2 bartenders for Beat the Clock with only one beer working on tap. Waited 20 minutes to order a pitcher and never got helped. For the one day of the week that you guys get real business, you failed. Ive been back and nothings been significantly better. Hope after they remodel they bring in better management

Game Day, Beat the Clock, Happy Hour – the campus bar formerly(and still currently) known as the Bear’s Lair delivers with its cliché collegiate atmosphere, but the hit-and-miss food wouldn’t meet Oski’s standards. The breakdown: Food: I went to Wing Fiesta expecting exactly that – a WINGFIESTA. My 20-piece boneless wing to-go order, however, left me to do a lot of the work; rather than coating the wings in the BBQ and spicy sauce themselves, the cooks simply rubbed down the wings and threw sauce containers into the bag. That being said, the dunking sauces were tasty, and my order of Cajun fries was addictively delicious. Waiting for my order, I ran into a friend who mentioned that the bar tender advised him to stay away from the pizza. Though I didn’t get to try it, it can never be a good thing when employees are steering patrons away from certain orders. Maybe they should focus on perfecting their wings before moving into the pizza business. Otherwise, the bar provides a thorough selection of beers and could provide for any Cal alumna/PMD(post-midterm depression) student barfly. Atmosphere: One word comes to mind when you walk into this place: FRAT. That permeating smell of hops, the overly sticky floor attempting to rid you of your shoes in one fell swoop… the Bear’s Lair provides you the gritty collegiate ambiance without worrying about being hazed in the basement with a goat. I would never choose to sit down inside to enjoy the food or drink. Sure, sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender may be for some folks, and an afternoon beer on the tables outside may be pleasant on a sunny day. Still, unless you are game for Beat the Clock festivities, go enjoy the the food & drink elsewhere. Service: Aside from the bartender, two guys were running the joint. The one who took my order clearly had insufficient knowledge on the process and may have been new to waiting on customers(how don’t you know which receipt the customer signs on a debit charge?) The two didn’t seem to enjoy their job or take it seriously; they took too long to get me the order and forgot to pack it to-go. Very sub-par service. Take it from Me: Get the wings to-go, and do NOT miss out on the Cajun fries. If you’re into the college drinking scene, attend Beat the Clock before your four(or five… or six…) years as an undergraduate are over. Otherwise, no red shirts allowed and GOBEARS!

«What did you guys do to this?» «Nothing.» Don’t come to Wing Fiesta if you’re gullible or drunk — you may end up eating super oily or spicy wings because your friends are so awesome. Back to the wings, don’t get the Lemon Pepper ones, as there was a puddle of oil-lemon dripping below, possibly mixed with«spilled» beer.(We love our gullible friend!) The BBQ flavor was tangy, and the Original Spicy was a good sour buffalo flavor. The Cajun Fries had plenty of cajun spices to burn the tongue. Prices vary between $ 5 – 20 depending on the number and the type — boneless chunks, actual wings, or tender strips.

YUCK… my family owns a wing shop in Utah and this doesn’t even compare… I couldn’t even eat a whole wing so gross.

This review is for their Gilroy fries(garlic sauce over fries). The messy yet delicious concoction is the first thing I eyed on the menu and have fallen in love with it. All of my co-workers love it as well when I offered some to them. Can’t go wrong with Gilroy fries or the cajun fries. Wing Fiesta also caters and the boneless chicken nuggets were awesome. The sweet chili sauce is perfect with the white meat! Ranch dressing too.

So The Bear’s Lair Pub has opened back up with a few changes. The sign in the window says, «Wing Fiesta» and they will be serving, not surprisingly, wings, along with ribs, chicken strips, and various french fry based creations. Based on the glowing reviews of the product at the Hayward location this is good news. A good selection of all your favorite beers is already being served up by a typically fun and helpful Bear’s Lair quality staff. They have the Wi-Fi to let me write this review for them and are advertising $ 4 drafts on the chalk sign. I am really glad to see the Lair open again and can’t wait to try their new menu. I will update when it becomes available in a couple weeks.
