History

Established in 2003.

It all started when Suzie McKig & Serge Vigeant longed to reassert their passion for design – this time, together.

After completing a run of ardent studies at Art Center College of Design, Suzie (Twig) launched her own graphic design firm in L.A. focusing on entertainment, fashion, cosmetic & boutique perfumerie clients. Serge (Fig) ran a vigorously active product design company in Montréal.

Fate brought them together when Twig ordered a product from Fig’s company. Even 3000 miles apart, true love ensued.

Before long, Serge joined Suzie’s graphic design team, they moved to the Bay Area, and the union initiated big change. They bought their first letterpress machine in an old barn in Napa. Romance drove his presses and fueled her designs. Soon, their first wedding collection came to fruition. As did the praises.

And there you have it. Suzie’s gusto for paper and design hitched with Serge’s fire for precision and old-​world printing blossomed into something entirely fresh. Twig & Fig.

Letterpress stores are my favorite. These high quality, labor intensive, often quirky cards are among my favorite ways to say Happy Birthday, or a simple thank you.
This shop had an abundance of these cards, along with calligraphy supplies, and various notepads. It’s a small shop, but the custom letterpress workshop appears to be adjacent. It’s definitely going on the list of available card shops for when the time comes.

I love stationary, fountain pens, typography and anything related to the above. Most of the time, the products that I’m looking for I am forced to buy online or in Asia, since they are not stocked at conventional American retailers. What really stands out about Twig & Fig is they stock a lot of products that are otherwise hard to find in brick and mortar stores — for example, Rhodia notepads, Tomoe River Paper, Mnemosyne notebooks, J. Herbin ink, animal shaped sticky notes and so much more. Even better, they stock these products at a reasonable price. Don’t be fooled by the posh looking interior. For example the Mnemosyne notebooks and J. Herbin inks are ~20% cheaper than on JetPens, and you can take it home right away!
I would not come here to buy a fountain pen, but for ink, paper, calligraphy nibs, definitely stop by.

This place was extremely… strange. I read Unilocal reviews saying how wonderful it was, so when I happened to be in Berkeley last weekend, I stopped in. Sure, the store is cute, but they don’t really sell anything! They had a couple of little notebooks, a few cards, some scattered random stationery products, and that was all. They have a decent buyer– the quality of the products was good, but absolutely no selection! It really wasn’t that fun to browse in and I ended up exhausting the entire store within 5 minutes, without purchasing anything. I’ve seen everything they sell at stationery stores in San Francisco, so it was absolutely nothing special.

I’m a stationary fiend so I absolutely love this place. I came in just to have a browse and the lady began to tell me all about how it’s National Letterwriting Month and showed me her collection of cards she was writing and we had a chat. When the staff of a place seems so happy to be working there, it’s generally a promising sign.
I love the collection of things they have there. From the journals to the tree bark stationary to WAX STICKS with initial stamps so you can make your letters extra baller. Really a charming little shop with so much potential.
I do hope letterwriting as an art and form of communication makes a comeback. It’s so beautiful and necessary. Store like Twig and Fig make it a novelty that’s actually cool. And I support that cause!

I can’t give this place enough love. The four walls of this little shoppe contain so many whimsical treats for the senses: letterpress prints, paper soft as fabric, perfectly stiff greeting cards, vintage-​style fields notes, signature fountain pens, buttery leather pouches, woodsmoke-​scented candles, printed kitchen cloth, jars of pickles and flavored honey… so many delightful things to explore!!!
Highly recommended for buying the prefect gift or treating yourself. They also offer customized business card and wedding card invitations.
Sweetest service ever. My cashier actually helped name one of the prints that I bought – love that the employees are so invested in making the experience unique.

Twig and Fig is a magical place. We worked with Stephanie on all of our wedding stationery — including save the dates, invitations, thank you cards, day of sings, escort cards, and more! She was fantastic and wonderful to work with.
We walked in with a really low budget and Stephanie was patient and attentive. We ended up shifting our budget around and tripled our stationary budget. They’re that good and they’re worth every single penny.
They do extremely high quality of work. They can do anything. We saw birthday invitations they were creating for a big named millionaire that included a wood plank, stamped metal seal, and they were awesome!
Our own wedding theme was the 1920s and some of the fun details we had included a textured envelope, letterpressed paper, and envelopes from England.
We’ve had dozens and dozens of people compliment us on our wedding stationery and quite a few people said that it was the best they’ve ever seen. All thanks to Twig and Fig!

Twig and Fig is flat out marvelous. I wander in here and sort of bask in the ritzy-​ness of it all. As cheesy as it may sound, coming here makes me think about Pablo Neruda claiming that writing with a pen to paper reestablished his deep intimacy with poetry. Back in high school, I came here for the first time and bought a couple journals that I have since filled with songs. Whenever I feel like I’m in a creative rut, I return and inspire myself with some new writing utensils.
To this day, I know few ways to express gratitude that can compete with a handwritten note. Luckily, they have an elegant selection of merchandise — assorted paper goods, special occasion cards, stationery, stickers, rubber stamps, and many other luxurious things. The cards they sell aren’t your run of the mill Hallmark crap, they are artisan printed, one of a kind items. Making purchases in this fancy shop may set me back a few more bills than anticipated but if it’s going to put a smile on someone’s face, I just go for it.
In the past, friends of mine have used their services to create distinctive and customized invitations for baby showers, weddings, and other big milestones. Gasp. Those wedding invitations! If you’re planning on tying the knot, you’d be a fool not to throw their hat in the ring. So many possibilities but the thread that connects them all is that they are jaw dropping. Note to self, they also do business cards.
For the most part, the staff are kind and keen to point you in the right direction if you have something particular in mind. If you have a special announcement to make, they schedule consultations and get to know you, collaborating on your project from A to Z. I can’t think of a better place to go.
Hopeless romantics, bridezillas, moody poets, old timers, paper snobs, and penmanship fanatics unite for the love of Twig and Fig.

