Dr Koursh was the doctor on call when I needed help for my 2 year old son, who was severly congested. He suggested that I put my son to sleep strapped in a car seat to keep him upright… suffocation risk isn’t important!

Dr. Koursh is so amazing! He takes his time answering our questions and time evaluating our baby every time we go for his appointments. He is super sweet! I am very satisfied and I recommend him to everybody

Almost every doctor in this practice, without fail, is rude and incompetent. Koursh diagnosed my son in 5 minutes with ADHD with a referral to get drugs form a Psychiatrist — little did I know that he needed a full psychological test (weeks) to ger evaluated. Koursh apparently thinks a 5 minute talk is enough to deem him ADHD (which we later found out hs is not) and send him to get on speed. Dr. Coles allowed me to leave on a Friday afternoon with my newborn, pulling at his ear, after finding fluid in his ear, with no antibiotics, saying «it may just get better.» Well — it most certainly DID NOT — it got so horrible he was screaming in pain all night and we had to sit in urgent care the next morning for 5 hours to get him the antibiotic he needed since Friday. Shimoyama, as per the comments, yes, is extremely rude. Called her a few weeks ago as it was afterhours, my older son had a very very high fever — she didnt even ask me how high it was. They were closed Monday, labor day, so I brought him on Tuesday to see Dr. Wang. He found nothing, got very mad at me for questioning the difference between a virus and a bacterial infection, even though my sons fever had lasted 3 days now, couldn’t swalow, and was sleeping day and night (for a very active kid this was no normal virus). He said «a monkey would know better.» I still dont know what he meant by this. Took him Thursday, now a fever for 5 days, to Dr. Hindoyan, who also found nothing, spent 30 minutes reprimanding me for filling an antibiotic she had prescribed a month earlier, in fromt of my kids, instead of examining my very very sick son. Not to mention my 16 month old was 2 hours past his nap time and wailing on the floor. SO I took my son to see a pediatrician out of pocket — who immediately saw and showed me his VERY SWOLEN TONSIL WITH WHITE DOTS ALL OVER. Had he not caught this, he would have had to drain it out, very very painful for a year old. Then I got a letter in the mail kicking me out of their practice — instead of a appology. This office is SO HORRIBLE STAY AWAY FROM IT. Even the nurses are awful — they sawb an area of my baby’s leg before injecting him, then they inject him on a part that wasnt swabbed, risking infection! I asked her if she was supposed to inject him on th etop of his thigh or the side — she said the side, but proceeded, a second time, to inject him right on the top where it is very painful. Just the worst, worst office ever. They treat their patients worse than cattle.

