Bartavelle is so. good. I got their famous avocado toast, which comes with a soft-boiled sea salt egg on the side. I was really suspicious of their avocado toast; It’s like $ 15, and I was expecting it to be overrated. It was not. Their ACME bread is soft and fresh, and they give you what seems to be an entire avocado across your two pieces of bread. Plus, the avocado is spiced well with sea salt, red pepper flakes, lemon, and olive oil. It really is a delicious dish. The soft-boiled egg on the side is just the cherry on top. I also got their Café Mocha. It wasn’t anything to write home about. It costs about $ 5, but was pretty standard and typical. I’ve had better coffees at other places; it wasn’t bad by any means, but I doubt I would order it again. All in all, the only drawbacks with this place are that it’s tiny. If you come on the weekends, it’s definitely going to be crowded and you probably won’t have anywhere to sit. But, if you’re a lover of good avocado toast, you’ll definitely find this trek to be worthwhile.

I have been seeing a lot of posts about this place and I was super excited to try it out! Coffee and avocado toast are the most hipster-est thing ever and I love it(LOL I know). I love the vibe and atmosphere here because it’s pretty chill. It’s nice place for I came here at around 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and it was decently crowded. The seating is first come first serve so do try to snag a table before ordering if you’re here with friends or family! I think this place is becoming quite popular and I can see why. I came here with a friend and we just got a latte, a cappuccino, and an order of the avocado toast. The staff here were very friendly and polite, explaining certain things on the menu for me. They were also very chill and fun to talk to. Oh! Get the olive oil egg with the avocado toast and thank me later(hehe). The food here is standard, but delicious! The coffee, to me, is only average(I am no coffee snob, but I’ve had the privileged to try a lot of coffee shops in SF with my coffee friend, haha). It’s good but I’ve definitely had better. It may be because they’re a smaller establishment, and it’s totally okay! This cozy little place and the people totally makes up for it. Overall, this is a great place for a cup of coffee and a good read. A lovely place to catch up with a friend over a tasty avocado toast. Definitely recommend this place because I can see this place being crowded and popular very soon.

This little gem is sandwiched between Acme bread and Kermit Lynch wines, and serves the best of both worlds. Their menu looks amazing, and the first time I arrived I couldn’t wait to try their ricotta toast with kumquats and pomegranate seeds. Their menu said that they serve toast all day, so we arrived at 4:02pm. Apparently though, at 4:00pm they stop serving the toast I wanted to try(only the avocado toast is available to order). They wouldn’t make an exception, so we left and came back the following day at 2pm. The day wait was well worth it, and my boyfriend and I both thoroughly enjoyed the ricotta and avocado toast. What we didn’t enjoy though were the less than pleasant/helpful guys behind the counter two days in a row. The first day they snatched the menu from us and informed us a new one went into effect at 4pm, and the second day it took five minutes on a slow day for them to even acknowledge that we were standing there ready to order and was not friendly in the least bit. I would give them five stars for the food, but their customer service is not the greatest, and I just can’t over look a less than welcome visit two days in a row. Also important to note that the prices have gone up, and the menu they have online is not correct. Most of the seating is outdoors, and it can be very chilly, so bring a jacket.

This is an adorable café next to Acme bread which means all the bread they serve here is from Acme. YESPLEASE! The downside is that there is minimal indoor seating, just a bench for you to sit while you wait for your to go order or coffee. The outdoor seating is great except for when it’s the winter in the Bay Area and pretty damn chilly out. I went with a friend who highly recommended this place for the Avocado Toast which she ordered with a soft boiled egg. I didn’t try the toast because I don’t believe in paying more than 2 buck for avocado on toast. C’mon folks! I’m sure the toast was good, it was Acme bread and it comes with a generous spread of avocado and a few pickled vegetables on the side. Based on her word, it’s AMAZING. I ordered the Persian Breakfast. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it was delicious. It’s actually Acme pizza bianca bread, served on the side with a semi deconstructed salad — lebneh(a slightly salty, greek-like, yogurt cheese), cucumber, feta, herbs, za’tar(a blend of sesame seeds, herbs and salt), pickled vegetables and fresh jam. I loved the mixture of textures and that sinfully good cheese. Spread a little of everything on the pizza bread and that’s one damn good bite.