I love Twig & Fig!
Whenever I am in the area I make sure to stop on by and buy a handful of cards. They’re good to have on hand and I love giving these «one-​of-​a-​kind» cards to people. The cards are quirky, funny and beautifully printed. There’s a small selection of lovely writing journals. I hope one day I get to have an occasion where I’ll be able to utilize their printing services.

Stephanie designed our wedding invites at Twig and Fig and I couldn’t ask for a more amazing, talented individual to work with. I love love love our invites. She had great ideas and executed them perfectly. She made the design process so easy for us, listened to our changes, worked with us on costs to keep everything within our budget and made our invites so beautiful. I am so excited to ship them out to family and friends. I would highly recommend using twig and fig for your wedding invitations and if you can get Stephanie you are in for pure joy. You can’t go wrong here if you are looking for drop dead gorgeous invites!

I’ve been looking for a classy pen for a while and we visited Twig & Fig to look at their selection.
The young lass in the shop was pleasant, but not sufficiently knowledgeable about the products to answer our questions and could only read from the labels. We could do that ourselves.
I was interested in one pen and we said we’d buy it, but the only pen in stock was the sample and no refills in the store.
The store needs to have more than pretty merchandise to compete with online sales.

A beautiful paper store near Berkley campus, Twig & Fig is a cute stop for greeting cards, stationery gifts, and other writing knick knacks for paper lovers.
I am super crazy about letterpress and Twig & Fig had great selections to choose from with cards ranging from $ 5+ each. It’s the average pricing for a single letterpressed card so I wasn’t too surprised by the cost. They offer custom letterpress invitations, business cards, etc which you can see in their next room being pressed by their Heidlberg machine. It’s a cool thing to see! An old printing technique still being done today!
The place is small but roomy and the service is very kind.

Our wedding planner suggested Twig and Fig for our day of stationary for our wedding (menus, signage, escort cards, etc) We met with them late one night (they stayed open late for us, a plus in my book) They had some amazing examples, totally fun and funky and different. If I was planning a wedding every year I would start here to get a fun «theme.» But alas… we are only having one wedding, and our «theme» was very traditional, very script-​y and scroll-​y. I was a little worried after our first meeting, if they were going to be able to back away from the «out of the box» and go directly «in the box» (in a good way!!!) And they delivered!
We did some amazing book programs, they looked just like real books! All with amazing paper and printing and colors. We also had acrylic menus, that were amazing and even though I thought they were not very traditional they went perfectly with our wedding table schemes. They did amazing acrylic place cards with little designs on them to match the table names. We had menus at the bars with amazing mirror frames. It all looked great. We highly recommend Suzie and Twig and Fig. It is pricy but very worth it!

I went to my chamber last night, guided by the light of the flickering candle, and as the wax dripped down the brass holder and onto my leg o’mutton sleeves I ruminated, «what news have I to tell my love!»
I sat at my desk and dipped my feather into ink — this would for certain be the most deliriously romantic letter of all! But oh! A knock at the door. Fair Walter had come to request an evening with me by the fireside. I obliged him all the while knowing his sinister intentions. His busy conversation deterred me from writing and with little time to spare, I knew I’d have to make haste lest my love depart for the foreign lands of Korea without knowledge of my devotion.
So on my penny-​farthing I hopped and hurried through town to Twig & Fig, the local letterpress. I, Mathilda, would certainly know quality when it struck my eye. Hand-​pressed cards and stationary abound, inks, pens, journals! What a glorious selection! Lost within the dizzying yet finely curated arrangement of goods my eyes finally settled upon the glistening image of my love. On the front of a wooden card shone the brimming image of none other than Rico Suave. And so it was settled.
It was a meeting of divine inspiration and artistic talent. I drew a stallion and below it the words: «I would sing you a love song, but I’m a little horse.»

I only stopped in once but as a stationary fan it charmed me. The store isn’t big and the selection isn’t a high point yet they do carry a lot of unique products you can’t find at any other store… other than the Internet. You can either buy a thank you card for $ 4 or a pen for $ 360. I’m not really sure why people are complaining about the prices. This is a high end stationary store. It’s not trying to be a Target or Hallmark store. Judge it for what it is. That being said, I didn’t buy anything. I’m not entirely sure how long they will stay in business yet I’m pretty sure there’s an audience for this type of thing.
They also have custom letterpress services. You can even see the letterpress through the window. I’m not so sure about the quality so you’ll have to take your chances.

The art on the cards are unique to Twig & Fig, so much so, that I believe the card my bf got for me on my birthday was inspired by «us».
Through out the years I have spent hours here figuring out which special card best represnts my sentiments and I have always recieved compliments from my friends and family. Its worth spending a little extra.

Super cute, artsy, independent store. Came here to get my brother a bday card and instantly fell in love with the cards, planners, and other cutesy knick-​knacks. It’s like having a little etsy store in your neighborhood! I could spend so much money at this gem, makes me really want to start letterpressing/​screen printing as a hobby.
Favorite item: woodgrain veneer cards, lust lust lust!
