History

Established in 1993.

Dr. Richard Sprague has been practicing dentistry in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach, California for almost 20 years. Originally, his practices were established for general and cosmetic dentistry. Specializing in the latest restorative techniques: da vinci veneers, lumineers, emax, lava crowns, bonding, laser dentistry, invisalign. Ect. In 2000, after a surfing accident in South Africa, Dr. Sprague returned to dental school and completed a specialty program in Endodontics. Since 2004, Dr. Sprague has expanded his dental services to include microscopic root canal therapy, oral surgery and dental implants. With the addition of a periodontist and oral surgeon to the practice, all phases of dental care are provided at the highest standards. Our goal is to help all patients with their dental needs large or small. We are committed to helping all patients with their dental pain management and are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

After nearly 20 years of providing dental care I have learned much about myself and the patients I serve. One will never make all their patients happy regardless of one’s effort, the price for services, or the quality of the care provided. When people are unhappy or not pleasant there are sometimes much bigger issues than dental care alone. Today with the anonymity of the internet and such sites as yelp, people can say what they want whether it has merit or not. I can’t sensor what people say or control the actions of others, but I can control my reactions. I try to stay positive, treat people with kindness and respect, say please and thank you, and be happy with my health and the love of my friends and family. Yelp did forward me access to reviews that i could post to WWW. RootCanalMan, com. Had a re-​treat 8 years ago (just had it fixed this week, hence my review). The whole time Dr. Sprague kept saying during the procedure that I might have to re-​do this root canal AGAIN down the road. Um, ok… I felt like asking, «any particular reason why?» Needless to say, the tooth hurt right after, and was told that’s normal for a root canal. 6 months later, I find out there’s still more root to do. Other issues with the practice include: having another root canal done here and having some cotton left inside the tooth, having the Dr. not tell me when the procedure was over, and just leaving me in the chair. But that all pales in comparison to having to have a tooth re-​treated a third time after having work done here.

Just the best dentist. ever.
I first met Dr. Sprague at my primary dentist as he was their specialist for root canals. He gave me his emergency line as I decided to wait out my root canal surgery due to the fact that I was yet to feel any pain (bad decision). After waiting last minute (couple months later) until I was in excruciating pain, I called Dr. Sprague’s office and he was able to make time early the next day day before his first appointment for a root canal. He asked if I was doing okay every minute or so during the procedure– which only lasted about 30 – 40 minutes. No pain, quick, comforting, professional– he is an expert. He even called that night to make sure I wasn’t in pain and that everything was okay. Will definitely continue to recommend him to everyone in need of a root canal! Thank you Dr. Sprague!

The best dentist I’ve yet come across, not only did he have the latest technology and did my root canal within 2 hours crown and all. But he constantly made sure I was comfortable and even took away his free time on a Saturday evening to come out and help me with my aching tooth. A real stand up guy, he even called a hour or two afterwards to make sure everything was okay. An amazing dude for certain.

Dr. Sprague is fantastic! I needed a root canal and with short notice, the office got me in the very next day. He’s so kind and professional, but the best thing is he is quick! My teeth are extra special I always have at least 4 canals and he finds them!

I brought my girlfriend here for a root canal. She was extremely nervous and HATES the Dentist. He calmed her down and gave her the fastest root canal ever! I’ve got to say — Impressive! Top notch Beverly Hills dentist. Has done extra training in root canals. He did a full mouth on me and it looks very natural and undetectable that I have veneers. He has the ceramist come in and do the work, same day veneers. I’m in the medical field and appreciate his professionalism and ability.

I don’t normally write reviews but I am so grateful for the incredible treatment Dr Sprague gave me at very short notice. My crown suddenly cracked that was attached to my implant and Dr Sprague fitted me in the next day at his Beverly Hills office. Because of the amazing technology he has in his office he fitted and made my tooth on site on the same afternoon! It was not only quick and efficient but once the new tooth was fitted in place it needed hardly any adjustment, really advanced stuff.
Thank you so much. My new crown is perfect so much better than what I had before I am actually glad this happened and I was able to meet Dr Sprague. I intend to come back, as does my husband.

