Wow, I am so grateful to have found Dr. Chin on Unilocal — and that he accepts my insurance! I am new to the LA area and was overdue for my annual, plus I had some ovarian cysts that needed treatment. I also have some complicated conditions and a chronic illness. I was able to get an appointment quickly and Dr. Chin put me at ease. He’s clearly knowledgeable about not just gynecological issues but modern medicine as well…
Also the office is super responsive and what other doctor calls you back himself within 24 hours to give you test results? On top of that, if I miss his call, he calls back the next day to make sure I got his message and see if I have any questions. I would recommend him to anyone seeking OB/​GYN or even a PCP.

I literally owe my life to Tony Chin. I was busy with my new job and I put all my health issues on the back burner. I knew I had a ovarian cyst, but honestly I didn’t think it was a big deal. After meeting Dr. Chin at a movie première with a friend of mine, he gently suggested that I come see him ASAP. Unlike a lot of top doctors in Beverly Hills, he accepts insurance, so I set up an appointment. He did an ultrasound on the spot. It turned out that my ovarian cyst had a solid tumor inside of it. Dr. Chin set up a surgery date within two weeks at Cedars. The tumor turned out to be Stage 1 ovarian cancer. It was a very scary time, but Dr. Chin was there for me every step of the way — and for that I’m eternally grateful.

I love Dr. Chin and his staff they’re always on time never waited more than 15 minutes. he never let you feel rushed and he personally calls you about your test results. I am glad he’s my Dr. For my 1^st born

I have to agree with Nicole C, her experience with Chin actually sounds a lot like my birthing experience with him. I was very turned off by his bedside manners and found him to be very rude and unprofessional during a time when I was feeling very vulnerable. He also pushed Pitocin on me from the very beginning and I could not understand why. I had a walking epidural and was making progress-​yes it may have taken hours but I wanted to avoid any unnecessary drugs if possible. Plus, my baby was not in any kind of harm from waiting. I could tell when Chin arrived at the hospital that he was frustrated with me for not following along with what fit in HIS schedule. He made comments like, «I’m just going to go home if you’re not going to take the Pitocin». And as he left he said, «I’m going to go have dinner with my daughter now». Unbelievable… Luckily the nurses at Cedars Sinai are amazing and supportive. They made up for all of Chin’s shortcomings.
To me it seems all the high reviews are probably from people who obeyed all of Chin’s orders and didn’t challenge his calls. As long as you stay on his good side, you’ll get the pleasant guy. But as soon as you question him, you’ve got a totally different person.

Took care of my wife throughout her pregnancy. Delivered our baby the day his vacation was supposed to start. Even called during his vacation to check in. Good analysis, and good information so we could make informed choices. Very patient. Respected all of our choices and didn’t push us on anything. Always took his time during appts and called us personally about test results and their meanings.
One thing we a Really liked was his appts started on time. Nice and professional office staff which is a plus.
Would recommend him to a family member or friend.

I was referred to Dr Chin by a friend of mine. What a GREAT doctor. He makes you feel very comfortable and is so nice and funny! He makes the calls personally which is very nice and meets with you in his office. I was in and out very quickly and he called me the following Monday and my appointment was that Friday. I am very impressed and will continue using him. I wish there were more stars to give this man!

I absolutely recommend Dr. Chin! He is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable talking to him about anything, he calls, (himself), after every test to personally give you results. He is a keeper OBGYN for sure!

Dr. Chin embodies everything you would want in a doctor! He is brilliant and at the top of his field, he is patient, kind, thoughtful, supportive, and approachable. He speaks to you as an equal and you feel both empowered and taken care of. And I love that he has a great sense of humor. I came to him at the recommendation of my kiddo’s pediatrician (she said he was the top ob/​gyn she knew), and I am forever grateful to her for the referral. I really cannot thank Dr. Chin enough for his incredible care.

Dr. Chin is a godsend! I switched to him late in my pregnancy (36 weeks) as a referral for a more supportive doc for natural childbirth. He was very respectful of my desired birth experience, learned as much as he could about our style and was thorough.
Through the labor birth process, he always kept my wishes in mind. He communicated all of the pros and the cons of each medical choice/​potential intervention throughout — without delivering a personal opinion. I felt like he respected our ability to make educated medical decisions — and just gave the facts…
And…he has awesome bedside manner. Its a pleasure to chat with him — he’s a regular, down to earth guy, with a great sense of humor and easy to talk to.
I couldn’t ask for a better doctor for deliveries and the pregnancy process.