You know what, I can’t with this office. We’ve been going to this doctor’s office for 2 ½ years, starting off with Dr. Koursh, and then eventually moving to Dr. Coles in the same practice. Dr. Koursh overall is a very relaxed doctor, in the sense that he won’t bring up an issue that he may be concerned about unless you do first. Dr. Coles, is very much more proactive about his diagnoses and treatment. For instance, we noticed a strabismus in my son’s right eye at 16 months, so we took him in. Dr. Koursh was not available, so by default we went with Dr. Coles, and thank goodness we did. He immediately checked him and got the ball rolling for treatment. He also asked how it had gone undiagnosed for so long (ahem… looking at you, Dr. Koursh). Since moving to Dr. Coles, we have needed a gamut of referrals. Well, since entering the practice 2 ½ years ago, we’ve needed referral after referral.
And, here’s were my problem lies. The doctor themselves can be the best doctor in the world, but if they’re poorly run by their staff, then they’re really as good as that staff, since you will spend the majority of your time dealing with them. As I previously mentioned, we’ve needed referral after referral, for different therapies and services. There has never been one instance where I have not had to call back multiple times and pester them to put our referral through, after waiting for weeks for it to come in the mall, as promised.
This last instance takes the cake. We were referred out to another doctor who recommended yet another referral, two months ago. The way our insurance is set up, it requires our primary doctors office to put it through. As I normally do, I called to follow up on the referral request, and I’m told that it was not received, and then was asked to call the other doctor myself to prompt them to resend it. Why they couldn’t do this themselves, is beyond me. So, I did what was asked of me, and then followed up the next day to make sure it was received. Wouldn’t you know it… It wasn’t. They finally offer to call this doctor for me, to get the necessary information, and assure me that the referral will be put through ASAP. As they usually take about a week to process, I waited. A week passes, and no referral has been received (surprise!). I call back, yet again, to see what the deal is. «Oh, we dont have any notes in our system, can you call the other doctor to ask them to send them?» Ugh. So I call the other doctor… Again. Again, I follow up the next day, and it WASN’T received. What is going on?! Are they using a carrier pigeon?! At this point, as you can imagine, I’m pissed. THIS TIME I’m told that the person who I spoke to didn’t even bother to note that they spoke to me. «But, I’m not saying you didn’t call», he says. Ugh. I tell him the entire situation, and then he tells me he will call the other doctor. Since I lit a fire under his ass, he didn’t waste any time calling me back to tell me «oh, the reason we haven’t received anything, is because the doctor hasn’t finished his notation». Oh really?! Because I’m pretty sure he’s been asking us if we’ve gotten the referral and set up an appointment now, for TWO MONTHS. I’m not buying that for a second. Anyway… He claims that he will call and «force» them to send over the information, so I will get the referral. And wouldn’t you know it… Not only did I receive it in 3 days, but to overcompensate (clearly they knew they screwed up) I also reviewed multiple copies of referrals from months ago, and to doctors we have already seen. Wow. Just… Wow. I’m so close to changing practices altogether because of their clearly incompetent staff, but the thought of getting to know a new doctor and explaining our whole history again, gives me a headache. There’s no doubt that Dr. Coles will he hearing about our situation at our next appointment, and I’ll bring phone records if necessary. This is completely unacceptable.
So, long story short, if you never, ever, have to deal with the front staff, you’re golden. If in the unfortunate event that you do have to deal with them, may God help you.

We were at Dr. Koursh’s for my baby’s 4 month check up. I knew something was wrong with my son’s eye development because his eyes were darting back and forth, and he still wasn’t focusing on objects, so I told this to Dr. Koursh and asked if he might have some kind of eye disorder.
After chuckling at me, he said, «that’s why we tell you mothers to never go online, If you look up anything else, I’m going to have to take away your internet!» Completely dismissing what i was saying, he assured me my baby was fine & gave very little attention to my worries. He made me sound like a looney mom for being concerned and trying to inform myself. I changed pediatricians that day.
After visiting an ophthalmologist, we learned our son was currently legally blind, with ²⁰⁄₈₀₀ vision at best. We were referred to a specialist in neuro-​opthalmology in hopes of finding a diagnosis for his vision impairment. Never dismiss a mother’s intuition!
This doctor’s attitude is nothing but pretentious and self-​important. It seems as if he has 10 pre-​written cookie-​cutter answers to every question or concern you may have, and is always reciting the same script over and over again, never individualizing his patient’s care.

This Dr will go above and beyond being a Doctor, and not a pharmaceuticals dispenser. He has no tolerance for parents that want to be their children’s friend, and he values direct contact and feedback with and from the parents. My daughter has been sick seldom, the few times she has been ill, she developed bad coughs. Koursh insisted we make every effort to visit him every few days if necessary so he can closely listen for development of a lung infection, refusing to give antibiotics pre emptivly. He let her fight, and she pulled through every time. Yes, she and we suffered because we had to fight this. Sleepless nights, took turns using our few days of of work. Yet we didn’t compromise our child’s chance to fight and win. He is stern with his advise, don’t treat your child like a friend, do what you have to. A sick child is no time to show weakness, he will encourage you to be a great parent, and will know exactly how help you in your corner. This Dr will walk the line that it takes to be great, not just prescribe and call it a day.

We’re back with Dr. Koursh! YES!!! He’s still just as amazing as he was 10 years ago and spent so much time with us, answering questions, talking about health, nutrition and other issues with my son. Nice to have an authoritative voice backing up what mom says (13 year old boys think moms don’t know much). His office staff is still awesome and I’m SO happy to be back — even if I have to drive from Riverside. Worth every moment of traffic!!!

