Tiffany (the owner) is awesome! I got in for a last minute, end of day appointment so I didn’t get the chance to meet anyone else. Turns out this place opened up around the same time I moved to the area, but didn’t discover it til yesterday.
I highly recommend this salon as a friendly, talented local business that knows what it’s doing! All the best to the owner and her team, places like this are what keep Berkeley fantastic.

I had a great hair dying experience with Tiffany. She took my hair from a medium dark brown to a rich blond for a halloween costume. I had a very precise color that I wanted, and she got it perfectly. It made the character and the costume. She also taught me a lot about how hair dying works! It was my first time getting it dyed.

I love, love, love the ladies at Pin-​Up Parlor! Natasha is my go-​to stylist, and she does amazing work, always taking into consideration what I want and what will look good on me. She helps me try new things while still staying classy and cute! Getting my hair done by her feels like hanging out with an old friend, even from the very first appointment! I look forward to every appointment and always leave feeling and looking fabulous!

I made a next day appointment for a bang trim (mine were pretty much below my nose) and I was quoted $ 15. Tiffany basically said to wander in a few minutes after my scheduled appointment. I understand when you’re running behind or something happens you didn’t plan for — perfectly reasonable at a salon. I get it.
So twenty minutes after my scheduled appointment (because of the above reasons) it was my turn. She knew exactly what I wanted but I asked she go a little shorter than what she had. During the cut she was panicked because she was suppose to meet with someone. I apologize but she says it wasn’t my fault. She finishes and I am super happy.
I would have given 5 stars except she said «it’ll just be $ 20» Uh watt. I was quoted over the phone $ 15 and the board behind her said $ 15. I told you how long my bangs were over the phone, you still said $ 15. I didn’t argue because I was going to tip $ 5 but I suspect she felt I wasn’t going to tip because of the super long wait.
Ugh. Welps, probably not coming back here for a long time.

Natasha is not only super talented, she is also creative, funny, honest and a beautiful person inside and out.

After letting my boyfriend cut my hair for almost a year I was feeling pretty drab. I scheduled to see Natasha and asked for some layers. I also have to mention I had some terrible highlights color corrections over the last year in other salons in the city. So my hair which naturally straight (with a slight wave) and lustrous was degraded to a dull, frizzy, flat, fried mess. Natasha did the best she could at getting the ends off and really gave my hair some life. She also fixed my bangs which I had previously butchered. I felt a little self conscious at first that it had gone shorter than it was but the results were totally worth it. A few short weeks later and my hair looks awesome still. They have some awesome and natural smelling hair products. Natasha was kind, friendly, no nonsense, beautiful, knowledgeable, and very helpful in restoring my hair. I will definitely be heading back to see her soon.

Tiffany is an absolute master, and just an awesome person to be around. She booked me in at the last minute for a cut — I had a wedding to attend that weekend where I was seeing a bunch of friends for the first time in AGES — and then even was able to do color correction on my hair as well!
Before Tiffany, I had been seeing the same stylist at another salon for several years but that stylist went on maternity leave. I decided to take things into my own hands and ended up with splotchy color and so-​so bangs. Tiffany instantly fixed it all and I left feeling and looking amazing. She even gave me a ton of Davines hair care products to try out before deciding on which ones to commit to.
I’m working out of state for a few weeks but seeing Tiffany will be one of the first things I do when I get back.

Tiffany is truly a master of her craft. Her skills and expertise allow her to tailor each haircut and color process not only to the clients specific requests, but to their type of hair, and the persons natural features. The result is a hairstyle that is simply unmatched. Tiffany was my stylist for 6 years before we relocated to Portland, OR. For the next 3 years I spent many anxiety ridden days in salon chairs of sub par hairstylists. Finally after doing absolutely NOTHING to my hair and hating it for almost a year I decided to visit Tiffany, even though it meant a 2 hour plane ride. I have to say I am over the moon happy with my hair. For me my hair has always been my crowning glory. It is a direct reflection of how I am feeling. When I sat down in Tiffany’s chair my hair was down to my bum (that’s saying something considering I’m 5’9″) and it was dull and lifeless. I had no reservations when Tiffany suggested I cut off about 6″. I trust her judgment implicitly and have NEVER been disappointed. She has always brought out my inner beauty by making me outer match how I feel inside and this time was no different. I have to say that I will not allow another stylist to touch my hair again. Tiffany took my hair from dull and boring to masterpiece in just a few short hours. She is easy to talk to, has a positive attitude, and is not scared to get her hands dirty or take feedback. I have never met another person as passionate, educated, and truly caring about their profession. She is constantly striving to do better, be better, and it reflects back in every persons head of hair that has the privilege of sitting in her chair. I get compliments just walking down the street. I had forgotten what that was like!

I’ve been seeing Natasha for a couple years now and can now say that I will never let anyone else touch my hair again. There are some people who are natural masters at their craft, and she is one of them. Love love love!

