Berkeley Apartments – Renaissance Villas

Update now that we are moved out:
They are definitely marketing to college students now. Which is fine, as long as you are aware that this building is turning into student housing/​apartments. Generally it had gotten much louder, there is more music blasting in the courtyards, and one day there was an incident involving a trash bag full of barf and the carpeting in the common areas that took several days to get cleaned up. One day we came home and found the entrance table covered in beer bottles.
The building now smells like pot and cigarettes on an almost daily basis now.
The elevator is past due for an inspection.
The hot water is so hot that it has burned me and my family members several times. When we brought this up we always got the response, «we just checked everything and it’s at the right settings.» Seriously, the water gets insanely hot, it burned my hands many times, and it’s generally a dangerous situation.
Our unit smelled like cat pee from Day 1 and we could never figure it out. We were talking to our neighbors one day and they mentioned the previous tenants had several cats and that there had only been 24 hour turn around between them moving out and us moving in. So, they did not clean the apartment properly at move out which is not okay when they also require pet deposits.
In the 2 months before we moved out, they called us 3 times to try to show our apartment. They also tried stopping by once, claiming they had given us 24 hour notice to show the apartment. They had not and I was quite disappointed in them lying to not only to us, but to prospective new tenants. I have also never been asked to show my apartment while I am living in it, so it was generally very invasive.
I found MOLD all over the wall in our closet during move out. See photo. It ruined several of our household items, so that’s fantastic (she said sarcastically).
The apartment started making horrible sounds and the floors would shake. I would guess this has something to do with the hot water, but I am not sure. It happens several times a day and was headache inducing. I took a video once, so feel free to message me if you would like me to send you a copy.
I will say that the move-​out inspection goes quickly, they explain all of the charges, and they auto deduct any remaining money due for utilities or whatever before issuing a refund, and it doesn’t take forever to get your deposit refund back. It was the most organized I ever saw them, so I will give them that.
