East Bay Nursery

Our yard is filled with plants (trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials) purchased from East Bay Nursery (EBN). The quality of EBN plants has been first-​rate; the advice about where to plant and how to maintain them has been «right-​on!» Numerous individuals walking past our house have stopped to admire our yard and asked where we bought our plants. Our favorites, the dwarf contorted black locust trees planted in the median strip, have received the most praise. We looked for years before we found those perfect trees at East Bay Nursery. This coming spring we are hoping to purchase the «steppable» Silver Spoon (raoulia austrails) for our patio and a red/​orange New Zealand deciduous azalea for the shady side of the house from EBN. Rather than building fences, we have used vegetation to create «separation» from our neighbors, and all of us have found the plants to be both neighbor-​friendly and environmentally friendly. Thank you EBN for your advice in helping us select just the right plants.

Great selection or not, customer service stinks; rude, rude, rude!!! The guy who helped us out was decent enough, but another one, was unbelievably put-​offish, as was the cashier. Will not be going back there!!!

This nursery has an astonishing level of variety of healthy plants that grow well in our local area. Lots of healthy and well rooted drought tolerant plants, organic vegetables and herbs, and small trees. Good organic fertilizers.
Service is always excellent, and professional. Worth supporting as a community resource, too. Easy parking, fare prices. a long established well run business we’re lucky to have.

This place is amazing. I highly recommend asking for Jessie. He was very patient & knowledgeable. My husband are very happy with the trees we purchased and will definitely be going back again.

This place is awesome. My husband and I bought a giant house plant here over a year ago and were nervous we might kill it-​neither one of us has a green thumb. Well, we didn’t. So we just went back and got another one!

So this place was a very unlikely fine for us. We had driven by it hundreds of times and completely under estimated its value to us. Got an amazing variety of fruit and medium-​size trees which is great for us, and they could definitely get you larger trees if you wanted. Also they have a great variety of smaller heads plans fruit and vegetable plants succulents drought resistant plants, but most importantly they have an amazing stuff. There’s that is all very knowledgeable and if one doesn’t know something they will get you somebody. Everyone there is really good at landscaping xeriscaping and drought resistant nature alternatives. Prices are extremely reasonable some even lower than the big box stores. And you really do feel like if you’re buying from a neighbor. This is definitely our new go to for anything green related.

I’ve recently gotten the craze for DIY home remodeling. The first part of my job was redoing the front yard, and that involves planting some flora. I was in the neighborhood rather serendipitously, and I stopped by here.
Boy am I glad I did, I was in total newbie mode, but an employee by the name of Jose recognized my deer-​in-​the-​headlight looks, and came to my assistance. Jose walked me through the tree picking process, offered a quick lesson on what the growth patterns are of various trees, and also offered some helpful personal anecdotes from his home garden. Ultimately, I was able to pick up a nice shogetsu — cherry/​blossom tree — and a Fuji apple tree.
I just noticed there’s a Unilocal coupon for this place today! I plan on going back and picking up some more trees. Lastly, one thing about tree pricing; it seems like the pricing breaks down into three categories here; $ 40 for a tree that will fruit/​flower in 18 – 24 months, $ 110 for a slightly larger tree due to mature in 12 – 18 months, and anywhere from $ 400-​$ 1000 to a plug and play trees. Those bad boys are huge too so you might want to bring a u-​haul.

So I’ve been meaning to write this review for over a year!
My husband and I went into the nursery after buying rather expensive trees. They were supposed to be the same trees, but when we planted them we noticed that they were in NO WAY the same trees. I like symmetry — what can I say!
When we went to complain we asked to see the manager because the sales rep disregarded our complaints. Wow — if I thought the rep was sorta rude, I had no idea what was coming.
The owner of EB Nursery came out of the door with such aggression I seriously thought he was going to start out the conversation with a punch to by husband’s face. I have never seen such aggression in my whole life, even in a sketchy bar. My husband kept calm, but after seeing how he was trying to intimidate my husband I could not keep my cool. I proceeded to tell the owner that I have never experienced such horrible service and that we would tell everyone to not buy from his business. This is when he turned to my husband and told him to get me out of there or he would call the cops. Uh, oh, like I’m some piece of property of my husband.
HERE’S THE KICKER — I WAS 40 WEEKS PREGNANT!!!
I would love to have seen a cop come out and handcuff me away. Seriously, peeps, this establishment may have some nice rep people (I’ve run into a few), but heaven forbid you have any issues.

Best nursery I’ve found in Alameda County. Huge selection. Lots of knowledgeable help. They can deliver. Everything wonderfully described in detail on the pots or on signs in the pots for each plant. Small parking lot plus metered parking on the street.
Decent prices because many of their plants are pretty small. But since plants do grow, what the heck?
Closed Sundays and Mondays. They really should open on Sundays.

