Normally when most of us see any establishment or item with perfect reviews there’s a reasonable tendency to become cautiously suspicious. Under «normal» circumstances I recommend a double take, but in this particular instance I can vouch wholeheartedly for the reputation and deserving nature of this one man operation. I have used Lars as my go to framer for two decades. There is absolutely no question about his unparalleled craftsmanship. Every piece (a dozen or so) has stood the test of time from start to finish. Never once have I had to request any changes, alterations or repairs. To boot, he has a wonderful selection of quality materials that I imagine fits almost anyone’s taste.
Time after time we have collaborated to create personalized combinations that compliment the art, my preference for uniqueness, as well as my home décor for very reasonable prices. My only suggestion is to get your artwork to him as early as possible because he is both popular and meticulous. Enjoy the BEST, you will not regret it.

Lars does fantastic work. I received a gift from my wife that he did and it is now hanging in my home office … I love it so much that I asked him to do a very special gift for my son when my son became a father. The art and design of his work is inspired … the craftsmanship is flawless. And … you get to meet him and talk to him which is worth the price alone.

Lars is amazing and kind. He works with you and treats every piece of art so delicately. Lars is professional, meets deadlines, and treats everyone with respect. I am so happy to have worked with him and I hope to collaborate with him more in the future.

I want to respond to Steven W. of Berkeley. It’s too bad he had that bad experience because Lars is such a great guy and a talented and created framer. He is also extremely chatty and really loves to converse with people. That must be what happened that day. He was in the middle of a good story. That said, he really could have acknowledged Steven’s presence but I know it’s worth the wait.

First off, do NOT let that one star review influence you.
Lars of NBF is helpful, friendly, and accommodating. I have gotten things custom framed by him several times. He sets his deadlines far in advance, but he always meets them. I asked him to rush it for me once (I was in a hurry for a show and needed it a couple days early before his deadline) and he was able to do that (major awesomeness). I know he is super busy and that meant a lot.
He is helpful too with aesthetic decisions. I try to choose the frames myself and I ask for his two cents. His input gives me confidence in my purchases. He does not try to upsell me. He has also encouraged me to go through all frame stock he has lying around (in boxes under the tables)!
His prices are very fair, and he doesn’t sacrifice quality. What else can I say but…

Lars of North Berkeley Frame has helped me on numerous occasions and his service has always been wonderful. He has helped me to frame my photographs for display in exhibits and for sale in ways that saved me lots of money and he has been very sensitive to my budgetary constraints, helping me to get great looking, durable framing with archival mats for very reasonable costs. He will do very small jobs, such as inserting a print into a frame I bought elsewhere and adding a wire across the back of the frame, for very low cost. He charged $ 5 to do this, and another local framing shop told me I would need to pay them $ 50 for the same work. In addition, he has always been very personable and a pleasure to work with. I also enjoy the rotating exhibit of artwork on the walls of this shop.

I have been going to North Berkeley Frame for years, and I have never been disappointed with service, quality or framing advice.
