If you have a big butt, or are a size 14 or 16, or god forbid, a plus size, save yourself the humiliation. The largest size they have is a 32 inch, about a 12 for women. They weren’t unkind, but they were obviously surprised to see someone like me. I asked about men’s jeans fitting me, but after I stood there expectantly for a moment, and they made no move to the men’s stack, I left.
On the good side, if you are a tiny assed person, this is your place.

this is seriously the most OG spot in the east bay. Denim. Vintage 501s, 517s, big bells, little bells, and denim jackets galore. Both the basement and the upstairs are crazy packed with unique vintage denim fades and some newer brands like Courtshop (HOT pants). The upstairs also carries rad print tee’s and pins from local artists and new pendelton and ben davis (long live the monkey). The staff is super knowledgable and nice. The manager, Adriana has been there since I started shopping there, about 6 years or so, and just gets me. Always finds me the perfect pair and tells it to me straight if they don’t look good. There’s always killer tunes and good convo while I shop. Thanks ya’ll!!!

I love this shop! I went to the downstairs part with jeans only. Many, many jeans. I didn’t have any idea what to ask for, but the the sales lady asked my size, gave me a pair to try on, and they were PERFECT. I walked out wearing my new jeans within 15 minutes. So easy.

I really like this place. I went in today after curiosity got the best of me over the past year since moving to the area. I saw, «LEVI’S» on the neon sign and a pair of overalls in the window and knew I wanted to go in. Both employees I met were incredibly helpful and spend almost 45 minutes helping me go through a pile of jeans looking for a good fitting pair of 501’s. Unfortunately, I did not find a pair, but I’ll definitely come back and keep searching. The pricing is great for their vintage collection too, $ 65 – 55 for a good ol’ fashion pair of vintage Levi’s in excellent condition is a steal (even if they smell a bit musty.) You can’t even buy brand new ones for that price without getting some cheap looking wash and gigantic holes. They also have very inexpensive trucker jackets, which I know can cost upwards of $ 80 brand new. After reading other reviews, I’m definitely coming back here for a good jean fitting. The employees seemed very friendly and knowledgeable and I had a very pleasant experience.

i was out for a bike ride with my girlfriend, wasn’t planning on stopping anywhere, but we saw this place and had to stop in.
we didn’t have locks and they offered to let us bring both our bikes into the store, then spent 40 minutes helping us find and try on various styles – every pair fits differently, so it can be a lot of guess work to find great jeans – and they were patient and helpful beyond compare.
we each ended up buying 2 pair of jeans. prices were great too, the Nudie’s i got were half off and the Cheap Monday’s were also really well-​priced. i will absolutely be back.

One of my worst customer service experiences in under 5 minutes. The lady that works in the downstairs basement surplus section could only be described by words I shouldn’t say here. As soon as my husband and I rolled up with our stroller with our 9 month old she glared at us through the window. We didn’t bring our stroller in so I wasn’t sure what her problem was. Then my husband went in to ask for a pair of pants, he knew exactly what size and style he wanted. She looked through a bunch of pants and pulled out one and handed it to him. All of the interaction so far was terrible and rude. But since I can’t describe looks and attitude as well as words, I’ll just say that after he decided not to buy the pants she proceeded to say «Well next time you should come in when you know what you want so you don’t make such a mess!» Holy COW! I couldn’t believe my ears. I don’t know why I even tried on the pants that I had asked for since I knew I wasn’t going to buy them based off of my experience there. I have never heard such blatant disrespect in a customer service circumstance without cause! She was completely rude and could have cared less whether we were gonna buy or not. Which we didn’t because of her. Levi’s are my husbands favorite pants and we live down the street from her, too bad we won’t return to this conveniently located store due to attitude issues. If you don’t care if a person is nice, then sure, go and get your pants. Just don’t expect a «hello!» or «how are you?» because you will surely only be met with glares and rude, short responses.

I wish price tags were available on the items. Found out only when checking out that the shirt I thought was under $ 20 was actually $ 125. Small shop that focuses only on denim, and looks to be very good at that.