I’ve bought pepper plants from them two years in a row and both times after a few days there were aphids all over them and a fungus growing on the leaves. I’ve never had that problem from any other nursery.

Customer service is number one way above the product even if the product is crap. this place has a female cashier on an intercom screaming «meter maid is going down San Pablo make sure you feed your meter.»
You just lost a customer!!! That was really ridiculous. That was unnecessary!!!

Girlfriend and I had been to a few small nurseries in the East Bay that were all small and lacking much space and selection. VERY pleased to find East Bay Nursery because it’s the real freaking deal. It is NOT a tiny, overpriced showroom like some other nurseries — large space, great selection, and nice prices. We’ll be back — thanks, East Bay Nursery!

I just bought a couple of succulents and I’m not an expert in plants at all. So I was very pleased with the place. It has lots of pretty things to look at, it’s big, the staff seems nice and knowledgeable, and I didn’t find it expensive. It’s the perfect place for me to spend an hour on weekends and leave with a little something that puts a smile on my face! :)

I actually really like this nursery– especially the help and advice I received for my project– the nursery in Moraga is not as helpful and attentive as they were here! I thought I needed a basic medium size pottery for my transplanting of Meyer lemon tree– turns out I was recommend a wine barrel of which I immediately fell in love with the idea– not only do I LOVE WINE but who thinks of that? It’s chic and different and not too expensive– he drilled holes for me and helped me to my car with the soil and barrel I will definitely be coming back here next time I do an out doors project I loved this place– I think his name was Rosario?!? I think??? Nonetheless awesome score and when I checked in I landed a 10% off! Not bad– THANKS GUYS!!!

The staff has always been an awesome help since I started trying to garden. Trying is the operative word. So far, everything has worked out and my succulent garden looks awesome. It also seems to be one of the few nurseries that stocks trailing petunias, which I plant annually.

This was one of my favorite nursery when I used to be an avid gardener. Now that my dogs have taken over my like and my yard, I don’t garden that much. However, when my friend was looking for a particular plant, this was the firsts place I called, and of course they had it.
This nursery is like a little oasis right on very busy San Pablo avenue. You step in, and it feels like you are in a different world…

Berkeley Hort doesn’t hold a candle to this place!

East Bay Nursery is amazing. Gorgeous selection of trees and plants. Really knowledgeable staff. What more could you want?
If you love gardening and love finding happy, healthy plants to add to your collection, this is the place.

I have been going to EB for quite a while and with mixed results. Recently, I both two swamp myrtle trees. One tree did well, the other not so well. I took some photos, my receipt, and some leaves back to EB. The first person I talked to told me that I needed to prune the tree. I didn’t like this answer, so I ended up talking to Dominic, a supervisor there. Dominic treated me right. He said that, yes, they would exchange the tree. So, today we took the old tree in and left with a new, much less root bound one.
While I am happy with the treatment I received at EB, I still find it disconcerting how root bound much of the stock is at all nurseries.

Some people have a green thumb. Mine is black. I don’t mean to kill plants, it just happens. I either over-​water in bursts of zeal, or completely forget about my green friends for two weeks at a time. It’s terrible. That said, I love plants, and having them in my apartment makes me happy. So I stick to things that are hard to kill — succulents, cacti, and other hardy plants that can weather my inconsistent watering.
The East Bay Nursery has a great variety of outdoor plants — flowering, fruit-​ing, tiny potted plants, herbs, giant trees — and it’s a delight to walk through the rows of fragrant greens. Prices are reasonable, and range from well-​beyond-​my-​budget (over $ 1000) to «Ooh! I’ll get that one for my friend!» ($ 5). There are fewer options for indoor plants, which are located (logically enough) inside the store by the cashiers. I found an employee willing to teach me the differences between a few species of hardy-​looking potted and hanging plants — how much water and light they need, how much love and attention — and she was really helpful. With the help of a burly guy covered in mud, I managed to get two of those tough-​as-​nails plants into my car.
I may or may not have talked to them the entire car ride, apologizing in advance for being a bad plant-​mom. And, upon welcoming them to their new home, may or may not have immediately put reminders in my calendar to water them every week. Now all they need are names…

I’m not sure if I’m written a review for this place since I’ve been coming here for a few years now.
I am a fan of this nursery.
Clean, well-​organized, has a small parking, staff are helpful and has a very good variety of plants.
Unless the franchise, huge plant stores around the area, here I am confident that the plants I get were well-​taken care of.
I always check out their indoor plant area.
Also, I never miss to visit this place during the holidays. Their christmas tree decorations are always fun and inviting.