Natasha is amazing. She helped me say goodbye to my long, over processed frightening tresses and rock my fabulous new shorter hair. This was my first cut post-​baby and my hair was falling out like no other, and Natasha gave me an easy short, stylish cut that was not a «Mom» cut. Trust her, she’s just fabulous and her salon is oh-​so sassy.

I will never go back to another salon! Tiffany does such a great job with both the cut and color. Since I’ve been going to her, I get complimented on my hair all the time. She is a master at cutting bangs, even short, blunt ones, which is hard to find! I’m usually not good at describing what styles I want, but Tiffany is really good at figuring it out and coming also at up with great ideas. Also, if you want a bold style (bright colors, edgy cut, or whatnot) she is up for it and really skillful. I found at other salons the stylists would often not be willing to do the bold cut or color I would ask for, but instead soften things up. But of course you don’t have to want pink hair like I do to go to Tiffany!
The salon is cute and filled with cool books to look at while the color processes, and of course Tiffany is lovely to talk to as well. I always really look forward to my next appointment.

Woah! I haven’t reviewed pin-​up yet? I’ve been coming here for a few years now. I used to come every 8 weeks but then my schedule became very irregular and I do my hair way less now. I moved a bunch of times but still drive an hour to come see Tiffany! When I first came here, my friends and I had a drunk hair dying night (don’t ask-​it was … just don’t ask lol) and my hair was disastrous. Of course, Tiffany fixed it and actually went from Asian black to – who knows what the hell box dye — to this beautiful reddish color.
When I moved, I didn’t want to drive hella far to get my hair done so my boyfriend thought he could just dye all of my hair back to black! I agreed (WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOL) and as you can imagine, it did NOT turn out well. I went to a few local salons and well. nobody does my hair like Tiffany so I had to come back to pin-​up!
I decided I would commute the hour to come back because my hair always looks and feels better after Tiffany takes care of it! Sometimes I’m really excited to come and Tiffany & I can chat it up but sometimes I come and I’m hella tired from work so I basically say nothing and grade papers on my cell phone lol. Also the head massages are amazing! Also, every time I walk from the salon and go to my car, I get AT LEAST one compliment on the way! (P.S. If there’s no street parking, you can park in the garage on Milvia and Addison).
Lots of stylists mess up my thick, coarse, Asian hair but Tiffany definitely takes care of it! I usually just go and tell her that I want something new or different and just go for it and my hair always looks awesome. Cool shop too. Also, I always see Natasha cutting men’s hair so go for it, men!

I’ve been coming here since I moved to Berkeley in December of 2012. I’ve seen Natasha ever since then. She’s amazing with the cut, the color, and more. She’s always bringing new style ideas to the table (that I absolutely love). Highly recommend if you’re looking for an amazing, reputable, stylish approach to hair!

If I could give this a –5 I would!
As with other reviews about this place I was super disappointed.
I really wanted to like this place because it is literally a block from my house. I had a guy in the city I loved, but since moving to Berkeley he simply isn’t at all convenient to get to.
My first and last appt was with a guy named Noël. He basically gave me his haircut, even though I was asking for something different. Then I was charged $ 70, even though my hair is clearly a short easy cut. I decided not to go back, but my wife was also desperate for a new color and stylist person. She went the first time and Tiffany seemed to be fine. She messed up the color, but saw her again to fix it and did an ok job, and my wife liked the cut.
The next time she went back it was definitely more like the Tiffany experience I have read that others have had.
It is shocking that she is the owner, but Tiffany does not have the skills that she thinks she has and she doesn’t listen. She botched my wife’s color badly and then claimed she did what my wife asked for, but clearly hadn’t and it was shocking what she was about to let her walk out with. She kept complaining about not having enough time and her next appt arriving, yet no one ever arrived. She attempted to fix it, though it still wasn’t right, and when she had my wife in the chair to wash her hair was making faces and rolling her eyes, forgetting that there are mirrors and my wife could see her. Who owns a business and behaves that way. Then she didn’t even dry her hair and sent her on her way with a mostly damp head of hair.
Sounds like other stylists have gone to this place after leaving other salons. My advice? Get the hell out before your reputation goes down with this salon.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Nique F., the queen of fabulous style, whose Unilocal review led me to try out this salon, and trust my head of hair to Natasha. I was not led astray — After re-​locating to the Bay Area, I suffered 2 whole years of lame hair, and within an hour, Natasha totally revived it.
A good stylist knows how to work with different hair textures. An exceptional stylist understands how to read a person’s personality, and infuse that into a haircut. Natasha is exceptional, and really breathed new life into my will to look good!