The upstairs part of Slash, reached from College Street up some stairs, offers a poor customer experience. Very unwelcoming vibe, and condescending salespeople. I felt so unwelcome and was glared at while I looked around so I got out before checking out any of the merchandise. Stick to the downstairs. I hope that wonderful older woman still works there.

This place has very nice jeans!!! At a very nice price!!! :) people are very friendly and very helpful. There is a small downstairs part of the store that has lots of old and new jeans as well. If your looking for black jeans this is the place to go. Check it out!

This store is amazing, and sometimes I can’t believe there aren’t more stores like this. The staff is so knowledgeable, and they can really help you pick out your jeans. For people who have a hard time shopping for jeans, Slash is the place to go since you know your getting your money’s worth, you’ll get some great tips on how to take care of your jeans, and you’ll look great in them too. Sure, some of the jeans might seem a bit pricey, but decent jeans are very hard to come by, and I’ve ruined department store jeans faster because they were of cheaper quality. The store also does alterations for $ 10 if you’re interested, and they’ll let you know when to pick them up.

Short version: if you want denim that fits, go here.

I normally take a couple years to find a pair of jeans that really fit well (I have large thighs/​seat from weightlifting but thin waste), took 20 minutes here.

The two women who work here are fantastic. They really provide a personal touch.
I first came here after seeing other Unilocal reviews. I was tired of picking up Levis from Macy’s that sort of fit, but didn’t quite. I needed a sort of consultation to pick out jeans that would be really flattering. And that’s exactly what I got.
The two women who work here will first try to understand exactly what your needs are. What colors do you want? What washes do you want? What sort of fit do you like? How much are you willing to spend? They’ll then whisk off and come back with 5 or 6 pairs of jeans for you to try on. The times I’ve gone there, the store hasn’t been terribly busy, so they can help evaluate your look when you come out of the dressing room.
They have jeans from all over the world, and often times, things are on great sales.

I’m kind of a physical anomaly: I’ve got a relatively short torso and I’ve got long, lean, muscular legs. So when it comes to buying jeans, I’ve got issues.
Most manufacturers make jeans for the average white male. That is, the average height pale-​faced man shorter legs and a longer torso. Levis built their brand around that sizing strategy.
So when I need help slipping into a pair of stylish denim that matches my model-​like form, I go to slash. They are patient, helpful and flattering. I always walk out with a lighter wallet but a bit more pep in my step.

The friendly folks at Slash (hi, Emily) were great, and hooked me up with just the right jeans for the date — not hipster tight, and definitely not dad jeans. Fit just right, and I had several to choose from.

When I first moved to Berkeley I loved Slash because I could get Sta-​Prest Levis. As a kid I always though sta-​prest were the height of 60s fashion and finally I was living it! Then I was super happy when they started carrying the (then) new Girl Dickies. I was anti-​denim at the time, so this was big.
But they cured my of my anti-​demin leanings. Now I’m a huge fan. I mostly go upstairs, but they make sure you buy jeans that are what you’re looking for and look good on you. The first time I walked in, I said «I need jeans, but I don’t want to look like I’m wearing mom-​jeans.» Not only did Julie tell me that I wouldn’t look like I’m wearing mom-​jeans, how mom-​jeans fit and what to look for and avoid.
No I trust her implicitly with all my pants buying decisions. Super skinny, straight legged, something in between. They all look good when the people at Slash help me find the right fit.

I’m reviewing the downstairs part since I didn’t get anything upstairs. But yeah I love it.
It’s like a post apocalyptic future where people build bunkers out of stacks and stacks of jeans and use them for both currency, housing, and warmth. It’s pretty insane but I totally like the way it’s insane.

Everything they say is true. My sister and my husband agree. Won’t buy jeans anywhere else ever again, and this is from someone who would normally say the new prices are too high — but the service and the fits RULE! Husband likes the downstairs stuff around the corner.

