This place closes at random times… Call them before you bother showing up. I have came her 3 times lately and they are always closed. I think today was the last straw… Not coming back

Gordo’s is my go to Mexican food in Berkeley. I think the varying reviews others post have a LOT to do with what you value. Is the place clean? No. Is the food aesthetically pleasing? No, since when is that a feature of good Mexican food though. My standard order is a steak taco with hot sauce and guac. The tacos are huge, if I’m REALLY hungry I order 2 and barely finish it. With the guacamole, I think each taco is about $ 3.60 so it’s a filling dinner for under $ 8.

I really liked the burrito they gave me. I went in expecting something worse and got something really good, it wasn’t almost empty when i went in so there wasnt too much wait, the burrito was awesome, specially with the guac they have, nice staff. And the price wasn’t too expensive.

Finally got to try this place the other day I was in the area. Ok so I’ll start off by saying that is certainly not in the best area in Berkeley, but let’s face it these business on Telegraph are geared towards the college students nearby. So keep it mind that this place does get rather busy during lunch hours and on the weekends, with you guessed it, college students. Now as far as the food goes, it is actually pretty! I got a steak burrito with everything and a friend of mine got some tacos which she stated they were good as well. Everything is freshly made and the prices for the items are a decent price. I’m not really in this part of Berkeley all that much but when I am I will remember that this place is here and will come here when I am craving Mexican food! Give this place a try!

We went to this Mexican joint on a late evening at the Berkeley area. The operating style is similar Chipotle with the conveyor belt ordering system. The store was a bit dark actually, most of the tables were a bit dirty, and the same goes for the floor. We ended up cleaning one with napkins ourselves, while they have 5 – 6 people behind the counter. I got the Carnitas Taco because the dude behind the counter said it was the bomb. It turned out to be quite the contrary, I did not know that before, but somehow the pull pork can glued together like a lump of meat. It was very gross looking… I ended up throwing most of it away after trying a few pieces, and the flavor was bland to the nether. Gordo Taqueria was more like Gross Taqueria for me. I guess Mexican food in NoCal is just not up to the standard like SoCal.

Seriously one of the best burritos I’ve ever had. Whenever I’m in the East Bay I make sure to go to Gordo’s.

Let me start off by saying the service here is horrible. They my order wrong twice and had a bad attitude. To top it off, the food was horrible. The meat tastes op and rubbery, and the chips were stale. Would not recommend his love to anyone. I don’t understand how they manage to stay in business(well it is a college town). I will never go back there.

Gordo’s is a pretty A-OK place. There are lots of mexican food places around berkeley campus. Gordos is definitely one you can go to for a safe bet. Their prices are a little high for the basic mexican food, but you can’t really argue. I always end up getting the super burrito with chicken because I feel like I want guac and everything else. The food is pretty okay. Not as tasty as I like my mexican food to be? But they definitely will give you enough food for its price unlike a lot of places. The workers work fairly efficiently but still expect to wait a LITTLE for your food. The place itself has hella room. Never have trouble finding a seat. Their tables ARE a little weird and different but its okay, kind of just eat your food and go on with your life.

If you’re around UC Berkeley and craving Mexican, Gordo’s is the place to go. I advocate the super burrito and chicken quesadilla here. There are a good number of seats so you can eat in, although I never have. The workers are nice and they like to joke around. They’ve hit on me while I was ordering before, which might creep some people out, but don’t take it seriously.

Not very clean place. Not sure it’s like that because it’s close to college campus. Line sometimes moves fast but sometimes not. We always get the plates — the food is also not as consistent. Sometimes the meat tastes really good and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s really a hit or miss. However, it’s a reasonably priced place.

Ugh. In here for dinner before the Ta-Nehisi Coats talk and it’s terrible. Now I knew I wasn’t going to get 5 star food at this joint but I wasn’t expecting flavorless EVERYTHING! I ordered the chili verde and spouse ordered carnitas plate. The meat, rice, beans and salsa all were blah blah blah. I wanted a quick bite before an event and wanted it to be decent — this is so not it!

(indignant angry screaming) Do not do not do not do not DONOTGOHERE you’re NOTGOINGTODOYOURSTOMACHANYFAVORS (can someone please call the health inspectors on this place???) now that there’s a taco place right down telegraph, no one has the excuse of saying this is the only one near by i got two al pastor tacos; the worker was rude as crap and honestly if i could go back there and slap him across the face I would. The way he handled my food was not only DIRTYANDDISGUSTING(he straight up missed the filling of the taco so it lands on the foil so all i had was this soiled mess on my taco), he made sure to use intimidation tactics like glaring at me and talking to his co-worker as they laughed at my reaction to him touching my food with his gloveless hands, smirking as he ignored my attempts to somehow talk to him about what he was doing. probably wondering why i’m so angry after this worker used his grimy hands to dig his fingers into all the onions and cilantro and used his hands place the meat on the foil. Oh, and in between he WOULDWIPEITONHIS F-ING DISGUSTINGAPRON — surprised he didn’t just stick his whole hand in the meat tub. he also used a dirty rag to clean the edges of the containers of the food whilst making my food, and oh, no surprise didn’t wash his hands or use some instrument to handle my food. never never never nevernever never again i took one bite and it was so salty and oily i could probably lick the top of Snape’s head after running 10 miles being chased by Fluffy and it would be considered bland. Forced myself to finish at least one taco because I wanted my money’s worth and I couldn’t bring myself to confront the workers while I was alone. Honestly that was stupid on my part. now i’m incapacitated by the utterly heinous anticipation of taco hell messing up my stomach. Can you say hershey’s squirts?

