Zen Hair and Beauty Salon

I made an appointment for haircut at 4pm, ended up leaving salon at 8pm = 5hrs. staff shampooed my hair right away, i waited 2hrs while Deborah worked on the only client before me. She started on my hair but asked for 10min to straight previous lady’s hair. I hate confrontations so I said fine… Turned out to be 30 min. After 2hrs of waiting, Deborah finally came to me…
I’m Asian. I have full thick black persons hair. I gave her a picture of Taylor swift, ended up looking like a Chinese poodle. The length is perfect but she barely thinned out the sides which I begged her to do. Of course my hair looked manageable after she blowdried/​straightened for an hr, but I knew after shower, my hair will be crazy puffy
During the haircut, she made small talks about Asian, her best friend is Japanese, asked if I consider Japanese as Asian, bc her friend gets mad when being labeled as Chinese. It was awkward.
If u have Asian hair, thick black person hair, I would not recommend coming here. If u have thin Caucasian hair, have a lot of free time, u may get a nice cut from detail oriented Deborah.
I bought groupon for the haircut and gave $ 20 tips. But I will never come back… Like ever.

I was looking to try somewhere new closer to home and chose this salon for the great reviews for color and Debra. I made an appt and arrived 10 minutes early. The salon wasn’t very busy. After 30 minutes of waiting (now 20 minutes past my appt time) I was seated in a chair and spoke to Debra about what I wanted done for color. She said sure, fine, but can you give me 15 – 20 minutes? I said no, at that point we would be 40 minutes past my appt time. She explained she was doing a bridal test and it wasn’t going well and she needed more time. She stood there saying nothing until I said ok to 5 – 10 minutes, there was no alternative to waiting. She did not come back so I left at 50 minutes past my appointment time with nothing done. The staff was courteous but couldn’t care less that they were so late, or that I was leaving. Not until 30 minutes later did they even care that I left and call to apologize.
You can do the best color ever, but with no respect for the customer, it really doesn’t mean anything. Very disappointed.

Monday I was looking for a salon that was opened and I found Zen the reviews were good so I decided to try it. The owner Debra was so sweet we clicked on the phone and I just knew the experience was going to be awesome. Sam the assistant gave a great shampoo can’t wait to go back. Thank you very much I will be sending my mom in, hopefully tomorrow for birthday Single, highlights and a blow out.

I went here because my hairdresser was out of commission and the reviews were great. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint I had a touch up and a blow out that are exceptional; and the prices are so reasonable!

What a wonderful experience this has been for me. My hair is highlighted, cut and blown out leading to a prettier, more confident me! i have never had a better color to compliment my skin tone. And… you always make me look younger and trendy. Thank you Debra for being so talented and doing such a fablulous job each and every time. It is now about18 months since I started there and I couldn’t be happier.

I had an appointment and re scheduled my day for this appointment. When I walked in the hair dresser Sam said «I’m running late» so I said, what does your client have to get done? She said a full head of highlights. She didn’t even start yet… She said come back in a half hour. Let me remind you my appointment was at 7 and I walked in at 7. Someone like me who has been getting highlights for 10 years knows it doesn’t take a half hour to get your hair highlighted… And this kid has hair down to almost her butt. She looked really sarcastic and almost as if it was funny to her. Note to my fellow yellpers. When you make an appointment with Sam, expect her to laugh in your face when you walk in and are upset you have to wait almost an hour past your appointment time. So very funny Sam, right? So un professional for an older woman.

I can’t say enough about my experience here! Deb really is a master of color and style — she went above and beyond to make me feel great and left happy with the results. Not only am I ecstatic with the color — I will definitly be going back here from now on.
I’ve tried countless hair stylists, experimenting with colors and cuts, and never finding someone who I feel confident will deliver the look I want — until ZEN!

Did not like it. Spent so much money expecting amazing results. Debra did not bother to blow dry my hair well she stuck brushes in my hair and made it ten times the size. When another customer walked in she rushed and I asked her if she would curl the ends and she said sometimes we do and did not bother. I always wear my hair out and I got home and put it up because I don’t feel she spent the time styling it to wear out. She made me look like the Brady brunch. It does not look like I cut my hair. This could have been my go to place but it will not be. She flattened one wife and left the other side bouncy so now it just looks weird. As a stylist you should know that. I have plans tonight and would rather much wash my hair and do it myself. I don’t recommend

I had a Great Gatsby themed wedding and wanted to get my hair and make up done. I found Zen on a Unilocal search and after reading the reviews decided to give it a chance. As soon as I walked in I knew I was in for an amazing experience, Debra, the owner, made feel welcome and so comfortable from the very beginning. She is in one word wonderful!!! I had previously texted pictures of what I wanted (faux bob) and she did an amazing job with my hair, it looked exactly as I wanted it, she also did an amazing job on my make up. She is warm, friendly and extremely professional, she is not only an expert at what she does but she loves her job and it shows! I recently moved to LI and I’ve had such a hard time finding someone I can trust with my hair, I am so glad I found Zen! Debra and her staff are amazing professionals, don’t hesitate to try their salon!