It was very hard to see another pediatrician after we moved out of Los Angeles. I loved Dr. Koursh as my baby’s pediatrician.
Dr. Koursh took very good care of my baby since he was born until he was 6 months, that’s when we changed locations and had to change dr. due to the distance. But during the time my baby was his patient, Dr. Koursh was great. I feel my baby was in very good hands. Dr. Koursh is very gentle, gives complete information on how to provide your baby with the best environment possible and making sure baby is getting what he should according to his stage.
I highly recommend Dr. Koursh and I will definitely miss him now that we moved.

I am very surprised by all the negative reviews. I have a toddler son and had good experiences with Dr. Koursh. My son is a patient of another doctor within the same medical group. We saw doctor Koursh several times because his doctor was not available. We had the most pleasant experience with doctor Koursh. My son has always been very scared of going to the doctor and refused to let his doctor check him out. Most of the time, we had to force him to let the doctor check on him and my son would cry and scream which is very hard for me to watch. However, Dr. Koursh was very very patient and was able to get my son to relax by talking to him and distracted him with questions while examined him. My son was cooperative and did not cry the last two times seeing this doctor. He responded well with Dr. Koursh and actually asked for him after being seen by this doctor twice. He was never rude to us and took the time to answer all the questions I had (first time mom !) We never felt put down or rushed at our visits. He gave me good information during our visit and I like the fact that he cared about my son’s fear of doctors and tried to made him feel more comfortable. It is unfortunate that Dr. Koursh has some negative reviews here but we definitely like him and will continue to ask for him for our future visits.

Finding my daughter another pediatrician! I have never written a negative review but I have to draw the line in the sand — I am NEVER going back to this office again. Every apt I had made I have waited at least an HOUR but my last apt solidified my decision to leave this doctor office: I showed the doctor a rash that my daughter had developed on the side of the head in the one of the first appt we had and he brushed me off. I had to come back the following week because it had progressed to ring worm. I let it go because he took time and answered questions, was generally knowledgeable, etc during each encounter — he never lets you feel rushed, I will give him that… He gave me a one week treatment (over the counter) and sent me on my way. After a week, the ringworm cleared up but developed on the other side of her face — I was worried. I called the doctor and made an apt for the following day. I was roughly 10 minutes late and was reminded as I approached reception –they said that I would have to wait about 30 minutes because the next apt was on time but that I would be next… no problem with me… After being called into the waiting room, I waited and waited (keep in mind they asked to leave the baby undressed so the doctor could look her over)…after 2 LONG hours in a SMALL waiting room with a 5 month old we demanded to speak with the manager on duty that was rude and unapologetic. She said he went into another apt and was unsure how long we would wait, even after 2 hours… so I took my child and LEFT!!! Are they OUT OF THEIR MINDS!!! this office is A JOKE!!!