When you think«Berkeley» you might also think«liberal, granola, earth-focused, educated, friendly, hipsters». Congratulations! You’ve just described Bartavelle. Not that any of that should be synonymous with«pretentious» or «trendy». Because it isn’t.(Okay maybe just a liiiiiittle trendy.) But here’s what matters: the coffee. And here’s the verdict: it’s delicious. So if you’re the kind of person who might be put off by the slew of adjectives above, then at least you know you can focus on the brew and brew alone. Perhaps another piece of advice: don’t expect a Venti or Trenta or Bucketfullofcrapcoffee sizes. You get one size. And it’s about enough to hold two shots of espresso and perhaps a little milk. That’s it. So if you’re the«quantity over quality» type, perhaps you should consider pre-gaming before hitting up Bartavelle. Also, patience. Just, patience. Be all that is patience. This shop is about the size of one of their coffee cups. So just don’t expect the kind of assembly-line speed that you’ve probably come to expect elsewhere. They have enough space for one dude to make the coffee. One. So… patience. After all that, however. You will be sure to leave with a cup full of truly delicious, sweet, fragrant coffee. And that, from one coffee addict to another, is truly worth it.

Bartavelle is a rather small, but cozy spot with some serious rustic flair. Warm wooden interior décor is a welcome sight here, especially with the cold mornings we’ve been having lately(although the outdoor patio area offers some seating as well, charmingly decorated with some oversized colored Christmas lights). The pastry cabinet was oddly small to me, at least for a coffee place, until I remembered that Acme was right next door, lol. I only had the pleasure of having the Sightglass coffee served here,(my americano was surprisingly on the more acidic side. not in a bad way though!) but the care with which each plate of avocado toast was prepared and artfully plated made me dearly wish I didn’t already have early lunch plans. =[ Not to worry, I will definitely be back soon for both the food… and maybe some wine. lol

If you’re looking to dine with simplicity at a cute hipster establishment, Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar might just be the place for you. Where the famous Café Fanny once stood, now brings crowds of avocado toast fanatics and lovers of the trendy charcuterie boards. The general vibe and décor is still very reminiscent of Café Fanny but you’ll find even more of a bustling crowd proudly carrying out their famous avocado, prosciutto, and ricotta toasts, and let’s not forget the coffees. Despite how small the café is, the location still remains genius seeing that it sits directly next to Acme. Of course, Acme bread is used extensively throughout Bartavelle’s menu items. The toasts along with a perfectly steamed latte, tea, or various other espresso beverages is certainly a great breakfast pick. My favorite still remains to be the avocado toast, consisting of two slices of Acme’s pan au levain bread, a generous slather of creamy avocados, topped with marash pepper, and a bit of sea salt and olive oil. Devine! For lunch, the sandwiches, salads, daily soups, or the speciality boards are ace. I myself have yet to try one of their boards but they do look rather enticing… If you’re hoping to dine in, my successes with finding a suitable table have been when I have arrived in the mornings, of course not all menu items are available but, pick and choose! Parking is also much more accessible in the mornings as well, both Bartavelle and Acme have designated private parking lots(one sits in the front, the other in back) but can fill up fast. In terms of cost, it’s generally more on the pricy side but an occasional visit never hurts. Definitely worth a visit to experience some Berkeley culture and satisfying eats!

Hipster, cute, and Instagram worthy? Absolutely! After hearing about Bartavelle for a while, I finally got the chance to try it! The location may be hard to find since its tucked in the corner right next to Acme bread. I got the avocado toast which was on of course, Acme bread. I also added an olive oil sea salt egg on the side. Indeed as promised they do not skimp on the avocado, as the toast was luxuriously slathered with creamy avocado. They also The egg was absolutely perfectly soft boiled, neither too runny or overly cooked. Could I make this at home? Probably. However, even though everything was simple it tasted delicious and of great quality. I want to come back to try their other detectable sounding toasts such as prosciutto. The location is very small and service may be a little slow depending on the time of day you go. This place is a tad pricey as the avocado toast itself was $ 6.50. But this cute shop is both yummy and most certainly instagram worthy!

This place is heaven for a hipster food Instagram post, but more importantly really tasty too! Avocado toast on Acme bread was great. Perfectly seasoned with sea salt and red pepper flakes, and they don’t skimp on the avocado. I really loved the olive oil egg too because of the soft boil(I’m obsessed with egg yolk) The prosciutto toast was good, but since the prosciutto was the only thing on the bread, I kind of felt like it was missing something. I think some tomato or some kind of greens would’ve made it better, but it was a minor thing. I’d recommend getting the prosciutto toast on top of the avocado toast if you really want it. A note for pro food Instagrammers: They run out of the hipster-looking wood boards and replace them with regular plates when they get busy, so if you want to snap a shot of your food on the boards, go early.

