Specialties
Matrix Clothes to the Heart is a boutique resale shop selling donated new and gently used fashionable women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, purses, accessories and decorative household items. We are NOT a for profit entity or a consignment shop, all of the proceeds from sales fund Matrix Human Service programs that help educate children, support families and strengthen neighborhoods in the city of Detroit. Our twin managers, Patty and Kathy, offer you a personal shopping experience, they can help you put together an ensemble for a special event, work, vacation or find a special item to add to your wardrobe or your home or if you prefer explore our merchandise on your own. Come visit our updated and re-stocked shop formerly the Bargain Counter North.
History
Established in 1968.
The League of Catholic Women opened the Bargain Counter North resale shop in this location in 1968. While other stores in the Metro Detroit area operated by the League eventually closed, this location run by Peggy Walker and a team of dedicated volunteers continued to thrive through the transition of the agency to Matrix Human Services. In 2013 declining sales, donations and the number of volunteers required a new business plan. Matrix closed the store in September, 2013 for remodeling and re-opened in January, 2014 with a new look, new store managers, upgraded merchandise and dedicated former and new volunteers.