I had the most horrific experience with this Doctor. It has taken me a long time to write this review. The more I look back on the first week of my son’s life the more I feel that I was robbed of some amazing moments.
I had a very long labor (50 hours) and was released from the hospital only a day and a half after I gave birth. Dr Koursch released our son and never mentioned his jaundice levels were high. I got home to the east side and was so excited to be home with my 2 day old son. We sat in traffic for an hour and finally got in the house. Ten minutes later the phone rang and Dr. Koursh told me that my son’s bilirubin levels were extremely high and I had to get him to the emergency room IMMEDIATELY!!!
My husband and I were so scared and we rushed to the hospital. Of course at that time it was rush hour and we had to sit in traffic for another hour. Our little boy was SCREAMING and we tried to pull over a few times so I could feed him but he was over hungry and wouldn’t latch. I was also a total amateur at breastfeeding and feeding him in a cramped car on the side of the highway did NOT work. We finally got to the ER and had to wait in a cramped, full room with sick, coughing people. My son was only 2 days old and I was terrified he was going to get something serious from being so close to so many sick people. We filled out all the paperwork and were so scared for our little man.
We were seen by a doctor and they did some more testing. About four hours later the testing was complete and they said that his jaundice levels were a little high but that was normal and not something to be too concerned about. The doctor said the most important thing to help the jaundice was rest and lots and lots of breast milk. I tried to feed him while in the hospital but we had so many doctors in training coming in and out I was nervous and couldn’t latch my son. :(I felt like such an awful mother and a complete failure. Keep in mind I was still recovering from my labor and had not had more then two hours of sleep in a row. My husband and I got home at almost midnight and we were both EXHAUSTED. I stayed up most of the night trying to feed our baby and help his jaundice.
8 am the phone rings and Dr. Koursh says again we have to come in immediately! I ask why because the ER doctors told us to stay home, rest and breastfeed as much as possible. He tells me to get the the office right away unless I wanted to harm my child. Koursh told me that our babies levels were extremely high and we needed to get them checked again right away.
My mother was staying with us to help with the baby. She used to be a nurse and also a midwife. She though the doctor was out of his mind. It was raining and I had to drag my 3 day old son out in the rain and make the drive across town again. (I wish I lived closer but the doctor’s were closest to my work when I was pregnant and we were going to switch medical groups as soon as the baby was a few months old.)
We got to the office they pricked our little guys feet 5 TIMES to get a large amount fo blood to fill the viles !!! and told me they would call with the results. I was crying historically. Our son was in so much pain and screaming from the heel pricks, he wouldn’t eat and I knew that was needed to help with the jaundice. I was beside myself, exhausted and overwhelmed.
We went back home and the next day the same thing happened although this time we never even saw the doctor. We went to the office and had his blood checked and got back home.
We got home and what do you know. THE DOCTOR WANTED US TO COME BACK TO THE OFFICE FOR ANOTHER CHECK. I actually let the message go to voice mail and ignored the call. I stayed in bed with my baby doing skin to skin and nursed him the rest of the day. The doctor called again and said he was sending over some bilirubin lights. I used them on my son right away. I called his office and told the nurse that no way in hell would I go back to see him. She talked to the doctor and called me back to say if I didn’t go back in my baby might have brain damage from the jaundice!!!
I made an appointment with Dr. Brown f the next morning. Again we drove all the way to the doctor. Dr. Brown looked at our little man said he looked fine, his levels were not worrying and there was a lab 2 miles from our house and we could get the testing there!!! He wanted me to go home, rest and not worry.
I am SO angry when I think that this was the first week with my son. If my Dr. Koursh had checked the babies levels BEFORE he released me we could have stayed in the hospital for an extra day and been treated. I also wonder why he never mentioned that I could go to other labs and not have to drive far. After reading other reviews I see that this has happened to others. I wonder why he is pushing the bilirubin lights so much. $$$???
Anyways, I would steer clear of him at all costs and I highly recommend Dr. Brown.

