Oaktown Native Plant Nursery nurtures a diverse collection of local plant species from the Bay Area’s major ecological communities. Our retail nursery offers rare finds of garden-​worthy California native plants. Visit us on Friday or Saturday and we’ll happily share horticultural knowledge and landscape design tips to help you create an alluring habitat in your garden. Our demonstration garden on Channing Street displays mature examples of colorful, unique native plants that attract a lot of buzzzz.

For nearly ten years, we’ve specialized in contract growing for landscape and restoration projects including seed collection, cuttings and propagation. We work with landscape architects, restoration scientists and construction contractors to develop appropriate plant palettes for your project.

We stopped by oaktown to investigate planting natives in place of our lawn. We are so glad we did. Kristen put us in touch with Todd Gilens who designed the entire garden and Kristen got together all of the plants for us, even brokering out ones she didn’t have. I couldn’t be happier, the yard is beautiful!

My Go-​to nursery for native restorations and infill! Kristen is so very knowledgeable — I just ask. She contract grew a lovely whack of pickleweed that is thriving on the shoreline in SSF with intertidal plants she also grew and recommended. I look forward to more native installations so I can work with her again. I love to go pick up plant material so I can see what else is growing! Pricing is very good — not over the top as some native suppliers tend to be. Go Native!

What a hidden gem! My husband and I converted our lawn to a drought tolerant garden featuring mostly CA native plants. It took me a while to discover Oaktown Natives, but once I did, I found several species I was having a hard time finding elsewhere. We wound up getting half our plants for the project there. The owner was very informative and even tossed in a free annual each time we made a purchase. And to top it off, this place is simply beautiful and peaceful. I highly recommend visiting and supporting this business.

We went there recently because we needed some particular plants that Yerba Buena Nursery in Half Moon Bay did not have in stock. It is small but offers a great variety of annuals and perennials. They had exactly what we needed and the prices are quite reasonable given the fact some of these plants are DIFFICULT to locate. I did not catch her name but find the lady who wears glasses; I believe she is the Manager. She shared some facts about the plants which were really helpful when it came time to transplant them all into the ground. She’s very friendly. Will definitely return for more inventory.

Discovered this place through a fortuitous web search. I’m hot on the project of redoing my backyard in water wise California natives /​other drought tolerant plants, and this nursery had SO many of the plants that I was looking for. When I looked, the website inventory was up to date (and accurate!), which was really helpful in knowing whether it was worth the drive. Prices are great, there was tons of selection, and the staff was very patient and helpful as I kept dragging plants out, putting them back, and them choosing them again. HIGHLY recommended.

It’s not easy to get native plants that are local, so for several years I have appreciated Oaktown Native Plant Nursery for providing relevant plants to draw in the local wildlife.
Their plants are much more reliable for bringing «the buzz» to my garden… bugs, bees, butterflies, birds — much more so than native CA plants from Annie’s.
The staff are knowledgeable, helpful with all my questions, and provide interesting species to try throughout the year — at really reasonable prices.

We stumbled onto this place after eating at Viks, and what a great find! We were specifically looking for native plants to make terrariums (terraria?) for our wedding, and here was this nursery specializing in native plants! The people are super nice, and the prices are reasonable. The variety is pretty big, and near the entrance are bushes of golden poppies that looked so beautiful and mesmerizing. They also seem to do habitat restoration, which is super cool. The catch is that they only open 2 days a week, I think Friday and Saturday. For any need or interest in native plants, this is the place to go.
