C.L.A.Y. Foundation

Saw Mike B’s posting for this event and signed up immediately. I am so glad to learn of this extremely worthwhile cause and encourage EVERYONE on Unilocal to visit their website:
which was founded by Laura Metro after the near-​death drowning of their 3 yr old son Clay.
Laura took that frightening and traumatic event and turned it into something positive. She founded the C.L.A.Y. Foundation to prevent future drownings.
C — is for CPR

The C.L.A.Y. Foundation hosted a «Beach Ball» at the Bethesda Country Club last night (August 24, 2013) to raise funds and awareness of drowning incidents. Major kudos to Laura and all the others who hosted the event. I was surprised to see how well-​attended it was, considering it was held the last week in August when, traditionally, many many folks are out of town. My guestimate was about 2 – 300 people showed up for what turned out to be a STELLAR night!
I have to admit that growing up here as a native Washingtonian, I’ve been to hundreds of events, and as a philanthropist neighbor of mine once said, there is a certain sense of «donor fatigue» that sets in when you see yet another charity event. When I clicked on this event, however, the first thing that got my attention was that the organization hosting it was raising funds to prevent children from drowning. Since I literally saved a close friend from drowning years ago, AND personally witnessed a near-​drowning of a small child at Bretton Woods Country Club pool, I was immediately going to support this effort!
The second thing that got my attention was the dress code: «Beach Bum Chic» attire. Wow, how often do you get to party in a ball room in that kind of dress? Count me in!
Attached as I am to my old «flip-​phone,» for once I was wishing I had an iPhone just so I could take pics of some of the outfits. I don’t care what anyone says, sky-​high stilettos SHOULD BE MANDATORY at the beach! While I didn’t see a single bikini, the ladies were looking f-​i-​n-​e and a lot of the gents stepped up too: quite a few pink shorts and Hawaiian shirts in the crowd, but I felt right at home in my bright yellow Canary Island t-​shirt and Hollister flowered shorts (complete with flip-​flops I might add!).
The evening was pure magic. The weather co-​operated (for once in DC area!) and the party was indoor-​outdoor and the band was perfect! «That 80’s Band» ROCKED the house and the dancing went on past midnight for us hardcore revelers!
Again, big UP’s to Mike B. our Unilocal CM for MD for posting this and letting me know about one of the most worthy causes I can imagine!
