While low priced sometimes means a bargain, you might expect better food but that’s not the case at Phil’s Famous Pizza and Steaks. Calling yourself famous means you would expect something with wow factor. The calzone I ordered was flavorless and while huge, I was not interested in eating the other half as it just felt like I was plowing through cardboard with melted cheese. My wife’s cheesesteak was overly salty and hardly had any cheese on it. For someone to pride themselves on a Philly cheesesteak, this is probably the worst one I’ve ever tasted. My son’s hamburger came with nothing on it and was clearly a frozen processed patty, nothing to write home about. The lettuce in the salad looked gross and past its prime. If you get anything in here, make sure it’s made in the fryers as the fries were the only thing that seemed decent. From the calling in to the less than enthused guy on the phone to the subpar food quality it is safe to say I’ll never be eating here again.

The pizza and pasta are awesome. It’s great that you can bring in some wine. I will say that some employees need to be less grumpy but what the hell the food makes up for it.

Went here tonight for the first time and the pizza is awesome! Totally our new pizza place! As far as the service… you people are hypersensitive! The guy that takes the orders is just a «dry» guy not rude! I almost didn’t go here because I hold establishments to the same standards for their food and service, after reading these I didn’t want to deal with a rude place. I’m glad I went! Really great food and the service was fine! He wasn’t bubbly and gushing with joy by any means. Pretty much just took my order and money but was not rude. Then a really sweet lady brought it out to the table with a smile! You cry babies need thicker skin. To everyone that hasn’t tried go make your own opinion! No matter what you’ll love your food ;)

I’m taking away one star for grumpiness… otherwise really good pizza and great chicken cheese steaks. Been to Phils about a dozen times and each and every time the person at the front register seems miserable(bar one time). Life cannot be that bad, can it? I’ve tried about 8 or so Main Line Pizza joints since moving here, Phils is the overall best. Quick run-down of few Main Line Pizza shops: 1.) Anthony’s Brick Oven Pizza: Amazing brick over stlye pizza, but my kids don’t like it because the pizza has a sort of burnt, charcol flavor from the oven… wings are amazing too. Would go here more often if only the kids liked it. 2.) Main Line Pizza: Greek Style Pizza, little greasy, overall good. Hogies decent. However pricey for what you get. 3.) Jules Pizza: We really do like Jules, problem is, it isn’t an every Friday type pizza. Too Fru-Fru for every week. And you’re still hungry after eating a half of pizza by yourself! 4.) Pie in the Sky: Pass, Meh 5.) Paola’s: I really wanted to love this place and make it our every Friday for the family, and the owners are super, super nice. Pizza was decent, not amazing. Crust a little dry. Hogies and Steaks very solild. However, the thing that makes this place a no-go for us is awful location. Try picking up a pizza on Friday at 6pm, parking is brutal and the area is jammed with people and cars… I think the owners should consider curb-side pick-up. 6.) Peace of Pizza: Again, just average. Not bad, but nothing I’d want to keep going back to. The very best pizza in the Philly-Burbs is Italian Delight in Broomall. Little too far for Main Liners, but if you’re in the area, order the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and prepare for heaven…

I have to agree with a lot of these posts. I work about 2 mins from here and do occasionally come for the 5 $ 2 slices and a soda. I do enjoy the pizza, but the staff is just miserable. I’ve never seen any of them smile. Also too hot inside. Needs all new staff!

Dude, don’t be cheap with your soda!!! $ 2 for a baby size 8 oz cup that is only refillable once is bull crap! Have been there twice, and it was horrible. Pizza Crust was crap, sauce more like tomato paste, cheese lame. Other time the cheese steak was pretty good, nothing special though. Not my kind of place.

wow what a horrible way to start a Sunday morning. I drove by saw the door open, walked in, asked if they were open and ordered an upside down pizza, paid for it and sat down at 11:25 to wait. All of a sudden the owner comes storming through the shop and yells«The pizza won’t be ready until 12:15. I said I would be back at 12;15 and that they should not open their door until they are open He proceeded to yell, don’t you read the time we open??? It’s hot in here we have to open the door. The ovens are not even on??? I asked if he wanted me to come back and he yelled again that is up to you. clearly this man does not care about his business… the shame is that the pizza is good, but Bravimissimo and Berwyn Pizza are a bit better. Will NEVER set foot in this place ever again and intend to pass it along to all my friends in Devon, Berwyn and Paoli.

The pizza is the best but the staff is so rude that I won’t go there anymore. We were regular customers for over 10 years.

Decided to try this place again and order for pick up, The staff is still surly BUT i did try the upside down pie and have to say it was very good. had it twice recently. still low score for the service and dont even TRY and get delivery… they will yell at you and tell you how long it will take as if to suggest that delevery is not a good option! But the upside down is worth the gruff service and having to go pick it up.

Phil’s is definitely famous… for the most miserable workers in the world. I don’t get it, they are so miserable and rude. I ordered baked ziti, and I asked for cheese on top, and the guy said«well, we do it the way we do it.» I said oooookay, I guess I’ll have it the way you do it. Brutal. Just brutal.

Ordered with peppers onion and sausage. What did I get. Sausage a few onions on 2 slices and pepperoni. Called and spoke to the owner phil. Got a new pizza what I ordered just soggy and not cooked thru. So sad. I ordered the same pizza before. Someone has an issue with the p word. It’s a shame. No one can get it right the 1st time.

Finally found a pizza place that is great. The staff is always nice and makes you feel like family. Reasonable prices and lots to choose from. A good pizza takes time so expect a little wait but worth it.

We recently moved to the area and were pleasantly surprised with Phil’s. Chicken cheese steak was absolutely delicious and the pizza was good too. Delivery was timely. Much better than the other pizza places in Berwyn we have tried.

My small office often orders lunch on Fridays and we have officially blacklisted this pizza place. Two previous orders of a few pizzas took over an hour and a half to make. Each time we have ordered the gentleman on the phone is rude and pushy. Today we called and placed a medium sized order ranging in pizzas, strombolis, and calzones. We were told everything would take about two hours. That amount of time seemed unreasonable for the size of the order — yet we still placed the order. Two people drove to pick it up about an hour and a half later; when they arrived they were told that the order was thrown out because they thought it was a prank order. What a waste of time — they have lost our business for good.

The cheesesteaks are ok but all the people who work there have an attitude. They always seem surly, maybe because I’m of Asian background. Who the f knows, but I’m not going back.

Not great. Got a cheesesteak and it was pretty bad. The staff wasn’t too friendly either. Never been back since.

Outstanding Jersey Shore style pizza. Stromboli is particularly excellent. Great meatballs and salads. Wish they made lasagna and stayed open a bit later.

I haven’t tried the pizza but the the pepper cheese steak with fried onions was solid. I walked over from Keystone while waiting for my poor car to be brought back to life and the service was fast and pretty friendly. I did like the seasoned curl fries a lot; they were hot, crispy, and flavorful. It was about $ 12 for a footlong steak and a side of curly rise, which isn’t bad considering that it’s Berwyn. A goof place to grab a quick bite on the Main Line, although it’s not exactly Dalessandro’s.

This pizza place has been in business since 1968. It’s family-run, and the staff seems a little gruff, but their pizza was really good, at least for the Main Line. I went in at 11am, feeling a bit peckish. I ordered a plain slice right out of the oven, and it was fresh, hot and good. The crust was thin and had a nice crunchewy texture, there was plenty of tomato sauce, and it wasn’t drowning in cheese. Personally, I prefer a bit extra tomato because I think it keeps things in better balance. So if that’s how you like your pizza, this place is for you!