There is a certain emotion associated with getting a pair of amazing jeans that doesn’t apply to any other clothing purchase. Excitement because it’s damn hard to find a great staple and relief because your search is temporarily over. Over the years, I’ve tried countless brands and have some real favorites but like a true shopaholic, I could always use some more.
I’ve come into Slash a few times. Denim everywhere. I’m always pleasantly surprised by the offerings jeans wise. Many washes and styles. The upstairs has your classic denim shop presentation, the downstairs is a jungle of amazing finds. From what I’ve seen, they carry Cheap Mondays, Levi’s, Nudie, Naked & Famous, and Kill City. I’m definitely missing more brands but that gives you an idea of the price range.
I’m extremely picky about jeans. I can be ultra choosy about pocket design and color but above all, there is one major concern of mine. Being six feet tall, proper length is key. The ultimate must beyond superb fit is to avoid Urkel-​ing it out. Flooding is not cute. Slash caters to many sizes and heights, not just short legged, ultra petite ones. I sincerely appreciate it.
If you’re the type that loves shopping assistance, Slash will hook you up and not smother you to death in the process. The salespeople are denim wizards and size people up just by appearance. If you come in with an idea of what you want and a rough budget, they’ll hold your hand all the way until you leave with a big grin and a hefty shopping bag. I personally hate being helped so this wasn’t a thrill for me but I can imagine a lot of people would love being attended to.
Aside from jeans, they also carry an array of shirts, jackets, belts, jewelry, and more. This is also the perfect place to do a little shopping with men. It’s not frou frou and you’ll find something for the both of you!

Awesome. I’m super-​picky about jeans. I dislike a lot of the major brands and find retail stores generally impossible to deal with. I headed to Slash after getting tired of searching for jeans at thrift stores.
They immediately asked if I needed help. I showed them my current jeans and gave them a few notes on what I wanted different. The first pair they selected looked bad, and they agreed. The second pair were awesome, just what I’ve been looking for. I bought 3!
The prices for jeans are as expected for new, nice jeans. The shirt I also picked up was a little expensive, so you might want to stick to jeans.
Seriously, so nice to be in and out in 30 minutes with 3 jeans I actually like! I will definitely be back.

I love Slash. When I lived in the Bay, I never wanted to spend $ 40+ on jeans, because I had no idea how important fit was (I was a bit sloppy, to be sure, and I thought it was normal for people shaped like me to never have jeans that properly fit). I insisted to shopping at Old Navy, and then bought jeans on sale at the Gap, until finally, I left the Bay area and realized that, not only was it imperative to look like an adult, but I would have to give up jeans forever and wear slacks and skirts until I found jeans that properly fit.
So I tried jeans at Forever 21, which surprisingly fit, at least until I’d worn them for two weeks, and then they would stretch in unappealing ways and sag just like the others. The icing on the cake was that after a month and a half of wearing, they would rip in the inner thigh (which is not sexy, contrary to popular belief). For $ 10 though, I was willing to keep replacing them, since they fit, albeit for short periods of time. My entire first year in NYC was spent at Forever 21, looking for jeans, buying multiple pairs, and hoping for the best. I must have purchased about 10 pairs of jeans over the course of a year. I would have been better off finding a few good pairs to last the entire year, and would have wasted less time.
Enter Slash. I came in and told the owner just how much trouble I had finding jeans that fit, and after trying on about 8 pairs, came away with two pairs of jeans that fit really well! It turns out that jeans for me are supposed to fit around the waist, regardless of how much wider my hips are (because the jeans will stretch!). I tried on jeans several sizes smaller than my usual size, and they aren’t loose at the back. They don’t slide down when I sit. These jeans are perfect, and worth the $ 48 price tag (including tax).
If you’re buying cheap jeans that don’t fit, just to save money, pay a little extra for someone to help you find something that fits and lasts. Come to Slash, and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

They really deliver! Thank you guys for making a shopping trip with a cousin in town that sounded like it would be daunting that much easier by taking a look at her, asking what she wanted, and pulling 2 pairs of jeans out for sizing– Amazingly, these are the very two pairs she ended up buying, along with a simple and groovy leather belt to match both pairs.
Basically we were in and out of there in 15 minutes, thanks to the sales gals’ help, and my cousin’s decisiveness.
The belt was a lovely all leather number made in Canada. I will have to go back myself and get a new pair of Dish jeans, a new favorite brand of mine, and Okay, maybe one of those sweet belts. I do confess I like to go to Nordstroms’ Rack for designer denim deals, but at these prices, it’s very easy to conceive of shopping at Slash for years to come.
