LaFoot Plus

I bought new running sneakers from LaFoot because I was in need of new ones. I was training up for a half marathon and was looking forward to visiting this store. When I arrived the person there really helped me select the best running sneaker for me. I highly recommend this store because of the customer service and although the prices are a bit higher than other stores they have a quality selection.

I really struggled with this review. On the one hand, I ended up with some great running shoes. On the other, I had a terrible experience with service. After a day of reflection, I am giving two stars– for this reason: I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon around 3… the set up of the store is unlike a «normal» shoe store– there is only one wall of shoes, a very limited selection at that, and the rest of the store is geared towards PT equipment and a very large area for customers to try on shoes. From what I could tell, there were three employees (one was, I think, the owner) working with customers.
Not a single person acknowledged me when I was in the store. I spend 15 minutes wandering around, picking up shoes, trying to make eye contact. It was ridiculous. I felt completely stupid. As I was leaving, I asked one associate «Do I need an appointment to buy some shoes?» and she finally looked up and said «No. Why?»
If SOMEONE had at least said hello or «we will be with you as soon as possible» I would have felt so much better. I walked out feeling like as ass. The only reason I returned was that I had a gift certificate and needed some new running shoes.
I returned about an hour later and a very nice woman helped me get a new pair of shoes… but she knew I had walked out and I felt superficially «fawned» all over… not to say that she did not know her stuff, I just wish I had not had such a crappy experience to begin with. I really appreciate giving customers an attentive experience, but ignoring new customers for that goal is foolish.
I would never go back here for shoes. I will tell my dad to go for Transport or See Jane Run next year for my Christmas running shoe gift.

The Unilocal info on this business states you don’t need an appointment. Yet if you are coming here for orthotics, you absolutely do, as only one employee works with them. Also, the info says their business hours are Mon — Sat, which is technically true, but you can’t get orthotics on Saturday… So it might be ok if you come in on the right day with an appt

I went for custom orthodics for an old injury, i have had them for 20+ years and they are worn out. Without even looking at my feet Craig starts telling me i need a higher arch support. I have ridiculously high arches. i replied that i didn’t want orthodics with even higher arches and he gets up and tells me that i should take my business elsewhere. Unbelievable. Didn’t ask me why i had that opinion, not interested in a dialogue, just walked away. I do not recommend.
The rest of the staff was great and they have a nice shoe selection so i recommend them for that.

Excellent service but I learned the hard way that I don’t need a stabilizing shoe. Makes me wonder if the recommendations are specific to what I need or what they have. Had to go elsewhere.

Craig is awesome! I swooshed in there and our eyes connected and he knew I used to run and had bad knees and needed thick tennis shoes! Service was fast and efficient!
Upon arrival, Craig asked me to take off my shoes and walk so he could observe my gait. Immediately, he could tell I have knee problems and recommended a pair of very comfy brooks. We talked about what type of shoes best fits me and he even took time to explain to my husband why his shoes might not be the best fit for him.
Oh and I ran down the street with these shoes and am excited to actually run in them!

Several years ago I got fitted for custom orthotics at LaFoot and I also picked up a good pair of walking shoes there. The orthotics are still in excellent shape. I buy a new pair of shoes there about once every 12 – 16 months.
The best part about it all… foot pain gone!!!

This is a shoe store for true athletes. That’s not me. However, I decided one day to run a 3k marathon, super random, but I needed some shoes for the event.
When I arrived at La Foot, I saw a bland array of fitness and hiking shoe options. When I say bland, I mean hella bland like grey on light grey ultra chunky senior citizen comfort style heel. Sure, DSW or the Nike store probably would have a much more fashionable option, but running 3,000 all at once seemed serious.
The staff person greeted me and offered help right away. While I was searching for the most attractive shoe, she suggested first walking barefoot on the hardwood floor in order to recommend what type of shoe would benefit they way my foot hits the floor. I learned that my foot «pronates» which means they roll when I walk and my arch almost disappears. Without a supportive shoe I can developed knee and even hip problems later.
Long story short I tried on multiple pairs and found a winner that feel incredible on my feet and great when I walk. I paid around $ 120 and my ass ran non stop the whole time! Ok, a gentle trot more than a run, but a huge accomplishment that couldn’t have happened without my new shoes!