We recently had a pretty nasty experience with Dr. Koursh. Long story short, he called CPS on us when we told him that we were going to see a different doctor for a second opinion. No I’m not kidding. I have full report from CPS. Literally this happened 5 days after I gave birth to my baby. For the life of me I’d never thought a doctor would do things like this. A big thank you to all the reviewers who wrote one star experiences here. Your reviews saved my day. I owe you guys big time.
I agree with one reviewer: yes, you want to avoid the whole group of doctors (they all share the same address, either suite 201 or 205), because Dr. Koursh could be on call, which was exactly what happened to us. When my son was born, our regular pediatrician was on vacation. When we went in for the two-​day checkup, we were arranged to see Dr. Koursh.
The appointment went well. Dr. Koursh seemed to be nice and friendly. He asked a lot of questions. One of them was «where does your baby sleep?» I told him that my baby sleep next to me in a bassinet.
«That’s the right answer,» he said to me, «because on the bed is allowed.»
At the time, I thought he was joking. Not until I read one of the reviews here (which mentioned he was extremely against attachment parenting) had I realized that he was not joking!
At the end of the appointment, he ordered a blood test for jaundice. A nurse came in and squeezed my son’s foot for several minutes for one tiny tube of blood. Then we went home. We got a call from the nurse in the afternoon telling us my son’s jaundice was a bit high. She told us to come back the next day to check blood again.
So, the 2^nd day – we went back and get blood draw. We didn’t even see Dr. Koursh this time. By that evening, the nurse called and told us that Dr. Koursh had ordered a photo therapy blanket to our house and we should come back again the next day. No more explanations.
When we tried the plastic blanket on my naked baby, he screamed so much. I knew he wasn’t going to sleep if we did this all night, so I decided not to use it for the night. I ended up reading on the internet all night. Interestingly, I found that many pediatricians said newborn jaundice under 20 or 25 usually does not require treatment. You think doctors are pretty cautious about giving general medical advice? This made me question Dr. Koursh’s approach. According to the nurse, my baby’s level was only 18. My baby ate well, wet and soiled diapers well. Why do we need treatment?
The 3^rd day – In the morning, I made an appointment to see another pediatrician. We called Dr. Koursh’s office and told them that we were not coming in for blood draw and we were going to see a different doctor. Guess what, mid morning, my husband got a call from Dr. Koursh. Confirming that we were not using the blanket, Dr. Koursh said he was «very concerned» about my son’s health. My husband then told him that we were not happy with how his office communicated with us and we were going to see a different doctor.
«Your son could have severe brain damage if you don’t use the blanket,» Dr. Koursh said.
My husband got so angry. What kind of doctor threaten patients with the worst scenario so as his order can be followed?! Not to say we knew that there was no danger of brain damage at this point when level was only 18. My husband then told Dr. Koursh again that we were going to see a different doctor.
«It’s your right to see a different doctor,» Dr. Koursh answered.
When my husband got home, he told me about the unpleasant phone conversation, I was quite shocked. A light went off in my head. I immediately got on Unilocal.OH MY GOD. Everything just clicked right away.
That afternoon, we went to see the new pediatrician. The nurse checked my baby’s jaundice level, by the way, with a machine like a thermometer. I was so angry when I found out that you do not necessarily need to squeeze blood out to check jaundice! We were told that my son was fine and no need for photo therapy at all. We went home, feeling all relieved.
By then it was already 5pm. The door bell rang. I opened the door, and two ladies in front of my door told me that they were from the city to investigate «a claim of child abuse and neglect.» I could not believe my eyes. When I read the Unilocal reviews, I thought this doctor was just a bit too much of his ego. But by now I realized it’s way beyond that. The two CPS ladies had to stay in my house for a whole hour to finish their procedure. At first, they were quite serious. By the end, I think they thought this was pretty ridiculous too.
I’m actually very calm now. Three months have passed since the incident. I’m very happy to say that we did not do anything about my son’s jaundice and he is as healthy as a horse now. Everyone who heard this story from us was absolutely appalled. A friend of mine texted me back when I sent her the link to Unilocal here:

A friend recommended us to another doctor in the group, but Dr. Koursch was on call when my daughter was born. After 33 hours of labor and a c-​section, I was completely drained physically and mentally — that, in addition to the hormones (of course) made for a stressful few days (that turned into a very stressful few months, but that’s for another day). I was adamant about breastfeeding, my milk wasn’t coming in, I had no idea HOW to breastfeed, if I was doing it right, I was trying to schedule appointments w/​the lactation consultants who would come by maybe once a day for 15 min, and the nurses each had a different tip or technique for me. It was horrible. I was crying pretty much on the hour, every hour, (and so was my daughter!) and this was just the first day.
This is the state of mind and being I was in when we met Dr. Koursch. He was so patient and matter-​of-​fact, took the time to explain exactly what I needed to focus on and what to expect over the next couple of days, and gave us a breakdown of when we would be seeing him/​a pediatrician over the next few months. It was EXACTLY what we needed. He did suggest we supplement w/​water, and I was okay w/​that. He said not to let the nurses supplement w/​formula, which was the confirmation I was looking for at the time. Her bilrubin levels were high so we monitored it daily and a week after she was born, he ordered lights to be delivered to our house. I never got the sense that he was over-​prescribing. In fact, as a first time mother, it was often the reality check I needed!
We value his expertise, but there are things that we, as parents, will take the liberty of adjusting to fit our family’s needs — for example, we agree w/​his general approach to solids and we waited the 6 months to start, but we started a week early w/​avocado and we’re going to hold off on rice cereal for a while and let her explore veggies/​fruits a bit more. Another example: our baby seemingly NEVER slept — he suggested CIO, which I wasn’t completely comfortable w/​, but knowing that he felt my healthy daughter would be capable of CIO gave me the confidence to research other ways of sleep training. We were able to help her learn how to fall asleep on her own and she’s been a good night sleeper ever since.
A child’s health and overall care is the result of a joint collaboration between the parents and the doctor. I encourage people to ask as many questions as possible and keep open dialogue when it comes to your child. When a doctor suggests water for a newborn, instead of then googling it and calling him out as a horrible doctor, ask him WHY he’s recommending water. When a doctor says no juice, ask him WHY no juice, then think about what your stance would be, discuss, and then make the decision for yourself. I promise you, Dr. Koursch is completely open to listening and discussing, so you, as a parent, can make the best decision for your child.

