Caulfield’s Bar & Dining Room

Wow, we were so impressed and pleased. We actually went just to hear the music and decided to have dinner while we were there. What excellent food and service! Great location and parking! But we will go back just to eat in the near future.

Had an awesome happy hour with the girls on Friday! This spot is super cute, chic and comfortable. Our waitress Sarah was great, and we were also very impressed at Katie (the manager) — thus, service was superb!
We ordered:
1x cheese plate
1x shrimp cocktail (2 pc for happy hour huge prawns!!)
2x kale chips (the bomb)
2x eggplant meatballs (amazing!)
1 dozen oysters (half off Friday and they were huge, not very briny delish!)
1x butternut soup
A few of the Misfit cocktails and some beers
Highly recommend all of the above. We also popped up to the rooftop bar for 1 drink and Katie was so awesome to check on us and to advise she reset the table so to not be alarmed when returning to the dining room — felt that was very courteous!

I had a lunch meeting here and ordered a Cesar salad they have some other great items on the menu, the short rib grilled cheese looks great however, I had the salad itself was good, cold lettuce, good dressing however the size was pathetically small for $ 15.00. Have you ever gone to a restaurant and paid like $ 1.99 extra for a side salad, that’s basically the size of the salad and they don’t even give you bread for the table. I felt it was very overpriced for the portions you get, I left very hungry.

Step into Caulfield’s and you’ll feel transported to a modern take on the 1990’s, with the nice simple white table cloth tables alongside posh black booth seating with a backdrop of white brick walls. You’ll also feel like you’ll in a rather quiet neighborhood given that there will be very much a lack of a crowd (at least around 730 – 8 on a Saturday night).
The food itself is decent at best, but given Beverly Hills prices, you can find better alternatives. We ordered eggplant meatballs, the braised short rib, and the burger. The eggplant meatballs were interesting take — taste was great and the amount of cheese/​tomato sauce provided essentially made it feel like you were eating a nice taste of pizza. I had high hopes for the braised short rib that unfortunately were not realized. Felt it was on the drier side, especially since they did not accompany their dish with the excess sauce that usually accumulates in the process of making braised short ribs. The burger was pretty tasty, but for the price, I’d much rather end up at a Plan Check.
Service was great though, especially one server who was especially jovial and made us feel at home.

We had a pre-Valentine’s Day dinner and it was fantastic.
The entire staff were helpful and accommodating. I had the roasted chicken that was perfectly seasoned, juicy with crispy skin. The mashed potatoes were smooth and flavorful. I opted out of the brussel sprouts and had broccolini instead… cooked to perfection.
There was a mishap with the key lime pie. The manager personally came to our table and explained it was not made to their standards and we got another dessert (which they comp’d). We should’ve ordered the mousse in the first place because it was so decadent. I think we scraped every bit out of the glass.
I had a drink called the Ms. Monroe and it was stellar. It smells super sweet but it’s not. The habanero bitters balanced out the strawberry, it was great.
We will be back time and time again.

Came To Caulfield’s for Dine LA. I used to pass it all the time driving to my old job, and wanted to try it. So glad they participated in the restaurant week. Must try dishes are their CRAB CAKES and the LOBSTER TRUFFLE MAC N’ CHEESE. My boyfriend and I both inhaled those dishes. My main dish was not as impressing. Could be that it’s not normally a dish I would order, but I did want to try something different. I loved the live music, the drinks, and our amazing server who was so attentive. Regardless if it’s Dine LA or not, I’d definitely come back again for dinner, or at least drinks! ENJOY!
Valet drive in is the same area as the hotel. $ 10 with restaurant validation.

I came in here around 2:30pm-ish sat up at the bar cause I just needed a really quick bite before a meeting. There were 2 other tables in the entire restaurant. Place looks great. Staff was friendly. I ordered a Coke, Shrimp Cocktail, and some hand cut fries. The shrimp cocktail was 3 shrimps. With tip, my bill was $ 40 for a Coke, 3 shrimp and fries.
The shrimps were jumbo and honestly tasted delicious. But 3? For something like $ 14. Okay it’s Beverly Hills, fine. The «hand-​cut» fries though — they were someone else’s fries. They came out barely luke warm and were so obviously reheated. They looked like your average frozen fry, I don’t even believe they were fresh cut.
I was in too much of a hurry to go through the whole thing of send them back, talk to a manager, don’t charge me, who cares, I gotta go. But I paid $ 10 for fries that someone in the kitchen was too lazy — with only two other tables — to make fresh. I waited tables and bartended 18 years! I know what reheated fries taste like. These had just been sitting back on the line and someone double fried them real quick cause I could feel the extra grease in them. Kinda pathetic for a Beverly Hills restaurant.