Dr. Chin is such a gift that I wish all doctors were like him and had his gentle and well-​educated manner. I am having my first baby and chose Dr. Chin based on reviews and referrals from past patients. His office staff is always so polite and kind when i come for my monthly check-​ups. From the beginning, I have never felt rushed during my appointments and he always makes sure that all of my questions are answered thoughtfully. I also love that he personally calls you right away when you get your test results back — how many doctors do that nowadays?
He is very well-​educated and informed me at each visit of what can happen at different stages of pregnancy as well as reassuring me so that I never felt nervous or anxious during this special time. I feel so comfortable knowing that Dr. Chin will be delivering my baby in December and am so glad that I chose an OBGYN that is so caring and thoughtful in his work. I cannot say enough great things about him as a doctor and as a person! Thank you!

My personal experience with Dr. Chin is as a birth doula. I have also had a few gilrfriends that delivered their babies with him and LOVED him.
One of his best attributes is patience and trust in the process and a woman’s body. When I have a client with Dr. Chin or Dr. Crane (same practice) I know I don’t have to worry my clients will be told her baby is too big and she needs an induction, her hips are too small therefore she needs a cesarean etc.
He is very helpful and spends quality time with his patients, he supports VBAC, he is the consulting doctor for a few home birthing midwives in town which shows his commitment to caring for women’s choices in their birthing experiences. AND he takes insurance, which is important in a town where great doctors sometimes don’t.
So from a professional stand point I highly recommend Dr. Chin.

Dr. Chin is awesome. I have been through countless gynos and not liked any of them. Dr. Chin is the first gyno I have had who I feel 100% comfortable with. I have been his patient for 5 years now and it is SUCH a relief to know that I need look no further! I only wish I had found him sooner! Also he takes my insurance which is a huge plus (Anthem Blue Cross).
He always calls you personally to deliver lab results. He takes his time answering your questions in understandable language. He is kind, has a good sense of humor and is a nice person. His partner Dr. Crane is also amazing.
Dr. Chin just performed a myomectomy on me to remove 4 fibroid tumors that were causing me quite a bit of discomfort. His staff was AMAZING though all the pre-​op planning. Kathy, in particular, had to reschedule my surgery two times because I had a sinus infection that wouldn’t go away and she did so with patience and so much kindness for what I was dealing with!
My surgery went great– it was quick, I had minimal bleeding afterwards and have had no issues or complications. Everyone at the hospital had nothing but praise for Dr. Chin and what a great surgeon he is. He is calm and laid back which made me feel calm and laid back and I had total confidence going under the knife knowing he was holding the scalpel!
I highly recommend this doctor. He is one of the best, and I am the QUEEN of fancy doctors and have been to them all!

At 10 weeks right now. But at week 5 I started having intense heart palpitations every few seconds. Dr. Chin squeezed me into his day and immediately sent me to a heart specialist to rule out any causes not related to the pregnancy. My heart is still skipping but at least I know it’s due to the increase blood volume and my heart is 100% healthy according to the echo-​cardiogram and blood work. My heart chose to juggle the new blood instead of finding a new rhythm. Dr. Chin checked our baby’s heart and it was calmly beating a steady beat. I was referred to Dr. Chin by our amazing midwife Davi Khulsa. I will be returning to Dr. Chin during week 13 – 14 for a check-​up.

Dr. Chin was my OB for my first pregnancy and after interviewing a few other OBs in the area, we were confident that he was the best for us for the following reasons:
1) He is a really, really smart doctor. When we asked the other OBs questions, they kind of didn’t have a really good answer. Dr. Chin was able to intelligently explain complicated medical processes to me in a way that was understandable — and he was able to approach the question from many different angles. We felt confident that if something should go awry during the pregnancy, he’d be able to handle it competently.
2) Like everyone else says, he is super approachable and laid back – and as a first time mom, that translated to me being laid back about the entire pregnancy as well. He’s an optimist and was very reassuring to me that everything would be okay. This meant to me that he’s not going to push drugs, interventions, or unnecessary procedures on me if I didn’t need it.
3) He is passionate about what he does. Translation: He will personally call you about your lab/​test results, he stays current on latest OB medicine, and he genuinely cares for your well-​being and that of your baby. During my third trimester, I decided to do a homebirth instead of delivering in a hospital. When I brought it up to Dr. Chin, he was really positive about it and agreed to back-​up my midwife. He even gave me midwife recommendations. If Dr. Chin could’ve come to our house to deliver our baby, we certainly would’ve chosen that as our birth route because of the type of doctor that he is.
I’m keeping him as by OB/​GYN and would definitely recommend him to anyone who’s looking for a good doctor.

