History

Established in 1977.

Founded in Berkeley, California in 1977 by Karel F. Wessel and Thomas W. Livingston (who has a PhD in history from Columbia University and was formerly on the faculty of the University of California), relocated the business to San Francisco in 1989. In 2009, they moved back to Berkeley where they originally began their business. Wessel concentrates on Continental antiques and is especially interested in Delftware, a specialty of the shop. Livingston, whose taste is eclectic, is most interested and most knowledgeable about American furniture. «When I buy a piece,» Livingston continues, «I ask myself ‘would I put it in my own home.»

Wessel and Livingston are members of the Antique Dealers Association of California, the Jackson Square Art and Antiques Dealers Association, and the American Decorative Arts Forum of Northern California. They are also among the original exhibitors of the San Francisco Fall Antiques Show.