Dr. Sprague is a wonderful dentist, and great with people. My best experience with him was for a root canal. He was very quick, and constantly asking how I was doing. He made me feel quite relaxed.
He’s also extremely available. My filling fell out right before Thanksgiving and he stayed late that night just to help me out.
The only thing I would recommend is to call before you head in to your appointment to ensure he’s running on schedule. His schedule is packed full, so he can run a little late sometimes. It would be nice if the staff would call patients when he’s running more than 15 minutes behind, so they can adjust their schedules. The staff is really friendly and accommodating though, I always have a pleasant experience.

My front tooth popped out a couple of years ago after a crown was precariously placed on a weak tooth by another dentist. I was horrified. My brother goes to Dr. Sprague and gave him a call for me. Dr Sprague fit me in the next day and was so professional and efficient. Now, two years later, the tooth has not budged, it is solid, and looks perfect, thanks to Dr. Sprague. I am forever grateful. Whenever I call, he is eager to fix whatever is wrong, he has superior knowledge, experience and tools, better than any other office I’ve been to. He really does an amazing job. Also, his staff is very attentive.

I’ve had so many awful experiences with dentists in the past, including what lead me to this office, that finding Dr. Sprague was a blessing. I was referred to his office by a friend’s dental office whom trusts his work. My visit to his office was to redo an infected root canal and man, was I not a happy camper. The right side of my face was swollen like a pumpkin and I was in excruciating pain, as you can imagine. However, Dr. Sprague and his assistants had such a pleasant bedside manner that I was instantly put at ease and was really quit impressed. Dr. Sprague is very personable and explained every step of the process before and during the procedure. Also, several times during my procedure he and his assistant asked if I was ok and to let them know if I was experiencing pain, which I never did.
I had to return for a second visit to finish the root canal because of his concern for swelling due to the depth of the infection and again, received the same outstanding service. He and his office are also very accommodating with time, scheduling my appoints late so I wouldn’t have to take time off from my busy work schedule. I even called back a week later because I was still experiencing mild pain and the dental assistant who assisted Dr. Sprague remembered me and was very kind in assuring me the pain is to be expected and will dissipate.
I would referr Dr. Sprague and his staff to my family and friends and I would certainly return myself, but I’m hoping I won’t ever have to :)

I am about an hour after having treatment and I have only good things to say. The staff was helpful & thorough. I received numerous calls from the office, including from Dr Sprague himself, leading up to my appointment and he and his staff even offered me their cellular numbers in case I needed to reach them directly. Today The Doctor walked me through each and every step of my root canal and my same day fitting for my crown, which I was given the option for. He also checked in with me dozens of times while drilling and so forth to make sure I was comfortable. I hope I’ll never need to go back for any more work in the future, but if I do need another root canal someday… I’d travel halfway across the planet to make sure he is my Doctor.

I found Dr. Sprague to be a kind and caring man. However, he has never done any work in my mouth because it is the policy of his office not to give written estimates. I’ve been around the dental block, so I refuse to have work done without a written estimate, and SO SHOULD EVERYONE because that is unbelievably ridiculous. Just look at the other reviews. They give a verbal estimate and then charge whatever they want. The office staff does not return phone calls, and they are rude and unprofessional.
UPDATE: I received a DM from this office stating, «Thanks for the note, I do not know where this comment come forms [sic]. We always give written estimates…»
I tried for the past 2 years to get a written estimate from this office for implant crowns on #30 & #31, and was directly told in November (by Joanne, I think) that they never give written estimates because insurance may not pay what they say they will, and if there’s a written estimate, patients try to hold them to it.
UPDATE #2: I will not take this review down, despite harassment from Dr. Sprague claiming this is a false and personal attack. I stand by this review. It is truthful. I did have a consultation with Dr. Sprague, and his office refused multiple times over a period of two years to give me a written estimate. My implants were placed in his office, so they had all the info needed to contact my insurance company and give me an estimate. PS. I kindly and compassionately gave 2 stars instead of 1 because he seemed like a nice guy.

