Matthew Nealon – Endodontic Care Center

Face it — no one wants to get a root canal! But if you have to, I highly recommend working with Dr. Nealon. I had a somewhat complicated procedure due to the nature of my tooth, so I had to go three times over a couple months. Every time, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. They explained the pricing very clearly, which helped me to feel comfortable going in that they weren’t going to nickel-​and-​dime me for every little procedure. The office is really nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable. Dr. Nealon has down-​to-​earth, kind, and calming presence while being professional and communicating very clearly about what he is doing. I wish more health care providers were this personable. It’s a little strange to say that my root canal was a pleasant experience, but it was!

Dr. Nealon did a root canal for me today — in one visit! — and he was first rate in every way: pleasant, friendly, and professional. He explains exactly what will happen during the procedure and what to expect afterward, and he clearly knows his stuff. Plus, his office is beautiful and relaxing (they’ve got posters of tropical beaches on the ceiling!). I never imagined that having a root canal could be such a stress free and comfortable experience. Thank you, Dr. Nealon!

Dr. Nealon is a very nice and gentle doctor who gave useful suggestions and very professional. Although my tooth ended up have to transfer to an oral surgery doctor, his kindness and knowledge still leave me great impression. I would definitely recommend him!

Well, here I am writing a 5 star review about getting a root canal. go figure.
I actually found the procedure fascinating. Dr. Nealon clearly knows what he is doing and it’s fascinating to watch. My root canal was a little complicated because my nerve space split into two. In the x-​ray you could clearly see how it branches and one branch was pretty curved. It obviously took technique to feel out those two branches. I felt like I was watching a mechanic who really knew the specifics of a particular model of car. He’s a specialist, and he knows what he is doing. Avoid him at all possible if you can, but if you need a root canal he’s your guy.

I first went to Dr. Nealon 2 years ago, he was referred to me through my dentist.
I needed a root canal and was horrified. However Dr. Nealon made it so painless and easy it was better than getting a filling at my regular dentist. Sandy and Alicia are amazing and are so welcoming and friendly.
I just went again yesterday because I was had another toothache and thought I may need another root canal. There was nothing wrong with my teeth and Dr. Nealon suggested it was probably more of a gum issue. He gave me an antiobiotic rinse and told me to call if it was still painful in a few days. I felt like an idiot wasting their time, but they were was really nice about it.
I have sent a coworker and my husband to them when they needed root canals and they also had great experiences.

I never know what to make of it when there is one negative review for a business among totally positive ones, and wouldn’t have expected to contribute one. But in fact, I did not have a good experience with Dr. Nealon even though everyone else had great ones. Maybe I caught him at a rough moment, or maybe he and I just didn’t have good chemistry. But I don’t doubt my perceptions or experience.
It was a consultation referral from my dentist to determine whether a molar is viable and can have a crown cemented on.
The appointment time was 3:50. I arrived at the office before 3:40, filled out the paperwork, and was seated in the examination room. The assistant said she was going to take an x-​ray. I told her I’d just had an x-​ray a few days prior and asked if its resolution was good enough that another wasn’t required. (That question wasn’t answered.) Dr. Nealon entered a little after 4:10. He didn’t look at me but spoke behind my back while looking at the x-​ray. Then he faced me and introduced himself very briefly and impersonally without a hint of warmth, friendliness, or visible interest in me as a person. He then measured some pocket depths; I asked whether anything was «more than 10» and he just shook his head no, not telling me what the measurements were. Then he touched a cold device to the tooth. He repeated the test and told me the tooth was alive and could be crowned.
When I asked if he had any advice or wisdom about a bad case of paresthesia/​dysgeusia I unfortunately got as a result of the anesthesia for the crown prep, he merely said dismissively: «It’s a once-​in-​a-​career thing.» That wasn’t helpful in any way. He added that he had something to suggest, and I asked what it was. He replied that it would be in the report to Dr. Adamé.
I checked the time again when he left the room. It was 4:20. The total clock time he spent with me was 9 – 10 minutes.
The bill for this amount of time (and degree of impersonality) was a shocking $ 169. When I asked if there was a cash or senior discount, the receptionist consulted with him and came back with a 5% discount. If I could earn even a fraction of that kind of money in 9 minutes I would be amazed. It’s also true that if I were able to dispose of a consultation appointment in less than 10 or 15 minutes, I would simply not charge for it – especially for a low-​income patient like me.
There are some things I absolutely cannot understand in this experience and some questions I have, as follows:
1. What does he think it feels like to a patient facing the life-​diminishing experience of paresthesia/​dysgeusia to have the question treated so dismissively?
2. If a practitioner doesn’t wish to directly tell a patient anxious for relief something known that might help, why say one has an idea but will not divulge it? If it can only be revealed to another professional, why dangle it out there for someone to be tortured by? Why not just simply keep that information to oneself and write it in the report (which, according to my dentist, he didn’t anyway)?
3. What in anyone’s conscience allows them to rip anyone off so badly for ten minutes of office time? I once encountered an MD in this same neighborhood with the superstar attitude and got away from him as quickly as I could. I don’t think that approach is popular around here.
I’m sure Dr. Nealon’s technical skills are outstanding and my teeth would be in good hands were he ever to work on them, although that won’t likely happen. Having been alive for 66 years I’ve learned from long experience with doctors that their professional skills are not always paired with good psychological or humane abilities. Nevertheless, I don’t believe this sort of thing should go undocumented.

I give my highest recommendation to Dr. Nealon. He was able to diagnose and treat a complication root canal situation with great skill and an empathic and respectful manner. The staff are lovely also and everyone made me feel comfortable and well cared for.

