Kavan Photographic Art

First off, I want to say that Kavan produced excellent pictures for our wedding and he is a very talented photographer. But in terms of a businessman this is the worst experience I’ve had in my life.
Before we signed the contract we met with his wife who talked him up very well. She was super friendly and told us about all the great things we would be getting for our wedding. But when it actually came to fulfilling all the things she told us about, it was a completely different story.
He booked another job the morning of our wedding despite the fact that he knew he was going to have surgery right before the wedding. Because of that he was tired and missed a chunk of the reception. When arranging our wedding album he put in very little effort, adding photos with the top of my wife’s head cut off or ones we didn’t ask for. We had to go back and forth maybe half a dozen times because each time we would ask for changes he would only make maybe a quarter of them. He then told us we were too demanding and that we were «only» spending $ 10,000 and the job was requiring too much work. Suffice to say, it was not a happy relationship from that point. Eventually we got everything we asked for, but anytime we look at our wedding photos, there’s a small reminder of the horribleness they came from.

Kavan is a talented photographer, but their business practices are shady. Please remember that Kavan and Susan (Kavan’s wife) will verbally promise the moon before you buy, so make sure whatever they verbally promise you, you have them write down in your contract.
The first negative: Back in 2008 when we first met with Susan, she verbally said that our photos would be given to us on disc. After we paid and picked up our La Vie album, we were told that we would need to pay for the digital photos because it was not listed in our contract.
The second negative: We were told to pick the pictures we wanted in our La Vie album. When we got our album, they were not the pictures we chose. We were tired/​burned out from just having our wedding (and all the planning that goes along with it) and just wanted to be done with Kavan. Don’t get me wrong, the La Vie album was beautiful, it just did not have the pictures that we chose.
The third negative: The framers that Kavan uses does crappy work. The left side of our large wedding portrait, the white mat border is «bowing» or «bending» inward, like it wasn’t mounted properly. We paid a lot of money for this wedding portrait, and it’s already disintegrating 9 months after we took it. To Kavan’s credit, he’s offered to send my wedding portrait back to his framer to get it fixed free of charge. But given the trouble we’ve had with him, I’m not sure I’d risk what we have. What if we never get it back or its worse?
Like I said before, Kavan is a talented photographer, but buyer beware!

Hate this guy. He never gave me the precious photos of my toddler that were captured with him. He returned one phone call promising to give me my photos. I never got them. He was way over priced anyway.

Stunned to find that Kavan has no reviews on Unilocal!Kavan was the photographer at my & Mrs. C’s wedding, and in short, he is THE BOMB It seems to be family-​run affair, with Kavan’s wife managing the office, and Kavan being the talent. Kavan’s pricing is pretty competitive with other photographers as we compared notes with friends who got married around the same time, but with Kavan we got tremendous value. He shot our engagement photos as part of the package, and he has one of the most amazing eyes for detail and artsy-​looking photos. His sample portfolio includes weddings at some amazing venues (think $$$$$$$ & places that most of us could never afford) and his list of clients includes some celebrities as well. It wouldn’t be right for me to say whose celebrity birthday party pictures we got to see, but if you visit Kavan I’m sure you’ll get to see it.
Kavan offers your proofs posted to the web, and I’m sure that’s pretty typical these days. The photo albums for the parents and our main wedding album turned out so so so great. Kavan loves to play with light and shadows, and we got so many comments as we showed people the albums about how thoughtfully the photos are laid out, as well as the moments that he captured. I have no idea how it’s possible to be in so many places for pictures, but somehow he and his team managed to be seemingly everywhere.
Kavan came highly recommended to me by several different people, but I thought he deserved a presence on Unilocal as well. If you sit down and spend some time with Kavan, I’m sure you’ll come away amazed.
