My experience with LMI as a provider has been excellent. I believe I’ve had their service for about three years. I have the PHLO service, which includes a landline. I’ve lately been experiencing timeouts when using my Learning Management System (I teach). I decided to inquire about the High Speed Wireless plan and sent an email regarding pricing. I received an email back, but about 10 minutes later received a call from the individual who had emailed me. He wanted to know if I was having problems with my current service. I explained what was happening. He had already tested my line from his end (before he made the call!), and said the incoming signal was more than adequate. We then discussed other causes for the timeouts, and he said if I those avenues don’t take care of the problem, that I should call tech support (this person is actually in sales). He explained that my current speed is faster than what I would have from the lowest priced High Speed (which is more costly than what I have now), and suggested that before considering a change of plans, that I work with Tech support to see if my current plan can work.
I switched to LMI because of the horrendous customer service and escalating cost of my former ISP. Today was an example of incredible customer service — proactive and knowledgeable and when did you ever have a customer service rep talk you DOWN from a more expensive plan???

Lmi has been my ISP for about five months now. So far so good. It was rough getting started because of scheduling conflicts (moving date/​address changed multiple times) but they were really accommodating to my schedule and transparent about their schedule and issues with third parties involved in getting me set up. Thanks, guys!

I’m a new, and very happy, customer of LMi in North Berkeley. My apartment is at a pretty good location so I’m able to get about 10 Mbps of download speed, which is enough for me to stream in HD. It’s faster than what I was getting from Comcast, and for much cheaper. It took a while to get the internet set up because of issues getting access to the phone box at my building (not LMI’s fault) but they were patient with me the whole way and explained exactly what access I needed from my landlord in order to proceed with installing the service. 5 stars!

El Cerrito here. Great customer service but sub-​par connection. I’m basing this mainly off streaming videos. Netflix, HBO l, Amazon what have you. Constant pause and rebuffers. Friendly/​responsive customer service, but service would even cut out for dozens of minutes at a time.

finally. a full free break from comcast. long time coming. consistent speed, reliable. call them.

They do what they say when they say, and it does what it says on the tin. Unlike AT&T. Oh, and for way less money as well.

LMI is a Berkeley institution and has been around as long as I can remember (long). A local internet provider is worth something. A few months ago I switched to LMI after years and years with ATT. LMI has the advantage that they provide month-​to-​month service; ATT doesn’t. Astoundingly, the LMI service that I get now (in Piedmont) is exactly what I had before with ATT with all its quirks and bugs. They call it something else but it still is ATT’s DSL line. Even the tech guy who came out was from ATT, and the speed is identical, ~3 mbps max. The only difference is that the LMI service is twice as much as ATT’s. Granted, the LMI folks are sweet, responsive and knowledgeable, and add some human touch to the internet provider experience but in the end you have to decide whether this is worth it to you.

We’ve been using
for 3 years. We are in San Francisco, near 27^th and Guerrero. We have their PHLO+ Internet and Residential (real analog) land line. The monthly bill is about $ 54.00 per month, including taxes and fees etc.
I just did a speed test on my internet connection … the result was: 10.06 Mbps download speed, 0.88 Mbps upload speed. This has worked fine for us. All we do is surf the web, do business transactions, stream music, watch an occasional video here and there, etc.
We use
for internet and phone service. The phone service they provide in San Francisco is REAL LAND LINE SERVICE, not VOIP. That means that when the power goes out, my land line phone will still work. This is fantastic. It saddens me greatly that the U.S. government is allowing our traditional land line network to fall into disrepair. At many locations, the land line has been allowed to deteriorate such that the only option left is VOIP or cell phone service. Thankfully, land line phone network is still viable at my house, and this is what my
phone runs on.
is a privately owned company, staffed by people who care. When you call them up during business hours, a regular person answers the phone and quickly answers your question. You don’t have to go through the gauntlet of «press 1 for this» and «press 2 for that.»
is a small company … capitalism the way it’s supposed to be … private enterprise and entrepreneurship. Why did we give up so much of our creative spirit to ginormous corporate entities who don’t give a F? We switched to
from AT&T, and we’re so happy we did!

Their speed varies depending on where you live. I am in the Maxwell Park neighborhood and I’m getting 4.4Mbps download and 1.13 Mbps upload. I can run Netflix, youtube, and normal internet browsing. I can’t say anything about hardcore gaming though. No time for that anymore.

I was an LMI customer for about 2 years and was very pleased with every aspect of this establishment… When you have a problem you can get someone on the phone in minutes. The customer service I received was light years ahead of what I had to deal with larger companies… I would recommend LMI to everyone!