Better than Chipotle and really filling — I bought 3 tacos thinking it was gonna be a small baby taco like I’m used to in NYC. NO. This taco is chunky as hell. I struggled on the second, and looked forlorn while holding the third, determined to not waste my money but also trying to not induce a food coma in the actual restaurant. I felt my eyelids fluttering and my breathing getting deeper as I slowly took a small bite. I was a lil sweaty when I finally decided to stop eating, accept my losses, and just leave. I’m really cheap so this was tough to do. I’ll be back Gordo.

This place gets a 3 star just because it is only competing with Chipotle and La Buritta. You don’t have to do that much better to beat those places, and Gordo knows this pretty well. This place helps me with my burrito cravings whenever I’m on south side, but there are a lot of room for improvements, and I’m sure they don’t care. The quality and the taste is better than those Mexican food places that I mentioned above, as other reviews mentioned the meat here could use more seasoning(but it’s still very tender and good tasting). The way you order is like Chipotle, I usually get the beef or carnitas burrito, with Pico de Gallo, sour cream, rice, black beans, guacamole, and the red sauce. The super burrito already comes with cheese and the regular burrito doesn’t so if you add cheese to your regular sizes burrito, they charge you 50 cents, which becomes the same price as a super burrito(but obviously smaller)! So you are better off getting the super burrito. Their service by no means is friendly. My other compliant is that they serve irregular portions, if they guy likes you he puts enough meat in your burrito, if he doesn’t like you or he is in a bad mood the only thing you can find in your burrito is rice and beans.

Definitely one of the better Mexican places in Berkeley(better than La Burrita) but still not on par with Mexican places elsewhere. I usually order their tacos($ 2.85) and get carnitas. Their carnitas is particularly good and well seasoned. Didn’t like their quesadillas that much… Their burritos are just average. The tortilla gets really really soggy in the burrito and the meat is dry at times. Portion sizes here are smaller than at Chipotle.

This place has stiff competition in the Bay Area with burritos in the Mission, and then an unfair comparison to Tex-Mex style foods in SoCal. A three star rating seemed fitting for this fast place, similar to Chipotle, but better than Chipotle, yet not as good as the Mission. FOOD: I got a regular sized burrito with carnitas and guacamole. I would recommend getting the super burrito size for value. The meat was tender, pinto beans just right, and good amount of salsa. But something with the meat could have been better, maybe more spice or seasoning. SERVICE: Speedy, no frills kind of joint in Berkeley. Not much to comment there. Overall, a standard burrito joint in Berkeley. Nothing poor, yet nothing superb.

Used to come here back in HS. Haven’t been for a long while, but stopped in for a burrito today on my way home from the gym. The workers were unfriendly, but the food was delicious. Honestly, after living in Santa Barbara across from Freebirds, its really hard for me to find good quality mexican food that I actually like. This place is okay, and actually decently priced. $ 8.50 for a super burrito with all the fixin’s, including guac. I still have the second half of my burrito for dinner. Solid burrito, and the tacos are pretty good as well. However, overall, I’d say skip and hit Tacos Sinaloa instead(if you’re at the telegraph location). Much better selection of meats and amazing tacos.

Gordo’s is hands down the best option for burritos around campus. I don’t understand why people would choose La Burrita or Pancho’s over Gordo’s. The steak is consistently delicious, and the burritos are made in true SF style. I came here frequently as a student, at least once a week. I always got my money’s worth. The super burrito is the way to go, with the guacamole, sour cream, hot sauce — everything. I also am a fan of their spinach tortilla wraps. For some reason, this Gordo’s is not as good as the SF locations, but that might just be me… I’ve gone to Gordo’s in SF my whole life(it is my third favorite local burrito place, behind El Farolito and El Burrito). The taste is not exactly the same but very similar, and enough to make me a frequent visitor!

If you don’t mind the crowds of undergraduates during the school session this place offers a pretty good deal — tasty and generous plates of Mexican staples at a modest price. You order at the prep station and wait to pay at the register, your order generally ready by the time you get there as they they have a limited menu and are pretty quick to fill the tortillas. I was frankly kind of blown away by the portion I received when I ordered the two tacos al pastor for $ 3.18 plus tax. Green or red hot sauces for the asking when you pay. No frills seating area, no table service, but hey I will be back for that al pastor bargain for sure.