I came here for brunch the other day with some friends and we all ordered the avocado toast with an olive oil egg on the side. It was soooo good — they definitely don’t skimp on the avocado here and the egg was cooked to a perfect soft boil! I must say they put a little too much salt on mine, but other than that the food was definitely five stars. The place itself is pretty small, and I can imagine it getting very crowded on the weekends, but I can’t wait to come back and try more things on their menu!

After seeing so many pictures of this place on Instagram, I decided to take my friend here for her birthday. DONOT come here after 4pm. The selections become extremely limited, so we ended up just getting the avocado toast and Mt. Tam cheese with baguette and a latte. The toasts were great and affordable and the latte art was a nice touch. I would try to come back here again in the morning to try out their eggs next time and experience the full menu. Things to keep in mind is that venue is extremely small with just a tiny bar area inside and a few tables outside. The tables outside have pretty poor lighting once it gets a bit darker though, but overall it was a decent experience.

Love, love, love bartavelle — by far one of my favorite breakfast/brunch place in east bay! It’s a small, hip coffee-shop-esque place that has a greaat vibe. Although the line may be a little long sometimes, the food makes it all worth it. The avocado toast on acme bread and sea salt eggs are classic breakfast options that can’t go wrong! Most people just order that, but if you want to splurge a little more, I personally like to also order their prosciutto toasts and the trio of crostini options. For drinks, they also have a great selection of both coffee and wine to start off your day! Overall, it’s a great place for friends to catch up on weekends. Parking is available there, and its right next to Acme bread! The only downside is that there’s very limited seating and is all outdoors, so it can get a little chilly in the winter. But otherwise, I’ve been going here for years — and I’m still not sick of it!

This place always has a line! Its also crammed tight inside, so makes sense. Wanted to try the toast for awhile cause the pics look so good and it was just fine. Yes, the bread is good, but this is something I could make at home… I asked to do half avocado and half proscuitto and was happy that they could make that request for me. I liked the sea salt on the avocado with the chile flakes. If I had just ordered one kind I would have gotten sick of it quite fast. People tend to leave fairly quickly so we could find a seat by the time we finished ordering our food. Unfortunately, I didn’t try the coffee, but would come back to try it. Overall, I probably wouldn’t order the food again, but not because it was bad, just very simple and easy. Still good.

Decided to go here for brunch, because who doesn’t like to go to a place that serves their food on Acme bread. We went here on a Saturday morning, waited in line for 10 minutes and ordered the Persian breakfast(feta cheese, jam, and greens) with the avocado toast and boiled eggs. You order at the register, get a number and they will bring it to you. There are no seatings inside, and there are not that many seatings outside, so I assume it sometimes gets hard to find a table. This place is so vibrant, and because of this(plus the Acme bread) I’m giving them a 3 star. But, honestly that’s it. I mean I don’t quite understand what the hype is about. To me paying $ 9.50 for two slices of avocado toast and 2 boiled eggs just doesn’t make sense. Yes it’s tasty, but that has nothing to with this place. Avocados usually taste pretty good on their own and they specially taste great when you add salt, pepper, and lime juice to them. This place is not doing any magic. So I don’t think they REALLY deserve the hype that they are getting. I mean let’s give some credit to the awesome avocados for being out their, in addition to the killer Acme breads. I also ordered their coffee. It was just meh. I mean expected better quality coffee from this place, and the coffee was OK, I don’t think my coffee was freshly brewed, and it tasted way too sour.

Yum! This place will satisfy all your hipster desires, from the little cutting board they serve their food on to the wooden tables. It’s also right next to Acme bread, so make sure to stop by there and stock up on crunchy Italian baguettes and sweet rustic rolls. Parking is pretty cramped here, but when I arrived at 11AM, there weren’t too many people, although the line for Acme was out the door. We ordered the avocado toast with sea salt egg, iced tea, and a sandwich. There’s just something about seeing an entire avocado smeared over a piece of toast that really excites me. The eggs are perfectly cooked, with the yolks slightly runny but not so much that it drips. The bread was a little on the salty side; it might have tasted better with just avocado. I thought they would give me sweet iced tea because that’s what you usually get at American establishments, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fragrant, non-sugary tea. The sandwich was probably the best part. The crispiness of the bread with the fresh vegetables and sharp cheese was a winning a combination. Everything we ordered came up to $ 35, which is kind of pricy. I might try the avocado bread at home on my own, but the food here is definitely quality!

