I’m Glynis Brasfield-​Holloway, owner and head stylist at Hair by Glynis which is located in the heart of Berkeley, Calif. Joining me at my salon is rising natural hair fashionista Maryon Uchenna of San Francisco. Together we offer clients of all hair types a full spectrum of salon services.

Before stepping out from behind the chair, I believed it was important for me to get specialized training in particular areas of interest to me. These areas include cutting, relaxing and color. I trained at several high-​end salons in San Francisco, learning the fundamentals of salon culture, familiarizing myself with different hair types and textures, team work, time management and organizational skills.

My focus for my clients is to provide them with beautiful hair and provide that service in a comfortable environment. I love giving make-​overs and transforming my clients hair to meet the needs of their everyday life and reflect their personal sense of style. Hair by Glynis is a place to meet new

Took my daughter to have her hair texturized for the first time. Glynis was awesome, very gentle, patient, and understanding despite lots of (unwarranted) complaining by my daughter. Her hair was done in 30 minutes and now her long thick hair is more manageable with looser curls. Thank you, Glynis!

Glynis is the best hairstylist I’ve worked with. She’s patient, careful, skilled, and a joy to talk with while you’re getting a great haircut. Glynis is a trained professional in technique and pays strong attention to detail, while taking each individual clients needs into consideration. Glynis keeps abreast of current styles and has in depth knowledge in the art of hair coloring and highlighting. I am often stopped and asked who does my hair.
Equally important to me is the environment of the shop. You will find a pleasant atmosphere both in design as well as the people you meet. Glynis receives high marks for on time reliability, early start times, willingness to accommodate customers and a great attitude.

This shop has a really nice vibe. There are great really nice people there that give a great cut for cheap. I have multiracial hair that is difficult to cut and Glynis knew what to do right away. I would definitely recommend this shop!

Glynis is the BizNis.
She’s been doing my hair since 2010. This woman cuts like none other. I mean you SERIOUSLY will not get a better hair cut. I once went in for a relaxer and style and came out with a haircut haha. I couldn’t resist because she is that good. Her personality is A+ so every visit feels like you’re reconnecting with an old friend. You leave feeling great and looking amazing.

I love Glynis. She’s great. Glynis was the first hair stylist I found when I moved to the bay area over 10 years ago. I had horrible luck when I lived in Illinois and never found a stylist that really worked. So I feel very lucky to have found her. I’m always happy and whenever I get a fresh cut I get lots of compliment from coworkers, people on the street, ect. Glynis is very helpful and does her best to work with you. And plus she’s just super nice and a pleasure to spend time with.

My last hair dresser left the business to be a dog walker and I was absolutely terrified of trusting anyone with my curly natural hair. I wanted a change and I took a chance with Glynis and BOY was she amazing.
She did such an outstanding job with my hair. She understood what I wanted and asked when things were unclear. I’m so satisfied with it.
She’s also an amazing human being. You have to like your stylist personality as much as their skill and she is awesome all around.

Glynis is what you want in a hair stylist. She has been my hair stylist since she moved to her new location on Shattuck which is 2 minutes away from my house (I am the luckeist girl in the world couldnt ask for a better set-​up ;)
As mentioned Glynis does amazing work and the atmosphere coupled with her clientele makes this the ideal for anyone. She stays current and ahead of hair trends and will always challange you to step your game up.
You wont find yourself waisting an entire day in the salon as she remains professional and gets you in and out. You can relax and wont have to be harrassed by bootleggers trying to sell you knock-​off purses or CD’s or DVD’s as she has a unwritten «no solicitating policy» lol ok really Im the one who likes to enforce that unwritten rule.
All in all Mrs. G. is a wonderful spirit and if your like me you dont want just anybody doing your hair, if want someone thats going to respect your hair and your time Glynis is highly recommended.

I cannot say enough about Glynis. Glynis has been chopping, molding, coloring, layering, weaving, and most of all styling my hair for the past 7 years. I absolutely love her spirit and professionalism, and have referred several people to sit in her chair. Strangers have even eyed my newly cut style and asked, «Who does your hair?» I kindly hand them one of Glynis’ cards and they too become loyal fans. Honestly, I think she has anointed hands!
I also appreciate that Hair by Glynis accepts a diverse clientele. On occasion, I have seen various ethnicities either walk-​in or are loyal customers that have various hair textures, and both Glynis and Maryon handle them very well.
I would highly recommend Hair by Glynis to anyone searching for a professional and loyal hair stylists who is always open to exploring new trends.

Glynis does amazing work. Her salon has an intimate, boutique atmosphere and her prices are reasonable. She specializes in African-​American cuts, colors and relaxers and can give you consultation on any questions. I have been her client for 10 years and in that time she’s cropped my hair like Halle Berry, weaved me up like The Real Housewives and kept my relaxed hair healthy and conditioned.
The vibe here is very chill, unpretentious and there are no obnoxious clients to worry about. This is due to Glynis’s friendly and inclusive personality. She is a lovely and approachable person. Not only is she an expert stylist, she is also a trusted confidant.