Getting fit with the right walking shoes at La Foot Plus solved my foot problems and spared me a lot of pain and agony during 5 days of walking around New Orleans.
I suffer from a 20-​year old auto accident knee injury, occasional back pain, and recently-​developed arthritis in my big toe. It was so painful I thought I had fractured something. It was hard to put weight on the ball of my foot, so I limped quite a bit. I was put on anti-​inflammatories by my podiatrist, but I was still having difficulties getting around. I had no idea what kind of shoe to look for. Luckily, I found LaFoot Plus.
I agree with what has already been said about their high level of knowledge and customer service. I only had to take about 3 steps before my feet and gait were analyzed and I was told I needed «a lot of correction.» (A lot of times, when you hear a statement like that, say from an auto mechanic, it’s bad, expensive news. Here, it meant my problem was gonna be solved.)
I tried on at least 3 different pairs of recommended shoes for comparison and fit. I was told to take a walk up and down the block to test them out. I was fitted with a different shoe on each foot, so that I could compare one with the other at the same time and then asked for my feedback, so that further adjustments could be made.
While there we never much discussion of style or color preferences, I never felt like I was being hustled. It was all about getting the right fit. They also recommended some Superfeet inserts. Although I had used some in the past, I found out I was using the wrong model.
My feet immediately felt more stable and the pressure was lessened on the ball of my foot, but I had no idea of how my feet would withstand 5 days of constant sightseeing and walking. To my total surprise and relief, except for the sore ankles anyone would expect from walking a lot, I had no further problems.
My foot, knee, and back pain were pretty much gone. In fact, after getting home from my trip, the tenderness I had been experiencing under my big toe had already healed.
I hoped that the correct shoe would help, but I had no idea that all my foot and knee pain could be resolved by shoes alone. An amazing feat.

The most important information for people whose feet or KNEES hurt: this store has the equipment to produce custom orthotics quickly on site, and the knowledge not to sell them if you don’t need them, a full line of off-​the-​shelf and custom knee braces, and sufficient stock of good shoes that you can walk out with one without waiting.
I was having metatarsitis (fancy name for painful toe) and made an appointment with Craig, who is a pedorthist (professional who has specialized training to modify footwear) and a physical therapist, and was recommended by friends. Craig said the pair of Keen hiking boots that I walked in with were fine, and that there would be no need for me to buy new shoes. Wow, talk about no sales pressure. He also didn’t recommend a custom orthotic, although there was a computerized machine milling new custom orthotics right next to us as Craig was helping me. He sold me a Smartfeet Green orthotic, and stuck two wool pads on the orthotic and one in the tongue of the shoe to support my metatarsal and keep my thin ankle from moving in the shoe.
Poof! All of the pressure on my metatarsal is gone. No flop of my ankle up and down as I’d usually have in any low shoe. Inflamation declining. Long walks, here I come!
I twisted my knee skiing 20 years ago, and wear a compact off-​the-​shelf brace to ski now. Hey, this place has much better off-​the-​shelf braces that I’d be more comfortable with, and that are still compact enough that they wouldn’t load me down with too much hardware. I’ll put on some shorts and come back to be fitted with those.
I did end up buying a pair of Brooks Addiction walking shoes but there was so little pressure that I actually had to ask to see them. Craig would have been happy to see me walk out in my Keens with a few cheap off-​the-​shelf parts.

Incredibly impressed how knowledgeable they are. Focused on getting people what they need, rather than on a sale.

I went here a few weeks ago to get analyzed for a new pair of running shoes and was very pleased. They spend plenty of time with their customers explaining his/​her stride, asking if they’re having any pain or issues and then discussing which shoes would be most appropriate. I also have really narrow feet and was pleasantly surprised to learn they carry narrow (2A) sizes in the store. After letting me try 4 pairs (they let you take them outside for a jog too), I ended up with a Brooks Addication.
After about 2 weeks of running in my new shoes, I was having a lot of pain and went back to the store to discuss what could be the cause. I was really impressed that Eddie was willing to swap them out (they were used!) for a different model (Brooks Adrenaline) and have been running in those virtually pain-​free since!
Would highly recommend to any runners looking for shoes!

Customer Service is a lost art. It seems that helpful and attentive service is the exception to the rule these days. I cannot sing enough praises for the Physical Therapist Craig who fitted me for custom orthotics. He was truly kind, thoughtful in his approach, and pleasantly inquisitive without being too intrusive. He made me feel completely at ease. I felt he treated me the same as he would have treated an Iron Woman triathlete even though I’m an out of shape health care worker with feet that kill me on my long shifts. I left in a better mood than when I arrived. I’ll recommend this place to all of my colleagues and plan to be a permanent customer. Thanks so much Craig! You made my day :) Also, this place is less than HALF the price that For Feet’s Sake charges. I cannot believe they charge $ 600 for custom orthotics. Also, LaFoot was ready to bring me in the same day that I called for an appointment, and the Orthotics are ready in a week. For Feet’s Sake takes two weeks. Don’t go there. Go to LaFoot!

