Walking into Yarns in the Farms is like a walking into a fairy tale… you pass through the door, and feel like you are having a good hair day and your jeans suddenly fit better. The shop carries local yarns and big brands, and the shelves are stacked with inspirational garments and ideas. Winner Best of North Shore 2010. Weekly drop in Knit Nights Tues and Weds 7 – 9 pm.

A children’s book author and a preschool director learn to knit. The result is a fairy tale of a shop, without the evil queen.

Business Owner

Jill and Carolyn are the perfect storm behind the great shop vibes. Jill is a children’s book author and illustrator, and Carolyn ran a school for 20 years. Teaching and inspiring is a passion for both of them. Jill travels the world to bring in textiles and design ideas that abound in the shop. Carolyn bakes cookies and always has a cup of tea for visitors.

I’m sorry the previous reviewer had such a negative experience, as I had quite the opposite. Today was my first time at Yarns in the Farm; we decided to take a ride out & see what they had to offer-I’m certainly glad we did.
It’s a small shop, fully stocked with fantastic, high quality yarns & supplies. I found exactly what I was looking for & the women present were nothing short of friendly & helpful.
I highly recommend checking this lovely shop out. I can’t wait to stop back in.

Yarns in the Farms is the neighborhood store that we all wanted to grow up with as children and we thought only existed in fairy tales and the 1950s. Which is not to say that it is stodgey or conservative. Undeniably wacky the two owners, Jill and Carolyn who call themselves Tink and Wink, have set up a community that welcomes all comers. The staff is a hodge podge assortment of family and friends who are always happy to see you and to help with whatever knitting trouble you have run into since the last time you visited.
Admittedly the yarn itself tends to be on the luxurious side. This is not JoAnn Fabrics or Michaels. Many of the yarns come from small farms and specialty operations. They tend towards quality and beauty rather than affordability but are always worth the price especially since they come with such love and care attached.
If you find yourself in the Beverly/Salem area this shop is definitely worth a visit, and another, and another.