Great doctor! Cares about his patients. They do great follow up calls. The staff is very helpful. They seem to value their patients. I was told by my friend to come here since I’m always nervous about my annual OBGYN visits and Dr. Chin made me feel very comfortable.

Can’t say enough great things about Dr. Chin and his office staff. I went there because I was planning a home birth and was nervous about the baby being «too big» after an ultrasound where the doctor said the baby’s abdomen was 97^th percentile and I failed the 3 hr gestational diabetes test. I wanted a second opinion about what to do.
As soon as I walked in the front door I knew something was different. The staff made eye contact and treated me like a human being and didn’t seem to hate their jobs. It makes a huge difference.
Dr. Chin was very down to earth/​laid back, supportive, upbeat, and respectful (didn’t talk down to me but was happy to explain anything I wanted him to). He did another ultrasound (he said he always does his own) and I left feeling like if I stayed healthy I could still do a home birth. I would have happily delivered with Dr. Chin at Cedars if I lived nearby, but since I live in Pasadena it was farther than I wanted to travel to have a baby. I did have the baby at home with a midwife at 39 weeks and she was 8 lbs 2 oz with about 10 minutes of pushing and no complications. (He was right). I am so grateful that he and his office are available to other women wanting to have an awesome birth! Dr. Chin is the best.

I am a fan of this Dr and the practice. I swear that Dr Chin is in a league of his own. I was skeptical at first but after great recommendations from many other friends I’ve decided it’s time to use him.
When I delivered my first baby he was there and was such a great Dr during the birth.
I am now on Baby #2 and it’s going very well and he’s such a calming influence on us!
He’s very laid back, doesn’t use scare tactics, very logical and a very calm OB!
And he doesn’t talk the Dr lingo. He makes sure you understand what he’s talking about and doesn’t overwhelm you with terminology. :)

I guess it all depends on what kind of OBGYN you’re looking for. DR. Chin tends to be:
–very encouraging of natural birth
–Supportive of doulas
–supportive of VBAC
–a thoughtful doc who actually gives a rats tushie about you and your birth
–available when you need him
–has great back up who is as supportive and encouraging as he is.
–supportive of midwifery care
–A hands of approach, low interventions
–supportive of longer gestational times
–encouraging of birth plans…
You get the picture.
For me he did a version (successfully no longer breech), and caught baby #2, and is on board for my home birth for baby #3. And he has been the OB for a few of my clients (I’m a doula).
I know that with him, he’s not going to pull the «dead baby card» when life gets inconvenient, and that he’ll support my clients approach to birth.

Several years ago I went to Dr. Chin with a large (cantaloupe sized) fibroid tumor that needed to be removed. While interviewing doctors to perform the procedure, I had a laundry list, consisting of several legal sized pages of questions. Dr. Chin took what was probably a half hour, sitting forward in his chair with his elbows on his knees, truly listening and patiently answered each question in a manner that was easily understandable. He worked with me in regard to payment, called after my release from the hospital and left what is a tiny hairline scar. I could not possibly give higher praise to this doctor.

I am a birth doula in the South Bay and just 1 week ago I supported a couple through labor/​birth at Cedars Sinai Hospital with Dr. Anthony Chin.
Wow! There are no words to describe how awesome this doctor is! See, you have to understand, where I live, it is very rare to find a doctor that is so Mama Friendly and is fearless about birth like Dr. Chin.
For example, my client was 7 days past her due date and when she went to her doctor’s appointment, Dr. Chin checked the wellness and health of client and baby but did not even require a vaginal exam! HELLO! Many doctors I know would have already done a vaginal exam at 37 weeks of pregnancy (which in my opinion is way too soon and not medically necessary). Not only that, at 7 days post-​date he made no mention or try to pressure her for induction!
My client was «allowed» to go into labor on her own up until day 14 which is current ACOG standards. Happily, she started labor on day 13 and by day 14 post-​date, she experienced a beautiful birth with Dr. Chin by her side!
Oh, and another cool thing about Dr. Chin: He let the husband «catch» the baby! How awesome is that?!
Aside from his total Trust and Support of the Natural Process he also is a pretty funny guy! He has one of the best bedside manners I have ever experienced when supporting a client. (I love his partner, Dr. Crane too!)
When it was time to push, Dr. Chin came in with a calm attitude and a gentle smile and just sat on her birth ball and waited patiently : —)
I could go on and on but you get my point. Dr. Anthony Chin is HIGHLY recommended in my doula book and I shall refer more clients to him if they will birth at Cedars Sinai. By the way, nurses Christina and Nora were lovely and supportive too.