So I’ve made it pretty clear that June in Toronto is my undying hair love. But I must admit… I cheated on her. But just once!
I cheated on her with Noël Shabazian here at Pin-​up Parlor. My hair was getting too long after months of neglect, and I couldn’t stand it any more. I came here on a walk-​in, and I was quite happy with the results.
I just got a simple cut, maybe taking off two to three inches. Noël was pleasant and accommodating, giving me suggestions about what to do with my hair based on my opinions. I usually don’t go into a hair place with a super clear idea of what I want, simply because I know beans about hair, so I appreciate hair people who know what they’re doing. I usually just end up trusting them. Sometimes this strategy leads to disaster, but it’s the best course of action with the pros. Noël, thankfully, was a pro.
This place is so reminiscent of the stereotypical barber, where you go not only to get your hair cut but also to get a free therapy session thrown in the mix. It’s so awkward when you must sit in silence for an hour with someone waving blades around your face. Finding a hair person with whom you can actually talk is half the battle. Besides knowing how to handle those duo-​blades (aka scissors), Noël was also charming and fun to talk to.
I will definitely be revisiting Noël as «the other hairdresser» if I ever find myself needing some serious salon damage control while in the bay.

This was a bad experience all the way around. This happened ¹²⁄₁₂
I called and scheduled and appointment and was very clear to the guy who answered the phone exactly what I wanted done. I wanted color all over and 3 colors of low lights. I have been getting my hair done the same way for a long time and just moved to the area so I needed a new person to pick up as my stylist.
The day of my appointment I show up and the owner is sick with the flu… so sick coughing, sneezing, blowing her nose.
I asked her would it be better if we rescheduled and she said no… I’ll be ok… I wasn’t worried about her, I was worried about me getting sick.
I would have just left had I not gotten dropped off.
So we proceed. Her area where she kept her brushes she grossed me out she had a whole drawer of brushes that were not clean. There was hair in everything.
I guess she was not worried about Lice or scavies, which I was given I am in Berkeley. Homeless population a million.
Why did I not just leave… I keep asking myself the same $ 300.00 question.
I am so irritated. I just sit there and go over with her what I wanted.
She got angry and frustrated saying that she didn’t know it was going to be this in depth of a appointment.
I got noticeably upset and said I was very clear on the phone with the receptionist when I made this appointment what I wanted. Christmas & NYE was just a few days away and I wanted my hair done.
She apologizes and says the reception guy who took the message did not convey to her what it was I wanted.
I continue to just be frustrated because I feel I am wasting my time, she was sick and I didn’t have time to find another person BY Xmas & NYE to get my hair done.
The gal has to leave me often to go cough and blow her nose.
So the appointment takes even longer.
Then She starts complaining to me she has to other appointments half way through my hair and she doesn’t know if she is going to have time to finish my hair. She asked if I could come back another day I told her yes but it would have to be after the New Year.
As I went to pay for the service I realized she charged me for the whole thing she did not just charge me for what she had done. $ 240.00
I was soooo mad. I just wanted to leave. I ended up tipping her. 20% because I thought I was going back. Although she did not deserve it by far.
I get all the way home (not even in the same city) and notice she did not return my credit card.
I had to call the shop over and over again till 9′ o’clock that night when she finally answered.
She apologized, saying how tired and sick she was feeling.
I let her know that I needed to finish Christmas shopping the next day so I needed to meet with her early to get my card. She agreed
I called her all day the next day. She did not get back to me till 3pm
I can not tell you how frustrated I am with this situation.
To this day I still have not heard from her about finishing my hair.
Nor did she give me a refund for the amount she over charged me or an apology for the predictiment she put me in with loosing my whole next day being unable to Christmas shop.

Noël (Best Blonde in the East Bay!) took pity on me and got me in on very short notice when my usual salon screwed up the scheduling. He was very sweet, listened to what I wanted and did a great job on both the high-​lights and the cut. I wanted it short, but not butch. Very happy. Thanks Noël!

If my hair is any indicator, I may be going through a mid-​life crisis. In the past few months, I’ve gone from blonde, to light brown, to dark chocolate as if I’m changing outfits vs. hair color. But thanks to a very supportive boyfriend and a fabulous stylist, the transition has felt more empowering than erratic.
Natasha is my girl. I followed her from Blow, and am much happier to visit her at her new home at Pin-​Up Parlor. A little haven of transformation off University Ave, with friendly stylists that make even first-​time clients feel like regulars.
Here’s what makes Natasha a stand-​out stylist: she is confident & experienced, but still includes me in the conversation. She’ll think out loud as she’s deciding which method to use for my cut or color, so I know exactly what I’m in for and have the opportunity to give some personal input. She’s given me great advice about how to achieve my «goal look» (long healthy bob with swoop bangs), like never letting anyone razor layer my hair, and switching to a silicone-​free products to avoid greasy build-​up. She knows the subtleties of my mane: which direction my hair grows in, how soon I realistically need a bang trim, and how I like it styled.
Not only can I trust her with a pair of scissors or bowl of color, but she is always chipper, chatty, and a blast to hang with for a few hours. You’ll feel like friends after just one visit.