Deborah worked some magic on my hair!!! Sam was a great assistant at the same time. I got a balayage done with cut and blow dry. Boy did it look good! Thank you for a fun time!

This was my first time at Zen, I came in for partial highlights, cut & blow out. I’m extremely happy with how my hair turned out, it looks great — subtle, natural looking highlights. Debra was very attentive to what I said and took her time in the color and cut. I highly recommend Zen.

Though I found Zen by following my guy here (he’s cut my hair for 4 years now) I’m not even sure if he left that I would now. Zens owner (Debra) and her staff are a one of a kind unit. Peaceful and attentive, caring and always smiling. Zen Hair and Beauty Salon is relaxed and professional. I get my haircut by a pro and a world class shampoo I can talk with anyone who walks in because they attract my kind of human beings, the kind that are nice and unpretentious. Kudos to Zen and to Jarrett for finding a great spot for us.

When I moved to Long Island I was nervous about finding someone I trust with my hair. After calling several places, the staff a zenn were more than willing to fit me in for my first appointment that same afternoon. I arrived to nothing but smiles and attentiveness. I was lucky to have my hair done by Debra who offered new color techniques that have it looking better than ever before. Her friendly and genuine nature made a long coloring process less tedious. The desk girl/​assistant also worked on my hair shampooing and setting up color. Debra was right there watching to make sure it was correct and providing her with learning opportunities. The next time I went for an appointment Debra had made the effort to remember me and my coloring preferences and treated me like an old friend. My color lasts for months at a time and grows out nicely. I can’t wait to schedule my next appointment with this awesome salon.

This is one of the most relaxed and peaceful salons I have ever been too! Everyone there is so nice and helpful that you feel like your amongst family and friends instantly!!!
Jarett Berman is by far the best stylist that I have ever encountered. His attention to detail and ability to read the shape of the face in order to choose the perfect style is remarkable. I just got my monthly cut last Friday and I feel like I transcended after having a midsummer mop on top.
He took his time and made sure every hair was trimmed to perfection! This is by far the best my hair has ever looked and I feel and look much younger after his cut!
Please trust me and ask for Jarett he will not let you down and they offer great deals for wedding parties and spa services as well.
Truly a one stop shop away from the hustle and bustle of the city!!! That’s the way spa and salon services should be: convenient, tranquil and at a great value time and time again!!! My hats off to them (Literally!!!)

Had a great experience at Zen. Jarrett cut my hair and got me ready for a date that night. It ended up being a very good night for me. Would come back again!

Today was my first time visiting Zen Hair and Beauty Salon and I enjoyed my experience! Jarrett gave me the cut I’ve been wanting for a while, along with one of the most fabulous blow outs I’ve ever received at a salon. He made sure I felt comfortable and made sure my new style framed my face. I have already received a ton of compliments on the style and it’s only been a few hours since I had it done.
I wish I could rate this 4.5÷5 stars only because the price was a bit steep compared to some other salons I’ve visited in the area. However, I do believe that the experience and service was worth the price and I will return the next time I need a hair cut.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I would recommend this salon to others!

Gone to Zen’s three times already to have my hair colored and cut. Deborah did an amazing job coloring my hair… Jarrett gave me an awesome hair cut, I was very pleased.
I received so many compliments on the color and the cut… this is the place to go for short or long hair styles… Deborah, Sam, &Jarrett are dedicated to there customers and make sure you leave a very happy with there work.

Decided to try this place last week because of a deal I saw on Groupon. I hadn’t been to a hair salon in years so I was a little nervous, but they made me feel right at home. Jarrett did my cut and color and I couldn’t be happier with the results. He is such a sweetheart, very down to earth and he made it a point to make sure I was completely comfortable and happy with my new look. My hair looks and feels soo much healthier now. I also met Deborah and Sam while I was there, they were both super nice as well. I will definitely be back and will recommend this place to others!

I was so impressed with my experience. I wasn’t rushed, the cut and feel of her fingers in my hair was seriously confident! The bridal room for makeup and hair is so cute and special. I had a very laid back relaxing time. Debra is awesome!
