I’d never had any sort of PT before I went to Avi, so I didn’t know what to expect. It turns out that I would only ever want him to do any work on me. Here’s why: Avi is a professional who is enthusiastic about his work and deeply sensitive and attentive to the needs and wants of his patients. I first saw Avi at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo for my knee which I hurt while at Berkeley CrossFit. I brought up a barbell right under my knee cap while trying to do some crazy CrossFit thing, and suffered for a few months. During my first visit, Avi interviewed me thoroughly to get me to think through the injury itself, the resulting pain, the various circumstances that made it better or worse. After seeing the knee for himself and testing my flexibility, strength, and mobility, Avi taught me about how the knee, leg, and hip are connected and dependent on each other. Knowing all of this made me feel empowered and informed about what treatment he would put me through at the center, and what I should do at home. The exercises regiment he suggested was straight-forward, manageable, and actually kind of enjoyable. After three session with Avi, I felt like I had enough information to be on my own road to recovery. In about 3 months(right before my wedding), my knee felt much better. A few months ago, I decided to start going to the gym regularly. I’ve tried this before, but I never know what to do. I met again with Avi at Improve Your Movement and did a FMS movement screen to figure out what really needed attention. The process was pretty simple and quick, and Avi gave me a run down of all the various movements I could work on for flexibility, core strength, and overall strength. He also great exercises I could do on my own, even if I wasn’t going to go to the gym. When I started meeting with a trainer, I gave him all the information Avi shared with me, and that saved a lot of time to actually start exercising! I’m grateful for Avi’s work. He’s a cool guy, is very talented, and is easy to work with.

Avi came to do a Functional Movement Screening for a group of us at Grassroots Crossfit. He did a great job walking through each movement on how to do it without explaining what he was looking for first. This gave a great overview of where my individual movements needed some work from a mobility or stability point of view, as I couldn’t try to cheat on the movements to move perfectly. After the class Avi gave simple movements to do routinely to help with my mobility in my shoulders and hips. Great class and I hope to make it in for a full session soon!

Things I’m reminded of on a daily basis: The Bionic status starts to dissipate around 30. «Oh that’s a muscle AND it can hurt?» Stretch more… blah, blah, blah Lucky for me I know Avi and you should too! Who doesn’t need a physical therapist in their contact list? His number should be right after your doctor. Simply because what he does works; thorough assessments, functional programs for recovery, and easy to understand lingo. Not to mention his setup is legit, parking wasn’t a hassle, and easy to find. Rotary cuff injury… resolved.
