Jan Sturmann Photography

I worked with Jan for the FOR-​SITE Foundation website. I really enjoyed how he put together the many video documents for the International Orange projects as well as other FOR-​SITE Foundation projects.
Jan has an eye for capturing moments of visual interest that build a story. He has a feel for how to put them together into compelling narratives that can appeal to a wide audience.
I give him my highest recommendation. All videos were delivered on time and on budget.

Jan was great! extremely flexible. I needed a head shot… weeks ago… and he was able to fit me in that day even though he was leaving town. I am not very photogenic but he was able to make me laugh and feel at ease about having professional pictures taken. He was great to work with, very personable.
And, wow! His street photography is really amazing. His ability to capture people in the world, living life, really tells a story that we all want and sometimes need to see.

I just got married a month ago and Jan was a pleasure in every way. He has all the aspects you’re looking for in a photographer, particularly a wedding photographer; he has a great eye and catches the moments «in between» the poses, he’s invisible when he needs to be, and fun yet authoritative when he’s not, he’s reasonably priced, AND he’s got terrific turnaround.
Every time we met with him leading up to the event he was easy to talk to you, lighthearted, and clear. And day of, when I was getting ready, and had my girls, my mom, and the videographer sharing my space, he was very non-​intrusive and his presence somehow helped calm me down. I really appreciated his jokes here and there. Afterward, almost all of my guests commented to me that they thought the photographer was great. They would say things like, «He was just completely invisible but I could tell he captured all the moments». Or «He was a really nice guy.»
Also, he got all of our photos up on a website for us to look at within a week of the wedding. And we were able to send the link to that website to our guests and who could order prints from it if they wanted. We gave him a detailed list of which photos we wanted enlarged and the order and within two weeks of the wedding we had our albums. The whole experience was incredibly easy.
Not to mention that the photos were amazing. The other night we brought our albums to our friends’ who got married just two years ago and we looked at their photos while they looked at ours and even they had to admit that ours were incredible. Very artistic and full of movement; definitely not your average wedding photos. And that made us feel good about ourselves for finding such a great photographer. ;)
In other words, I would hire him again and would highly recommend him.

As an artist, Jan will capture the moments you felt, not only what you saw. He has an eye for the details and light that evoke emotions that last and linger as sweet, powerful memories. amazing.
I have also hired him to shoot photography for productions I have managed. He was on time, on budget, efficient, and dedicated. He is a pro in all ways. No stress, no drama. He will always deliver what you ask for and will provide a quality that is always more than you would expect. That is refreshing.
You will not be sorry to have had a chance to work with him. I could not recommend him more highly

Jan took absolutely beautiful, artistic, and all around perfect pictures of my wedding in Tilden Park last month. We knew within about a minute of meeting him that we wanted Jan to be our wedding photographer. From that day to our wedding, Jan was always highly professional and responsive. He was great at keeping in touch and making us feel confident that everything would go smoothly on the big day. The photos on his website speak for themselves but he also seems to really understand people and to capture emotions and relationships incredibly well. There are some photos from the wedding that I just can’t figure out how he knew to get. I guess that is the journalist side of him. Overall, I couldn’t be any more pleased with Jan – the photos are perfect and he was a very pleasant presence on our wedding day.

Jan was the photographer for my wedding last month.
led us to his website, and the wedding photos there instantly had us sold. We wanted photos that told the story of our big day and captured the personalities of the people involved. That is EXACTLY what we got. This man has a great eye. We couldn’t be happier with our pictures.
On top of that he is professional, he was right on time, we felt super comfortable with him, he got the photos to us in like a week, and he helped my dad pin a corsage onto my mom’s jacket. It doesn’t get much better than that.

When you have a newborn child, every picture is precious — so I wasn’t fully sure what to expect when I found Jan and asked him to photograph my partner and our two-​month-​old son. The photos that he talk brought laughter and tears. Jan captured moments, looks and emotions that I didn’t realize possible with the camera. He was wonderful to work with and found an easy balance between remaining open to our ideas and wishes and offering insightful suggestions about how to bring out more in the photos. It was an extremely positive experience. I cannot wait for our son to grow so we can enlist Jan’s photo skills again.

I had Jan take some photos of me for my business and i was amazed at his eye for color, detail, and light. The photos he took of me capture my personality and need for a professional representation. I would recommend him for any of your businesses needs. He was also very easy to work with and at no point did i feel uncomfortable or unsure of myself. Also, just a side note sometimes it can be hard to work with artists and they are sometimes not reliable. Jan was incredibly fast and reliable.