We ate here last night for DineLa. I have no real complaints. The restaurant is inside the Sixty Hotel. I parked in valet which you enter from the front on Wilshire.
We were greeted by a blonde woman that was super friendly. Our waiter was real cool, as well.
Since we couldn’t decide which appetizer to get so waiter suggested we share. So I got the mac & cheese and my friend got the crab cakes and we shared those. Sooo good.
It was two crab cakes and they were a pretty decent size. Probably one of the best crab cakes I’ve ever had. The lobster mac was flavorful. Very good. We were glad we got to try both.
For our main course I got the trout and my friend got the roasted chicken. My trout was perfect. The roasted chicken was melt in your mouth tender.
For dessert I got the key lime and my friend got the flourless chocolate cake. We shared. Both were very good.
We had some cocktails and both were very good, as well.
Service was fabulous. Oh! And there was live music. A woman played the piano and sang. Very nice vibe all the way around.
The only negative was this black hostess that had the most sour expression and personality the entire night. She kept passing our table and was just soooo sour. Her attitude didn’t fit with everyone else. And when we were walking out and passing her at the hostess area, she just looked at us, still with a sour expression… and then she suddenly conjured up a forced smile and told us to have a good night. But it was very awkward and fake. We got outside and laughed so hard. We couldn’t understand why a hostess had a hard time showing an ounce of hospitality. Lol Wth? But she was irrelevant. Just someone we kept tripping off of throughout the night because of her odd, unfriendly expression.
About parking. So I parked in valet. He told me to get it validated and it would be $ 10. I forgot to get it validated. Argh So I told the valet guy I would go back inside to have it done. He told me there was no need and he could do it. But he charged me $ 14. Wth? But I was too tired and lazy to argue. Also if you have no cash, there is a Wells Fargo atm next door to the hotel and a Chase on the next corner down.
ANYWAY everyone (besides the black hostess) were awesome. Food was great. Ambiance was on point. Drinks were really good. We will be back!

I really enjoyed my experience here. I felt as though the food was good and the service was great. Especially appreciated the manager, Katie. She was highly professional and accommodating during my time spent there. If you appreciate great customer service and a great vibe. This place is for you.

*This review is based solely on New Year’s Eve, so it’s highly possible this restaurant is fine the other 364 days of the year.
My husband, a few friends and I chose Caulfield’s for New Year’s Eve, because they had a great deal where you could get into a party at the hotel for free if you spent $ 50 per person at dinner. I called and confirmed this with the hostess prior to NYE and when we sat down at our table, our server also confirmed it. Two of our friends had misunderstood and accidentally purchased tickets. When one of the managers stopped by we tried to ask her if they could have a refund or if the money they had spent could be taken off our bill, but she informed us the hotel had sold so many tickets to the party, they were no longer honoring the offer they marketed to everyone in the restaurant. Huh?!
Since our friends had tickets, she honored the original deal for the rest of us, but we felt really bad for everyone else in the restaurant, as they had likely chosen it for the same reason we had (because of the free access to the NYE party upstairs).
As if this wasn’t bad enough, it literally took us one hour to get drinks after sitting down at the table. That’s right, one entire hour of sitting at the table without drinks on NYE and finally ONE drink came out, yes for one person. On the bright side, the kitchen did have it all together (unlike the bar) and our food came out in a timely manner and was very good.
After this experience, none of us will ever be back. Definitely steer clear of this restaurant on NYE!

First off I have to say this, to walk into a nicer restaurant with my wife and son and not have anyone acknowledge us at the front was irritating. The bartender said we don’t have a maitre de during the week, after he said someone will be there to seat us shortly. After 5 minutes, he said to seat ourselves? What? Most bizarre thing ever.
We looked over menu which is limited. A manger who was nice asked us for drink order to which we hadn’t been given a wine list or drink menu. Not the end of the world but shows how it operates there. After we ordered a glass of wine another wait staff gentleman came to our table to say he’d be our waiter the rest of the night. I asked him between the half chicken and short ribs and he immediately said the chicken. I ordered that, which was decent, the funny part is when we chatted the waiter up some more, he said he literally started 2 hours ago! How then does he know which is better between the short ribs and chicken???
The food was decent, the wait staff was nice but in the end, there are too many places to go in LA without the confusion.