«How do i explain to my kids the importance of being polite, kind, showing compassion and having humanity when the internet shows so poor examples your review being one of them.. No one wants to explain to their kids why being nice is awarded a 2 star instead of 4 or 5 star.. I am sorry for whatever is wrong in your life that feels you needed to attack me… i got slapped in the face for showing you kindness. i would appreciate it if you would remove this review. it is unjust and at any time had i given you an exam, consulted you, i would always provide you a written estimate. … could you please remove this review.»

This place is bad news. I had an appointment yesterday at 11am. I arrived at 10:55 and no one was in the office. I called their answering service and one of the office staff called me and told me they had to step out and would be there in 2 – 5 mins. Ten minutes later I call back the answering service they have no clue what is going on. I left and went to sprinkles. As I was heading back to my car I received a call from the office staff telling my they were on their way. I told them not to bother as I had left and would look for another dentist. All I got was sorry for the inconvenience. This was a total lack of respect for my time.

Thank God for Dr Sprague!!! I’m terrified of the dentist and went to Dr Sprague for root canal. I haven’t been to a dentist in years due to my fear. I expressed that to Dr Sprague when I booked the appointment. When I arrived for my appointment the staff was amazing. they made me feel very comfortable. Dr Sprague discussed everything he would do before we got started. When he did the root canal I didn’t feel ANYTHING! !!! I think I was in & out in less then 30 min. When I went back for my crown, I had the same experience of friendly, knowledgeable staff. Again, I felt nothing. He had all the top notch equipment that made the procedure quick and painless. Such a great dentist I’m so happy I found him!!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Sprague for the past 20 years and have followed him from Beverly Hills to his Newport location. He’s very knowledgeable, kind and comforting and works with the most state of the art equipment and procedures.
He provides regular dentistry in his office as well as endodontics and implants. I highly recommend him and will continue to make a long drive just to be seen in his office.

Dr Sprague quoted me a price and then invoiced me for about $ 1,500 more than the quote. I appealed the amount. About a month later, he sent me the same invoice without any follow-​up. That cycle occurred three times before his office finally agreed to respond to my correspondence. I ended up settling for less than he invoiced, but I still felt stung by having to pay more than the original quote. To make matters worse, I just found out from another dentist that his work was inadequate and needs to be redone. I also found out that 3 fillings that he performed for my son need to be redone. It appears that his dental skills match those of his business practices, at least in the case for my family. Perhaps others have had better success.

I have been seeing Dr. sprague for many many years. He has done all kinds of dental procedures and oral surgeries on me. He has had the job of FIXING most of the previouse dental work I have had done. It has been years of work and follow up. I think he is the BEST Dentist/​Oral Surgeon out there!!! He takes his time explaining everything and always making sure I am o. k!!! I
I will admit… I am a big dental chicken !! But of all the many places I have gone… I feel safest, comfortable and re assured that I am good hands every time I am there.
Since I have been seeing him for so long, I can say All the procedures we have done have stood up to time and my expectations.
I have ALWAYS highly recommended Dr. Sprague. Plus… I think the office is run proffesionally and the staff is very nice!

I went to Dr. Sprague for a root canal– referred by another dentist. The office itself and its staff are very unprofessional and did not treat me with respect. The office itself is dirty– ripped up carpet, stains, dirty equipment– not the type of place I wanted to spend my afternoon. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment. I waited over 1 hour to be taken into the office, and another 45 minutes before the dentist came to do the novacaine and procedure. The actual procedure was painless and quick (about 20 minutes). After I was finished, the dentist left the room without saying goodbye, telling me any instructions, or even telling me that I was done. A few seconds later the assistant said «you’re done» rudely and didn’t show me out. I waited about 5 minutes for someone at the desk to accept my payment and overall I was not impressed with the care I received here.
