweet and have a strong cinnamon flavor. The best thing was something made of farina, mango, and sugar. It was amazing! Sorry, I can’t remember what it was called. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and the texture was chewy. Pure perfection. I would go back just for that. I usually don’t even like farina! Oh, and one of the best things is that the food on the buffet actually had a bit of spice to it. Usually buffet items are bland at Indian places, as other reviewers have mentioned to not«offend» the western palette. I eat my food way spicier than even that, but I’m a weirdo and for a buffet, I can’t complain. So, I was quite pleased immediately with that. I will have to come back for dinner and try to order my food very spicy and see how that goes. I have yet to find a place in the US that can actually make it too spicy and only one that sometimes makes it spicy enough. Based the previous reviews of this place, maybe they can do it…

Please go to Thulasi! I love a Indian Buffet that is not afraid of spice or «offending the American palate» as one restaurant owner put it to me years ago(rolling eyes). You can’t get a better buffet in the area and I’ve been to them all. I wish Thulasi was on the main drag for all to see so I don’t have to worry about it closing from lack of exposure. Babu, the owner, greeted me the first time I came in and remembered my name when I came back. Take out is just as delicious. Saag Paneer, Chicken Curry, Biryani, Lamb Curry, soup and dosas all bangin! I went in for lunch, had a great conversation with a family and learned about traditional Indian wedding jewelry. I love this place. It’s big enough for a party too! Hmmm I think I just gave myself an idea.

Absolutely delicious Indian food! I live in the city, but the family is in the suburbs and I try to encourage them to try more exotic restaurants than the typical suburban fare. My mom and I went here for dinner, and both loved it. We shared the bread basket, and then she got one of the lentil dishes and I got one of the paneer dishes. I’m a sucker for Indian cottage cheese. We also shared the galub jamun, because I wanted my mom to try it. Everything was fantastic and we had leftover to take home. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone hanging out in Bucks County.

We went there last night after discovering mirch masala was closed on Tuesday. Both of the dishes we had were great(i had shrimp vindaloo and my gf had an eggplants curry that were told was specific to a particular region of south India. Our fav dish of the night was the spectacular cilantro tamarind soup(rasam). The idli was also awesome. To top it off, the gentleman who served us was super friendly, and was able to answer any of our questions about the food, while also giving us a fun history lesson. We’ll def be back!

We ended up going to Thulasi after attempting to eat at Indian Garden in Yardley… but not making reservations. We’d been there before and loved it… but I am really happy we didn’t bother to wait there. Admittedly, this place doesn’t even approach fancy. But oh my god, our food was… phenomenal. At first, the waiter did not believe we wanted our food extra hot.(Oh! The perils of being a couple of white kids!) Once we got our food, he seemed concerned that we were only being polite and it was far too spicy for us. Allow me to clarify: it was perfect. We ordered the bread basket(Onion Kulcha, Roti and Garlic Naan), Paneer Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobi Masala. Recommend is not a strong enough word. We’re probably going to be there enough to be recognized. Well. That’s the plan.