We chose this pediatric group based only on my ob/gyn’s referral as I ran out of time for interviews near the end of my pregnancy. I actually interviewed and chose another doctor in the group (Dr. Shimoyama), but Dr. Koursh was the doctor on call when my son was born. Even when I saw Dr. Shimoyama at the hospital a couple days later, she a.) didn’t recognize or acknowledge me and b.) did not come to see my son even though he was a patient in her care. Be wary of the group regardless of who you chose– I believe there are 11 doctors in the practice, so you never know who you are going to get!
I’m going to try to make a long story short here. When they checked my son’s blood work on his first day of life (routine in the hospital) they found his billirubin levels «a bit high.» This is what causes jaundice (btw, ALL babies have jaundice when they are first born!!). Dr. Koursh ordered my son to be in the special UV lights and he had to stay there for 2 days after I was released and then they finally sent him home with more lights. It was heartbreaking to leave my new baby at the hospital when I was going home and exhausting to have to drive back and forth to feed him. Not to mention the adjustment coming home with the added stress of the in-​home lights.
Anyway, I found out after the fact by many people, medical professionals, lactation consultants, even the technician who dropped off the lights, that his levels where no where near dangerous! In fact, they were hardly above the normal range. This to me was just infuriating. Also, every time Dr. Koursh spoke to me, I felt like he was belittling me and speaking down at me as if I didn’t know anything.
Also, a couple other things: I am breastfeeding and requested no artificial nipples or supplementation. After Dr. Koursh examined my son, he wheeled him back in from the nursery with a pacifier in his mouth and recommended that I supplement with water. The APA and everything I have ever read otherwise does NOT recommend supplementing with water unless medically necessary (which at this point, it most certainly was not)!! He also tried to convince me I might need to supplement with formula after I was released and my baby had to stay. The good news is, I ignored this «advice» and threw the pacifier away and was able to successfully continue breastfeeding despite Dr. Koursh’s best efforts.
So I didn’t really keep the story too short, but I think other new, impressionable moms like I was should be forewarned about this guy, especially if you want to breastfeed, but even if you don’t. Guess who makes more money when your baby has to stay in the hospital longer?

Upon the impending arrival of our 1^st son, 5 years ago, we received a recommendation for Dr. Koursh from our beloved family Doctor of 17 years. He sees Dr. Koursh for his twin sons, so that was good enough for us.
From the beginning, we could see that Dr. Koursh was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. When our 1^st son arrived, we saw Dr. Koursh frequently the 1^st 2 years, and he provided excellent care. I appreciated his patient and thorough explanations, when I would ask about every little worry I had.
This became especially important after the birth of our 2^nd son. He has respiratory and food allergy issues that have necessitated 3 trips to the ER and 2 more visits to the hospital for a kidney problem and a hernia in just his 2^nd year. Throughout it all, Dr. Koursh gave great reassuring care and referred us to excellent speciallists when necessary.
We also really appreciate that there are 7 other excellent Pediatricians at Dr. Koursh’s practice. We have seen most of them by now and are very comfortable with them. I should mention that it is rarely difficult to get an appointment with Dr. Koursh, but sometimes we want to see someone that day, and when Dr. Koursh’s schedule is full that day, we are happy to see one of his colleagues.
Now that our 2^nd son is 3 ½, his health is excellent, and the issues that do arise are managed very smoothly. As a nervous parent, I know that the past 4 years could have been much much more stressful and nerve-​racking, but thankfully, my sons are in radiant good health and I am calm and happy with their care due to Dr. Koursh and the great Cedars Sinai Medical Group.