This place was so unbelievably bad it blew my mind. I was in a complete state of shock, but I try to be at least a little positive so let me start there: the macaroni & cheese with lobster in truffle oil was absolutely divine. Truffle oil is known for being very particular, I have never had comfort food transformed in such in an amazing way.
Now for the rest. My friends, fiancé and I stopped in before a scheduled theater event just down the street and were quasi greeted by staff. The restaurant was almost completely empty except for one table with three people, a bartender, and two other staff members. Our first bartender didn’t give his name, and while was polite he was obviously distracted. He got us our drinks pretty handily and then vanished, I never saw him again and no one ever came to replace him really. The second person who started to quasi-​care for my friends and I served us our food and disappeared, he too was obscenely distracted and couldn’t be stopped.
A couple walked in and were seated by the busy staff member we overheard to be the manager, he sat them, barked something to an employee and vanished. It was another five or so minutes before that employee came behind the bar and by this time my drink had been empty for a considerable amount of time so I asked for another. The new couple had also never been attended to, so they got up to leave. The «Manager» yelled after them and welcomed them to come back, meanwhile he absolutely ripped into the staff member behind the bar, in front of all of us. I got my drink, but now my fiancé had an empty glass. He sat there waiting for service for another ten minutes before we gave up and asked for the check. The best part happened last.
The staff member brought us our check and apologized for the service, stating he was not even supposed to be attending us. The person who was supposed to be assisting us was the manger, who was good for nothing except barking orders at people, restricting them from doing their jobs, and then reprimanding them for it. WOW. I’ve waited tables in the past, even did some bar work, and I know what it’s like to have bad management. But that’s the staff and the owner’s problem; not the customer. For shame.
Of course this place is in Beverly Hills and had Beverly Hills prices, but the quality of service, the dramatics, and the overall experience was just awful. Never going back.

I love the chicken chopped salad. The lemonade here is REALLY TART. It basically just tasted like lemon juice with water and NO SUGAR. Got the grilled cheese with short rib — was hoping the rib meat would be marinated. The fries were good, regular fries. The restaurant was smaller than I thought it would be. I will always get the chopped salad or may be try other dishes. Heard the salmon is good here.

I came here with my girlfriend for dinner because it was a 1000– point table on OpenTable. We ordered the Butter Lettuce Salad to share; it was okay, nothing special, they gave us a good amount of avocado, but it wasn’t even exactly ripe. We also ordered the White Truffle Pizzette and the Hand Made Garganelli, both to share. The Pizzette was amazing; this dish is what made it worth coming here. The garganelli wasn’t anything special at all, wouldn’t recommend ordering it, but the Pizzette was delicious. If it weren’t for the pizzette, our night would have been quite disappointing; definitely a must-​try, especially for those truffle-​lovers.

Service was alright; it was a very quiet evening… in the entire restaurant, there were probably only 2 other tables and plenty of waiters idly standing by, so service was quick. Waiters were polite so no complaints there.

The restaurant’s design itself is quite classy, with a nice bar and plenty of space. But, it was just so quiet since there were pretty much no other diners in the restaurant. It felt somewhat uneasy because there were just so many more waiters than guests. It was a Saturday night at 8pm too, so it wasn’t weird timing or whatnot. I would have felt a lot more comfortable if there was a little more life in the restaurant.
Ambiance — ³⁄₅
Overall, I’d tell my friends to come here just to try the pizza, or maybe for a casual drink. Food doesn’t seem to be all too good, but it’s not exactly bad either. Just quite average.

What I liked:
— Happy hour specials were awesome ($ 6 for select apps and well drinks)
— Food was quite good; we got the mini ribs (great sauce), pizzette (nice and garlicky), kale chips (my burps taste delicious), and chocolate mousse (wonderful texture, very nicely done)
— Everything we ordered came up fast; we got there with one hour of happy hour left, and were able to order three dishes and two rounds of drinks
— Service is friendly and efficient; our waitress checked in on us often enough that we didn’t feel forgotten, but not so often that we were annoyed.
— Parking is super convenient ($ 10 for valet isn’t bad for Beverly Hills)
— Free wifi, so we were able to watch the game.
What I didn’t like:
The waitress asked if we wanted flat or sparkling water; figuring they’d charge for the sparkling, we opted for flat. We should’ve specified tap, because she brought a bottle… and later found out it cost $ 8. Ouch.

Came here last night with a friend after 6 other restaurants told us they had over an hour wait. I call it a blessing in disguise.
Had the short rib with root veggies and celery root purée. It actually came with roasted brussels sprouts instead of root vegetables, but the flavors all still worked very well. I just wish they would have mentioned they were substituting because I did order a side of brussels sprouts to go with my meal… so that was a lot of sprouts. Overall, though, the sprouts and short rib were great. The carrots that came with the short rib were just a little undercooked.
Also had the butternut squash ravioli. They came in a delicious cream sauce that I think may have had a touch of sherry in it. Very nicely done. It had fresh sage and small cubes of squash. The shaved parmesan really elevated the dish.
The butter lettuce salad was nothing special but still fresh and delicious. It wasn’t overly dressed, which I really appreciated. They were very nice to split it onto two separate plates for us.
I finished the meal with the apple crumble. The crumble on top was insanely delicious and I wish it had a lot more of it. It was a great dessert and big enough for a few people to share. It was burn-​your-​mouth HOT but I couldn’t stop eating it.
I also had the crisp, which was an awesomely spicy cocktail with tequila, basil, and serrano chile.
Our server was also great. She was the perfect blend of friendly and helpful.
Overall, I was extremely happy with the experience, quality of food, and price. I have NO idea why we were one of only three tables in the whole restaurant!