Avocado toast with an anchovy egg… OMG. We decided to power up on this prior to a race. I was not disappointed whatsoever. The acme bread matched with heaping amounts of avocado topped with oil, lemon, and seasoning was served with a boiled egg and anchovy. Every single component was absolutely necessary to this dish. Perfection… so perfect that I have been making it at home when I can’t head out here. Doesn’t taste the same but it’ll have to do. The prices are also costly… but I have come to the fact that it’s worth it. Haha. They also have other items and pastries which I haven’t quite veered to as of yet. Why the minus one star? The guy forgot my coffee and was a little rude/awkward about it. Otherwise, I love this place!

Avocado toast and coffee :9 what’s not to like?! I came with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and there was a small line(moved pretty fast though). The person who took my order was cordial and friendly, which is always a big plus. The pictures are a bit deceiving as it looks like two orders of avocado toast. However it’s just that the Acme toast is cut in half(so it’s actually one order). They messed up our order though, became we asked for half avocado and half prosciutto. They gave us half avocado and half prosciutto with avocado on the other half. I don’t mind, cz as she said«it tastes better that way ;)» Acme bread was perfectly toasted, which is another plus. The egg, drizzled with olive oil, was demolished in two seconds lol. Definitely wanna come again to try their other items! Very cute place. Tip 1) they don’t offer non fat milk, but they do have low fat milk for lattes. Tip 2) they share a bathroom with the wine store next door.

Old location of Café Fanny! Exact same lay out and vibe, meaning limited outdoor seating, long Acme Bread line next door, no bathroom, etc. I got the avocado toast for $ 6.75. DELICIOUS. Pain au levain bread, lots of generously spread avocado, olive oil, sea salt, and marash pepper(adds a subtle spicy kick). I was sad when I finished eating it. I came for breakfast, so I couldn’t try any of their lunch boards, salads, or sandwiches. But their avocado toast it the most popular item, so I’m golden. Would I come back? Yes, for a light meal or brief snack. This isn’t a place you’ll hang out for hours with friends– the street corner location isn’t conducive to that. But if I was in the area and wanted a quick catch up with friends, I’d come here.

When you think Berkeley, think Bartaville. Wine along with coffee, a choice between avocado or ricotta toast, and the unsurprising long line irrespective of the time and day– features characteristic of good coffee places in Berkeley. Bartaville makes coffee dates into a super hipster, super cute celebration. I got a Café au lait and finally the courage to take on the ricotta cheese toast. This is a thick slice of toast from Acme bakery next door with a one-inch think spread of ricotta cheese and apricot jam. When persimmons are available, they have a persimmon jam they use instead which sounds really fun. This is definitely something to be shared with at least one other person, and even then I would think it’s really filling! I could only take two bites, but it was definitely very yummy and different! The thick bread was excellent with the equally thick but creamy ricotta cheese. As for seating, there’s only one table inside close to an outlet but four tables out in the patio. Most people seem to just grab their coffee and go or sit outside. I somehow usurped the inside table as I prepared for a long catch-up session with my friend on a Friday afternoon. Not the place to get studying done, but perhaps do some leisure reading. Be sure to check out the next door large department where they have a wide selection of wines and of course, the tiny door leading you to Acme bread bakery(hard to miss with the constant five-person line outside the door). Ooh, and they also have a PRIVATE parking lot — small one right outside, slightly bigger one in the back. Save those quarters from street parking.

Stopped here a couple of times while having my clutch replaced nearby( ). I wanted to like it more than I did. The two items I tried had good ingredients, but had unbalanced flavors. While the Avocado Toast($ 6.50) had a generous amount of avocado on thick slices of Acme bread(maybe a whole avocado per serving? ) and I liked the marash peppers, there was way too much lemon juice which seemed like it was just squeezed on top with the olive oil. The second visit I had the Savory Porridge($ 5). You can choose ghee & sea salt or sesame oil & gomasio(a furikake type seasoning) and I got the later combo and added an egg(+$ 2.50 ). The soft-boiled egg comes chilled and I again liked the marash pepper sprinkled on top. The porridge had a ton of oil(you can see the pool under the eggs) with very little gomasio making it pretty oily and bland. As others have said, it’s slow even when it doesn’t seem very busy.