This place is an outstanding example of a local business that trumps any large chain store. Yes, this place is probably more expensive than if you were to shop at a giant Sports Authority or on Amazon, but they really deserve the extra money. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the type that usually passes up the opportunity to buy something somewhere else if that means I save a few dollars, but I will say it again — this place really DESERVES the extra that they’re charging.
To explain: It’s not like they’re charging more simply because they’re a small business and the real estate on College Ave. is higher; they actually put a lot of research into their inventory — I asked! Apparently there’s some lab somewhere where they buy hundreds of pairs of shoes to test for stability and such to decide which are the best of the best to put on their shelves. Simply put, just by walking into the store you’re probably five times more likely to get a shoe that’s actually good for your feet — so much of the guess work is removed from the equation. Not only that, you will get some of the best customer service/​expertise out there! This is my second time buying a shoe here and both times I’ve had someone personally help me: the asked me about my needs, watched me walk, measured my feet, and picked out four or five different pairs of shoes for me to try on. As if that wasn’t enough, the poor guy today even sat down with me and helped me get the five pairs of shoes on and off (and tied them for me!) to make sure that the size/​fit is appropriate before I was asked take my pick.
I hope that my review isn’t overly enthusiastic that you disregard it. Please support this store. It’s so worth the extra $ 5 or $ 10 per pair to keep such an exemplary business like this going.

I can’t remember the last time a sales person at a shoe store measured my foot, brought out the correct sizes, and put the shoes on me! The sales person first watched me walk, then recommended several shoes he felt were appropriate based on my gait. He had me walk around in each pair, and even said I could go outside and jog around in them if I wanted. We narrowed it down to two pairs, and he then had me put one from each pair on, and walk around for a direct comparison. The shoes I ended up with fit better than any athletic shoes I have ever owned. If you would like to get the best shoes, matched to YOUR needs, the Le Foot is the place to go.

a podiatrist sent me here years ago for custom orthotics, and today it was time for new running shoes. I really like that I can just ask for shoes, tell them whatever issues I’ve had if any, try each pair (several times) as they patiently wait. I spent less time shopping, more time fitting and testing, which is good for my feet and peace of mind.

Both my husband and I have been regular customers at LaFoot for years. We have been helped many times by Greg and his knowledgeable staff. We have always been very pleased by the extremely knowledgeable and professional service we have received.
However, my recent experience with Loni was truly exceptional. I had been suffering from a mysterious malady on my foot. My doctor wanted to do extensive lab work before allowing me to see a podiatrist. When I told Loni about my symptoms, she suggested a possible course of treatment, while making the necessary disclaimers about seeking medical attention if the problem continued. Well, Loni was right on the money in her analysis. She placed a small adhesive pad in the proper position on my shoe insert and I am no longer in pain!
In addition, Loni spent over 30 minutes with me, trying on many different shoes until I found the perfect, right pair. I am so happy with my new shoes.
Loni is very patient, knowledgeable, kind and respectful. Thank you, Loni and LaFoot!!!

It seems kind of silly to write a review when almost everyone has already given this place 5 stars, but… I went here on a friend’s recommendation because my toes kept going numb when I was running in my Pumas and I was getting awful shin splints.
The guys here got me fitted with a good pair of supportive shoes for my planating feet and stuck a tarsal pad in there for the numb toes and I haven’t had any trouble since. Not only that, but a lot of the pain I was experiencing after running is completely gone and I can train more. I can’t think of anywhere else I could have gone where the staff would have been able to identify and solve my problem so easily.
My mom also went here. She has bad bone spurs and arthritis and they fitted her with some shoes. She hadn’t been able to walk even half a block for over a month because the pain was so bad, and when I came to see her a few days after she got her new shoes, she had gone for several long walks with her dogs and did a merry little dance to show me how spry she is now. I am very grateful to the fellow at La Foot who helped her get her mobility back. It is a priceless gift well worth the cost of a pair of shoes. Thank you.

Awesome customer service… I came in to find a pair of running shoes and left confident that i found a great pair to start my fitness regimen. The gentleman who assisted me had me take off my shoes/​socks and walk as he assessed what type of shoe would work best for me… he then measured and came back with a variety of shoes for me to try on. After much trying on and pondering (the salesguy was knowledgable and patient!), I made a decision on the Saucony… they have support, have some flexibility and the width i need.
I realize its worth spending a little more to find the right fit and purpose-​high stability (overpronation) shoe to have a comfortable running experience. I’m almost excited to start running after a 3-​year hiatus… time to hit the pavement!

This review is for the «PHYSICAL THERAPY» side of the operation. Not that they’re really separate, it turns out…
My single visit was 20% stretching and 80% shoe sales pitch. The «therapy» did absolutely nothing for my injury. The shoes I was sold were nice, but (in retrospect) irrelevant to the injury. Mr. Therapist was super friendly, but completely uninformed.
Fortunately, I visited a real physical therapist 2 months later. It turns out there’s a very specific treatment course for this injury. Two weeks later I was back in action (trail running and track), and I’ve had no problems since.
Bottom line: my insurance shouldn’t have had to pay for this. It’s a shoe store, first AND last.