Okay… So he is a little straightforward and tells it to you how it is, but what’s wrong with a doctor believing in what he’s practicing? For all the negative reviews, no offense, but you guys are all nuts. (first one admits to being paranoid panicky mom, second one WANTS her son to drink soda at 8 years old, why?) He is a VERY knowledgeable doctor and honestly cares about what he’s doing. Why else would he be so «strict»? Whenever he’s on call, I get a phone call back within seconds, not hours like the other doctors in that office. He was out of town once, and I had to bring my little girl to see another doctor in that office. I felt so rushed that I forgot to ask half of what I wanted. He NEVER rushes you and always takes his time explaining everything very detailed. Everything he has suggested, advised has been right and on the dot. Honestly I don’t think there’s too many like him left around. He’s an old fashioned doctor and yes, unfortunately he can’t make everyone happy, but trust me, He’s an EXCELLENT pediatrician. It’s a shame if people believe the negative reviews without meeting him. Yanna K.

Dr. Koursh was our pediatrician for 3 years & he progressively became worse to deal with. I’ve experienced all the problems the other 3 reviewers describe. (we stayed bc our probs were toward the end) My son was first diagnosed with a dairy allergy at 4 mths. At 12 mths, when he was ready for table food, Dr. Koursh said that bc a dairy allergy shows more sensitivity than say nuts or shellfish, we would play it safe & assume he’s allergic to eggs, shellfish & nuts & not expose him to these til he was older. For 2 years, whenever we were asked whether he had food allergies, that’s what we said: yes to dairy & assuming yes to eggs, shellfish & nuts. Fast forward to the 3 yr check up… Dr Koursh reads my son’s chart & comments about how he’s outgrown his dairy allergy & asks about the others. We say we’re still only assuming about the shellfish since we don’t normally eat it. He asks (exasperated), «WAIT, why would you ASSUME he’s allergic to ANYTHING? My husband just happened to be at both of these appts with me (so he’s my witness) and we answer at the same time, „You told us to“. He flat out denied it & then begins to patronize us with a condescending speech.“that’s ridiculous, etc, etc».
Dr. Koursh is also very strict about diet, which I can appreciate, but I think he’s more about being self-​righteous & much less about concern for the kids. He stresses fresh fruit & veggies & NO JUICE, just milk or water. He asked me during a check-​up whether my son was drinking juice & I said, «yes, sporadically». He looked at me like I was feeding my son rocks & asks, «Would you give him alcohol, knowing it was bad for him? Why would you give him juice knowing it wasn’t good for him?» I tell him that I juice fresh fruits & veggies, which makes it essentially the same as giving him whole produce, & there is no chance of getting him to eat veggies otherwise. For a split second, he looks had but plays it off & says, (patronizingly) «We don’t want them to be in the habit of drinking it so don’t give him juice.» IS THIS GUY KIDDING ME? If this is the only way to get my son to have vegetables, you better believe I’m gonna give it to him.
Another thing… my son had preschool enrollment paperwork, which I dropped off & was told they could either fax directly in the next few days or I could pick up at our check –up, 3 weeks later. I chose to pick it up. At the check-​up, I also ask for a note regarding a problem that my son needs surgery for. It wasn’t a new issue, but rather something that has been addressed at almost each appt. for the past 3 years. Dr. Koursh agrees to the note & I make my way to reception to pick up the additional paperwork. 30 min. later, it still isn’t ready. They’ve had 3 weeks to complete them! When I ask, they say Dr. Koursh hadn’t filled it out yet bc he always waits til after a check-​up. WHAT? They offered to fax it to me 2 weeks ago without a check-​up! So I leave & they fax it the next day, without the note. I ask and am told Dr. Koursh won’t write the note without an exam. I WAS JUST THERE THE DAY BEFORE. The nurse & I end up going back & forth bc I refuse to waste my time & more money on another appt. Finally after 3 weeks of speaking to the nurse about this note & holding my ground, she offers to have Dr. Koursh call me. He never called. It’s been 7 months.
Obviously, we’ve since dropped him as our PCP but we have another encounter with him this past weekend. My son had bronchitis & 3 mths later, still has complications which requires him to be on antibiotics. His new Dr. stressed the need to complete the entire 10 day cycle. But on the 7^th day, we realize we’re short of meds and need a refill, so we contact the Dr on call & get Dr. Koursh. He says he won’t refill bc he’s concerned that my son is already being «overly-​medicated». WHAT? OVERLY MEDICATED? I start to panic and ask questions, then realize that no, he’s on another power-​trip. He won’t write an RX for a patient he hasn’t examined BUT he will cancel an RX that a dr. who HAS examined my son gave us. He says current dose of 10 days seems like overly medicating my son but later says in differnt context that a normal cycle is 7,10,even 21 days. Close to end of convo he says, «WHY DO YOU KEEP SAYING WE’RE OVERLY MEDICATING HIM?» «STOP USING THOSE WORDS!» HUH? Those were HIS words I was repeating! My husband and I almost fell out of our chairs in disbelief. AND, you realize that if my son stops taking the med before the cycle is done, the bacteria might not be fully gone & he may have to start an entirely new cycle of antibiotics, right? Hey, DR KOURSH, 2 cycles of antibiocs = WAY MORE medication than 1 cycle, you jerk! He didn’t refill and we’re back on antibiotics.
If you choose to have him as your Dr., get in the habit of recording ur convo with him bc a dr. who forgets what they say is bad news. Condescending, Forgetful, Patronizing, Self Righteous, Not realistic.

