Q? Why did you start your business?

In 1992, TSWHA published a three line ad in the classified section of The Kensington Outlook. To this day, the original ad greets this community, not less than, ten issues each year. Reflective of the times, an email address keeps TSWHA contact friendly. two_strongwomen@yahoo.com TSWHA has been eco-friendly since birth. A large part of our success as a green-hauling service is the dedication of our «conscious» client-base. Most clients are willing to spend a little bit more; enabling TSWHA to recycle, to donate, to resolve each truck-load, in ways that minimize the landfill, rather then expand.

When I read the existing reviews, this business is one I want to love — social justice, pro-woman, earth-friendly. But my experience wasn’t quite the same. Something I should clarify is that Leslie seems to keep the items she hauls, to make a second profit by selling them. I had ten boxes for Goodwill, and she had them taken from my car to hers — I’m moving cross-country, and needed to downsize. It only became apparent to me halfway through that charity would only get it once she’d made money. The thing is, if she plans to use my clothes, shoes, kitchen supplies to resell for a profit, isn’t charging for the haul slightly erroneous? I guess I assumed I was hiring to haul, not to pay someone to acquire my gently used items…
This is just to clarify Leslie’s business. My stuff will certainly go to a good home, and she is a very caring, engaging woman with a huge heart. I just found it to be expensive and perhaps not something I’d do again.

Two Strong Women saved me. It was moving day, we’d hauled everything out of the house, and suddenly the snotty antique dealer changed her mind about all the stuff she’d committed to take, leaving me with a street full of antiques.
Two Strong Women helped me load my truck with everything I wanted to keep. Then Leslie took stuff to consignment, to goodwill, to Urban Ore, and then to the dump for me, making sure everything that was reusable got sold, donated, salvaged. She was careful, clean, and thorough, even making sure I had the tax-deductible receipts afterwards.

What a great service! It was so nice to have my old boxspring hauled away and taken to the dump. I was dreading the logistics of doing this by myself… no car, i’m quite petite, and new to the area. Eek! I probably would have left it in my studio apt for months before I did anything about it! They were prompt, honest and reliable. I would definitely hire TSWHA again.

We were quoted $ 125 for a small-medium load or $ 350 for a large (half-ton) load. I described what we had to be hauled and was told they should be able to do it in a medium load for about $ 125.
I was shocked when they arrived in a MINI TRUCK the same size as mine. My truck is a ¼-ton. WE WOULD NOT HAVE HIRED THEM IF THEY HAD DISCLOSED THAT THEY HAD A MINI TRUCK (a Nissan Frontier). I would have used my own truck. Duh.
But they’re there, so we went ahead with it. We walked through the yard and discussed the load. Leslie says it is much more than she thought. I am still thinking they are taking all of our refuse, so I don’t pay any mind to what they load and don’t load. That was my fatal error. They loaded up the light stuff and left the heavy stuff.
When the truck was full, I was then told that they only got half of the stuff. And I was then told that they considered what was in the truck a large load (half-ton). They charged me $ 300 for half of our refuse (THE LIGHT HALF) and scheduled a return appointment for another day for another $ 300.
With their stated costs of dump fee excluded, we had paid 2 people (NOT TWO WOMEN, by the way) $ 300 for 4 hours of work plus the dump fees — roughly $ 30/hour per person and the additional fees.
We canceled the follow-up appointment as we had already spent more than their high quote and were still stuck with half of our debris (much more than half by weight). Leslie would not communicate with my partner WHO HIRED HER, but would only e-mail me; I DID NOT HIRE HER, AND IT WAS NOT MY MONEY.
Now, six month later, I find out that she is badmouthing us in my community, saying (I am quoting the person who referred her to us) «my hauling people … let me know that a referral from this list serve last year cheated my referral out of money.»
I can’t imagine how Leslie could possibly construe that we cheated her out of money when we PAID HER MORE THAN TWICE WHAT SHE QUOTED for LESS THAN HALF THE JOB SHE AGREED TO DO.
My advice to Leslie would be that she not make quotes sight unseen if she does not plan to honor them.
My advice to you would be to avoid this «business» unless you like paying for services you do not receive and unless you like being badmouthed in your own community.

Leslie and Doc are live savers! These folks rock and can help you with some of the guilt of having collected too much stuff by dropping off what they can at charity and recycling centers before taking what is hopeless to the dump. They also have an amazing sense physics — their packed up truck was a thing of masterly balanced sculptural beauty. Lastly, the prices are quite reasonable given the service. If we had known about them when we first moved into our house, we probably would have purged much sooner.

About a year ago my husband and I had to help my father evict the tenant from his rental property. My father had not been inside this property for YEARS. We had no idea what to expect. It was bad, really bad. I mean there was stuff piled waist high from one end of the house to the other. The back yard was even worse. It was totally overwhelming. We called Leslie from Two Strong Women. She was willing to work with us on the project in a collaborative fashion. My husband did a lot of the work and Leslie did what he did not have time for or the patience to do. She was fabulous. This was a huge job and we could not do it all ourselves. She knew the ropes of this type of project. She knew what we had to do to dispose of or recycle the many many different catagories of items. She knew where, how and when. She helped us to remove an enormous amount of stuff in the most environmentally conscious manner. Thank you Leslie!

I have been a customer of 2SWHA through 2 homes and much accumulation of detritus. They have always come and removed that detritus with a smile and have always gotten rid of it in the most earth-friendly fashion. If the item can be reused — they donate it to the right place. If it can be recycled — they make sure it happens. Only when there are no other options does it end up in the landfill.
Leslie and her helpers (husband, son, daughter — others?) are always very friendly and professional and they do great work.
