History

Established in 2002.

Carambolage Tailoring grew out of a relationship Julie Browne and Jonathan Martinez developed while working together in a high-​end alterations shop in San Francisco. Ms. Browne, a custom-​clothing tailor, sought fitting and customer service experience through working in alterations. She quickly learned the value of alterations. In 2014 she changed her focus from custom to alterations, and partnered with Mr. Martinez.

Business Owner

Julie Browne started tailoring at age 17 in Colombia, South America. She had a career as a bilingual medical social worker when a constellation of events landed her in the hands of Paris-​trained haute couture teacher Simmon Sethna. Simmon taught Julie the French method of flat patternmaking and haute couture sewing and design skills. Returning to Colombia, she learned bespoke men’s jacket-​making with master tailor Jaime Rojas. She met alterations specialist Jonathan Martinez working in San Francisco and they are the Carambolage team.