OKAY. I should probably calm down before I write this review, but I am so heated right now. I called the pediatrician on call because my baby has a cold, and developed a rash that was unlike one I have seen before. I had read rashes for meningitis has particular symptoms, so I decided to not panic, and to be logical and call the pediatrician before rushing her to the ER. (I’m a paranoid panicky mommy, so this was big for me)
So he called me back, asked me where I had gotten my information and told me that I needed to find something better to do with my time than put salt into irreputable sources. (Okay, may be true, but HEY! A little courtesy?!)
Then he said, remember when I asked if she was vaccinated? And I said, no, you didn’t ask me that. She isn’t vaccinated for DTAP and Hep B. He asked Why, and I said she had a bad reaction to DTaP, blah blah, asked why no Hep B and I said because she isn’t having sex or using dirty needles, and he said «Do you think we just recommend vaccines for fun?» Speechless. He proceeded to engage me in a conversation on the importance of the Hep B vaccine, etc etc. I asked if this had anything to do with her rash, and he told me no, and so I told him I didn’t want to talk to him about vaccines.
Okay, I get that everyone has their own opinions, etc. But when a worried mom calls about her baby, the LAST thing she needs is some know it all doctor talking to her about something she has no interest in and has no relevance to why she is calling. Plus, when a mom is worried and calling about her baby, it is so not the time to act like a complete a-​hole.
There should be a vaccination for YOU dr. koursh. Okay, that was juvenile, but I’m steamed.
If you have a baby, GO to another pediatrician!!!

This doctor was on call the night our baby had a high fever. He was very impatient and rude over the phone. This doctor said he would call back, never did, and instead had an office assistant (with no medical training, she indicated that she was the administrative assistant/​clerk) call back, who ended up giving us directions for the *wrong dosage* for our baby (!).
Thankfully we read the directions on the medicine package and saw that the dosage amount we were told was completely off. This is definitely an irresponsible doctor with terrible bedside manners.
