Hand and upper extremity orthopaedic surgery
History
Established in 2015.
Dr. Yu originally opened her hand surgery practice in Berkeley in 2004. The practice was thriving and growing, but in 2011, personal circumstances and an unexpected opportunity led her to close her practice to work for Kaiser in Oakland/Richmond. For four years she worked for Kaiser, but it was clear that her talents were better suited for private practice. So when the old office on Colby Street opened up, she jumped at the chance to return to the community where she can better serve her patients. Her practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of upper extremity orthopaedic conditions in both children and adults.

Rebecca Y.
Business Owner
Dr. Yu was born in New York City and grew up in a Chinese-American home in Connecticut. She attended Stanford University, earning degrees in Art History and Biology, and went on to medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center on New York City’s west side before heading to Philadelphia for subspecialty fellowship training in Hand Surgery. Recognizing the privileges we have that are often taken for granted, including the use of 2 dextrous hands, Dr. Yu participates in overseas volunteer activities, offering care and treatment for conditions of the upper extremity to those who might not otherwise have access to such care. She also sponsors a fellowship to provide orthopaedic residents an opportunity to give back through volunteer work as well. She is eagerly looking forward to her next trip, and to taking her children with her in order to open their eyes to a bigger world.