I called LMI last week to ask about getting internet set up at my new apartment. The phone call took maybe twenty minutes, and the quote was a little higher than what most of my friends pay with Comcast, but it was so convenient I decided to give them a go. Over the weekend I got an email telling me someone from ATT would come out to my property to do the initial setup today (⁸⁄₆) between 8am and noon, and I would likely not need to be home — I stayed home anyway, just in case, but around noon I got an email from LMI saying the first stage had been successful and asking me to call to schedule the next (and final) step. I did, and they were able to send someone within a one-​hour window on the same day, 2−3pm.
Ken showed up at 2:07. He called, as I had requested, so I could go and let him in at the gate, and he was immediately helpful and no-​nonsense while somehow still being warm and friendly. He was super nonplussed by my half-​moved-​into apartment, and he even helped me figure out which key would let us into the basement with nary an eyeroll! Twenty minutes after he arrived I had a wifi network with a name and password of my choosing, and for the past two hours it’s been working great!
Obviously I can’t comment on the long-​term reliability of the Internet service itself, but on a customer service and general convenience level LMI tops all the service providers I’ve ever worked with.

I’ve used (well, tolerated) Comcast and AT&T in the past, but Lmi beats everyone else out of the park when it comes to providing good quality internet service. It’s been 10 months since I first signed up, and I have not had a single issue. But if there ever were a problem, it’s so great to know that an *actual live human being* would pick up my call on the first ring. Please support local business and choose Lmi over those big telecom giants!

Call these people first. The guy I talked to actually said that, in my specific area and situation, another (named) provider would be a better choice. I don’t want to name the other company here so you don’t think this is spam. But LMi COULD have provided my service, just not as well because of things like our distance from them, etc. Honesty… wow.

About four months ago I signed up with LMi as my internet provider and also got a land line with it. I could get rid of AT & T which made me very happy and I am still saving money.
Recently I took a crashed laptop in to recover what had been on the hard drive and Chris worked with me patiently, keeping me constantly updated on the progress. He also restored the computer to the way my old one was and that was well worth the $ 50.00 it cost me. I highly recommend them.

What is a good ISP? The one you forget about because it just works!
Ever since I switched from COMCAST to LMi​.Net, I don’t have to think about my internet. It is there, it is fast, it works. I don’t have to dive under my futon to reset my modem, I don’t have to run speed tests to confirm a slow downs, I don’t have to call support and complain — I just don’t think about my internet.
The fact that for same $ 50 I now get 27Mbps instead of COMCAST’s 3.5Mbps (Gosh, what a joke) with a land line to boot is just an icing on this cake!

As a small biz owner and Mac user, I’ve used LMI at least for the past decade. I travel clear across the Bay for their help, a 3-​hour trip. Always worth my time!
I’ve gone 3 times for laptop repairs. Last year or so, I spilled water into my keyboard. LMI cleaned it up, and replaced it w/​a refurbished keyboard that’s still working fine. Then just last week, I thought my system was under attack. Shard, the IT guy (spelling?) sleuthed in person, in an educational way. And showed me how to prevent attacks.
Privacy: I don’t trust anyone else w/​my data. LMI doesn’t keep our emails beyond a few weeks or so. And cloud backup data’s stored right at LMI, not in some other country.
My DSL connection seems 99.999% reliable. Occasionally goes down, but quickly back up. Tech support’s always avail on the phone to tell us exactly what’s going on.
Last but not least, I love LMI’s sweet, well-​cared-​for dog :) And their comfy lobby.

Dumped Comcast after weeks of internet service going down at around 6:30 pm. (Seriously. Two weeks, daily). Every call to tech support: have you rebooted the modem? Really? Nope. Never considered that. Thanks for the level 1support.

Alright… So LMI is a great local ISP but unfortunately, the speed I’m getting isn’t convenient for me. I’ve tested it for a couple weeks now it just doesn’t make the cut. And this isn’t LMI’s fault. I am just too far from the tower. I’m going to have to go back to a major ISP, which is sad. If they were to increase their speed at some point, I’d go back in a second.
In terms of customer service and technical support, they are great and quick. Feels definitely more personal than ATT. I hope to be able to use LMI someday.

For my birthday, I was introduced to the «blue screen of death.» Ugh.
Not a PC person myself, I didn’t fully grasp the ramifications of this right away. And I really had no idea who to call or what to do. I remembered
was located down the street from where my own business was first located. So I gave them a call.
I spoke to Jonathan, one of the co-​owners. He talked me down from my state of panic and explained what would or could happen going forward. He set me up with an appointment to have the tech come out the next morning. Will, the tech showed up promptly and worked diligently to try and recover my failed hard drive.
Unfortunately, my drive was so badly damaged that I had to send it out to another drive recovery company to recover my files. LMI, and mainly Jonathan, went above and beyond to help me get them recovered quickly and with minimal expense (which was still pretty costly, so this was a bonus). They worked with me on my timeline (I needed this done yesterday — these were my business files I had lost) and numerous phone calls and emails later my business is up and running again with all my data recovered.
5 back ups later, I hope I never have to need this kind of service ever again. But if I do, LMI will be the first that I call.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was a bogus overcharge-​that was it! I notified the appropriate parties, returned all property and the final separation from Comcast was done!
Looking for better and found it with LMi-​great service, great price. Have turned on several friends who are equally pleased. Moreover, its a good feeling to support a small local business.
We are almost 6mos together now and the future looks long and bright!