I came here for dine LA for a casual, light lunch. Its located like in a hotel lobby? It was a classy location with a classy menu– Kale chips, prosciutto, salad, and fancy grilled cheese. Its almost like a wanna-​be fancy restaurant; they’ve got expensive sounding dishes, but I don’t think the taste is worth as much as it costs. Its still good, but I wouldn’t come out of my way to come here again. Maybe its better during dinner time though. Lunch time there isn’t that many food options, even on the regular menu.
The kale chips were really oily. Prosciutto was good, but when is it not? The salad was plain and nothing special about it. Grilled cheese looked good, but not sure how it tasted.

I came to Caulfield’s for dinner during dineLA. I appreciate restaurants like these that actually put their regular menu items on the dineLA menu, not just some cheap dishes that they scrap together and will never serve again. All six dishes are available regularly. Below is what we had (ratings out of 5):
–3 Mussels, smoked tomato, fennel, charred bread: they were good, but there were only seven mussels in the dish. I wouldn’t pay the normal $ 16 for that portion. I also prefer mine in white wine sauce.
–5 Lobster Mac and Cheese: This was the best mac and cheese I have had in I can’t even remember how long. The lobster was good in it, but it still would have received 5 stars without it. The sauce was so rich, creamy, and flavorful. I pretty much licked the bowl clean.
–4.5 Swordfish, turnip purée, rainbow chard, compound butter: The fish was cooked right and flavored well. I really like the turnip purée and rainbow chard with it.
–5 Braised Short Ribs, roasted root vegetables, celery root purée, red wine jus: They were so so so tender. Everything on the plate was yummy.
–3 Pumpkin Cheesecake: graham cracker crust, spiced whipped cream: The crust had the texture of cold butter.
–3 Chocolate Mousse, chantilly cream, dark chocolate pearls: The chocolate was gritty and too bitter
Everyone at Caulfield’s was nice and friendly. However, our server, as nice as she was, wasn’t the best.
The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Thompson Hotel. Valet entrance is off eastbound Wilshire Blvd. and is $ 10 with restaurant validation. It has a very art deco bistro vibe. The small dinning area gets pretty loud as well. There were only four other parties there and I couldn’t hear across our small table. We came Saturday night and it looked like a DJ was setting up for later and the bar was full when we left.

I ordered their dry aged beef sirloin burger and a doughnut dessert. I thought the food was a bit ‘hit & miss’. The burger was pretty good, but far from great. The vanilla custard filled doughnuts were solid. I’ll break down the dishes I tried the best I can.
Dry Aged Sirloin Burger $ 28
— Beef patty was good, although not at the intensity levels you might get at say Salts Cure or Wolfgangs Steakhouse.
— Much of the condiments were often unessential.
— The bun used was poor. I thought the quality just wasn’t quite quite there & it looked nothing like the sesame bun,
— Value is poor for the price they charge.
— Be cautious of one of the beef burger photo posted by another Unilocaler. What I ordered didn’t look quite as good and bared little resemblance.

Doughnuts $ 12
— The inside of the doughnut balls were filled with a more intense vanilla flavored custard. I liked how it wasn’t sugary sweet and you could taste more of the vanilla and the cinnamon and/​or other spices coated on the outside of the doughnut.
— The doughnut dough itself was very light. This wasn’t as heavy a dessert as other restaurant style doughnuts I’ve ordered in the past.
Value is poor. A lot of the food prices charged here seem to be a bit more than comparable restaurants in the area, including Bouchon (I think their burger is $ 17 – 19). However, based on my lunch here today, my impression is that the quality and execution isn’t quite there to warrant the premium prices they charge.
Note that there is also a $ 16 lamb burger on the menu that might be a more appealing value.
Service was about average. I did like how they returned my burger the first time around even though I had finished a good amount. Otherwise, the attentiveness wasn’t befitting the prices a place like this charges. I had to wait and flag servers down most of the time for anything.
Ambiance was pretty cool. It reminded me of a more modern but comfortable brasserie. The restaurant has three different sections. The front portion (where I sat) seems to lend itself to a lot of natural sunlight and works great for lunch.

With parking, I usually go to the lots on Crescent next to Whole Foods, which is the first hour free, and maybe another dollar or two for the second hour. It’s a 2 min walk to the restaurant. I imagine the restaurant might offer valet via the hotel it’s located in, but I’m not sure.