Three words; Painless Root Canal.
I put off getting my root canal done for over a month, trying to get up the nerve to make an appointment. Everyone in Dr. Nealon’s office was patient with my hesitation and very informative.
Now that it is over, all I have is praise for the entire group, and especially Dr. Nealon. Painless root canal. Extremely accommodating staff. I was quite nervous, and was never made to feel as if I were a problem patient. The procedure was comfortable, the chair was comfortable, the recovery was easy, the tooth is great.

I think most people will agree with me when I say that a root canal sounds like an extremely painful and terrifying experience. Definitely not so with Dr. Nealon!
From the moment I stepped into the office, I felt very welcome and comfortable; the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and put me at ease before my procedure. I was also impressed by all of their modern equipment and their obvious effort in making the office look as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
During my entire procedure, Dr. Nealon and his assistant were constantly checking to see if I was okay and even explaining what they were doing while they were doing it, which I thought was really interesting! :) They took plenty of xrays and pictures to make sure that the surgery was moving in the right direction. I also felt absolutely no extreme pain or discomfort during the entire procedure. I did feel a little pain at one point, but was quick to tell Dr. Nealon, who gave me more anesthetic. Overall, Dr. Nealon was extremely gentle with my mouth, which was greatly appreciated.
Some of the things that I love the most about this place are the tools that they use. They put a rubber dam in my mouth, which prevented any of their rinses from going down my throat. I’ve never used one of these before when getting dental treatment, but I really appreciated the use of it for this procedure, as I could breathe through my mouth freely and didn’t feel like I was choking every 5 minutes like I usually do. They also had me bite down on a mouth guard to keep my mouth open, which I REALLY liked because I could rest my teeth on something, rather than trying to keep my mouth open for an extended period of time. I also really liked that Dr. Nealon uses a microscope to look in my mouth when performing the surgery; it definitely made me feel more comfortable about the procedure because every little detail of my mouth was magnified so he could be as precise as possible. Another random thing I liked was the chair I sat in for the entirety of my root canal. Why, you ask? It was extremely comfortable! Why don’t all dentist offices use this type of chair?
And the result of this root canal experience? I really just have so much love and appreciation for this place. They took such good care of me and it was definitely the best dental work procedure that I have ever experienced. If anyone ever has to get a root canal, I would always recommend them to Dr. Nealon with no doubt in my mind.

I have had nothing but incredibly friendly and caring treatment at the Endodontic Care Center. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE (Alicia, Sandy, Dunja, and Dr. Nealon) is sooooo nice!
I was super nervous the first time I went in for a consult, but the calm I felt when I walked in the office took that away immediately — there are lotuses and fountains and pretty windows and calming paintings on the walls!). Then Alicia smiled and started chatting with me about celebrity gossip (It’s my guilty pleasure, leave me alone) and I knew I was going to have a good experience! Even the bathroom made me feel calm!
Dr. Nealon is really thorough and talks about the entire process of the root canal, including what happens before and after. I’ve even asked him questions while he’s looking through that über-​cool microscope and he’s always taken the time to answer them, with patience, and most importantly, without judgment! (I hate when dentists judge my mouth — don’t you??)
Sandy and Alicia are really helpful when it comes to feeling ok about paying a very large bill (hey, insurance only covers so much), and they have been great about working with me to set up a payment schedule.
I’ve now had two root canals done, and I’m going in for my third (I just have really crappy teeth and have had really crappy dentists) next week. It’s strange, but I’m actually looking forward to it!
Really, I’m just looking forward to wearing those awesome blue, green, or purple glasses! The world is just better with colored lenses on :)
So, if you have to go to an endodontist, I would TOTALLY choose Dr. Nealon and the entire Endodontic Care Center — they’re awesome!

I had two separate root canals done by Dr. Matthew Nealon, and both were done carefully, with great professionalism and thoroughness. Dr. Nealon is friendly, helpful in explaining the procedure, and very concerned for the well-​being of his patients. His high-​tech equipment allows him to operate quickly and efficiently (the two root canals combined took less than three hours) without sacrificing a sympathetic human touch. A quick call to check up on his patient later that evening was a pleasant surprise. I did not have to wait at all for the procedure, and it was so painless that I fell asleep during part of it! Highly recommended.

OK, I confess :-(I do not like pain … me no like pain… That naturally meant that root canal treatment was not my choice of spending my precious day off. I wanted to escape. BUT, My whole idea of root canal changed dramatically the day I met Dr. Matt Nealon. I am speechless. I am not exaggerating. First of all, his office is so welcoming and warm with smiling front desk girls. Secondly, they have the latest high-​tech, most amazing state of the art equipment you can imagine. Their bathroom is like the one in a resort spa. (I know I know, probably this is not that important to you, but it is to me, and I got pretty excited) AND this is the best of all… Dr. Nealon is so professional, super smart with a nicest smile (not the fake one) that makes you feel happy and relaxed. His assistant is so kind and professional, too and she makes sure you are comfortable every minute. I had a really difficult tooth to work on but he performed a miracle on it with no pain! I am serious. I did not even have to take any painkiller after the treatment. I almost fell asleep during the treatment. I saw him 3 times in last 1 month, and all of my visits were very pleasant. I signed up with Unilocal so that I could write a review about Dr. Nealon and tell everyone «root canal treatment can be a pleasant experience» if you find the right doctor… and i highly recommend Dr. Nealon! WOW!

I’ve never contributed a review before, only seen fit to profit off the reviews of others. No longer since I had such a great experience with Dr. Nealon. His professional, thorough manner is complemented by a laid-​back style that puts you at ease. This is still a root canal so I was still sore, but THAT’S IT. Went to work the next day. No tough food restrictions, no need for narcotics. Just so blown away after all the root canal stories I’ve heard in the past. Recommend him very highly.
