History
Established in 1991.
Like the movie ‘Field of Dreams’ CATSPASzzz/CATNAPSzzz was designed with the notion «if we build it, they will come». Unsatisfied with all other options available for boarding our own little ones, we first imagined, then designed and finally built a Feline-Only Hotel that would provide the highest quality care, attention to detail and FUN for cats while offering solid reassurance to customers that, finally, they could «take a vacation instead of a guilt trip.» Tens of thousands of customers and return visits later, we continue to do exactly that; and still enjoy it as much as the day we first opened!
Meet the Business Owner
Kathleen H.
Business Owner
Lifetime passion for animals. Critter friends have included everything from rats, gerbils and mice to fresh and salt water fish and dogs, cats, horses, parrots and even a very beloved full size pig. Considered pursuing veterinary medicine: tuition prohibitive. Followed 2nd love: writing and worked as newspaper & magazine journalist/editor until opening CATNAPSzzz, which rapidly required ALL my time, plus my husband’s plus that of additional staff within a year. Based on same concept, ethics, principles and protocols, created BOWSERSzzz in 2004. Working under our animal welfare charity, SNIP, and in conjuction with The Humane Society International, we spearheaded a four-year S/N/R program model for stray and roaming dogs (Potcakes) on the island of Abaco in the Bahamas (2000 – 2004); the program became the centerpiece of the Humane Society International’s «Island Nations Project» at its Annual Conference in 2004.
