Vosges Haut-Chocolat

This review is long over due! I first encountered Vosges in Las Vegas, the wonderful staff delightfully gave me a gourmet sample and introduce me to the world of Vosges. Upon returning back to LA, I delightfully found the retail store in Beverly Hill, too bad it closed. I love the décor of the retail, but was somewhat disappointed with the selection as it did not have the same array of European chocolate truffles that I encountered in Vegas.
Some of their delightful morsals includes: Naga® — sweet Indian curry + coconut dark chocolate, Black Pearl® — ginger + wasabi + 65% dark chocolate + black sesame seeds, I believe I also had a goat cheese dark chocolate.
It’s sad to see another closing of the artisan chocolatier store in LA. I guess I’ll just have to visit Vegas more often! Please come back to LA, I missed your chocolates.
Once you turn to artisan chocolates, you’ll never go back to the waxy Hershey’s kisses nor M&Ms. This is your grown up treat!

The sales clerk working on the Sunday I went was very friendly and welcoming, offering my friend and I a sample of some Spanish chocolate.
My friend and I came by here to check out their chocolate chip cookies, which are spoken highly by some of my foodie friends. And they were right. The cookie was enormous (4″ diameter) and thick (½″ thick), and it doesn’t contain chocolate chips. It had chocolate chunks instead, that’s melted in the middle of the cookie and provided that chocolate creaminess for the cookie. We washed the cookie down with a couple of Iced Chocolate Beverages, very refreshing.

This is likely my favorite chocolate shop in the LA area. I can’t get enough of their chocolate & baked goods (and coffee).

If you can make it to their shop it’s worth the trip. They have a small café in the back of the storefront where you can get decadent chocolate drinks and pastries. In her test kitchen Katarina also experiments with new flavor combinations, creating small batch confections only available in her store. Also, samples of many of the confections are available all over the store so be prepared to leave the store satisfied even if you don’t buy anything — though doubtful you’ll have enough will power to leave empty handed. Everything in this store is decadent, luxurious and beautiful!
Anything from Vosge makes for a wonderful gift. Ordering online couldn’t be easier with great pics of everything offered and an easy checkout process. If you live in a warm climate or it’s a warm/​hot time of the year they will charge an additional $ 10 to your order for ice packed insulated styrofoam packaging to prevent melting. Since I live in Southern California this is a small fee worth paying especially if I’m sending as a gift.
Just recently the Easter Bunny delivered his yearly basket filled with goodies from my favorite chocolatiers including Vosge chocolates. Let’s just say I’ve been passing out every night in a sugar coma…:)

I was walking by and noticed the chocolate chip cookie in the window. I bought the cookie and wow! The best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. The customer service was very good and I was informed on the after Easter Sale merchandise. I can’t wait to try their homemade almond milk in a latte!

I wish I could give this shop more than 5 stars… it was that good. Everything is beautiful & welcoming from the chocolates to the décor, packaging & staff. We enjoyed one of the best cups of hot chocolate ever… Tahitian vanilla! If you are lucky enough to come here you need to try a cookie… they are $ 6, but worth every penny… they are that good. We bought some chocolates too & when I mentioned that my birthday is next week, they even gave me a beautiful little purple box of chocolates for free!

I go here JUST for their chocolate chip cookie! That’s how good it is. The pastry chef is a delightful woman who told me about the ingredients she uses and said she had just baked my chocolate chip cookie two hours ago. I didn’t ask for any of this info, btw, she was just kind enough to let me know. The ambience here is lovely and their drinks are yummy too. Definitely worth checking out. Only downside, it’s pricey, but that cookie is well worth the $ 6. Free parking in the Beverly Hills lot a few feet away from the storefront.

I love the chocolate drink here and the matcha green bar. Great quality chocolate. I’ve never seen so many good chocolate samples in my life. very generous.

Everyone knows how good their chocolates are, but if you come to this store, it’s imperative that you try their chocolate chip cookie (see pic). It’s honestly the BEST chocolate chip cookie I have ever had in my life (sorry Mrs. Fields), and I’m pretty sure you would feel the same way after your first bite.
The chocolate chips are more like chocolate nuggets. The cookie is huge and I would say a good half an inch thick. Make sure to get it toasted or baked when you order it. And if you really want to live dangerously, order a cup of their delicious white hot chocolate along with that impeccable cookie. And that my friends, is heaven right there.
While you’re waiting for your order, you can also help yourself to the free samples that’s in front of their gourmet chocolates (don’t mind if I do, thank you very much). Finally, if you work in the area, you get a 10% discount on your purchase too! What more can you ask for? NOTHING! ENJOY!

The staff was so welcoming. I love their chocolates! Became a fan long ago. There were five kids with us. The manager, and Sam were so kind to our kids. They encouraged us to try different flavors and I found my new fav! It was so hot and humid on the day we visited. They made us feel so welcomed. They also knew right off the bat about possible allergic ingredients.
Thank you for a great experience! (so much better than ordering online)

We tried several that sounded out there, like mushroom & walnut, guajillo and chipotle, all great but a bit too bitter for my taste.
What won me over and I couldn’t leave without was the Bapchi’s caramel toffee.
OMG, that ish is good!!!
Like really, really, REALLY good, my husband got the red fire toffee, more his thing, $ 20 each for half a pound.
Worth every penny, easy 5 stars if the price were half that, I would buy a box every week.
Service is excellent, they are well informed but still casual enough that you don’t feel bad reaching for that third sample.
One of my favorite places for chocolate and great gifts to take home when in Beverly Hills.

I love this place I been a few times great service great people. I had Bianca white chocolate on ice drink. Stumbled in here the first time after having tea at the Montage and thought, wow… what a find! Bacon toffee? Who does that?! It was CRAZY delicious! Little did we realize this was just the beginning of their fabulous (and unique!) flavor combinations!
The other thing I love about Vosges is that they have samples of almost everything so you can try it before you commit to a big box of it. I think of all the gourmet chocolate stores in BH, this is definitely my favorite and what I consider the most worthy of a special visit.
Be warned, that it is a smidge on the pricey side but considering it’s BH it’s kinda par for the course. ;)

There are cheese snobs, there are wine snobs, and then there are a few people like me who are chocolate snobs, who attend tastings and who follow the Academy of Chocolate awards like most people follow the Oscars. Just had to throw that out there to preface this review.
Vosges suffers from the thrill of trying to do it all. Are they a general confectionery, chocolatier, bakery, or something else? They sell everything from peanut butter bonbons to chocolate chip cookies to truffles, and while some of their items are quite good, the vast majority are simply mediocre, most likely due to insufficient time and energy devoted to the product.
Let’s start off with the good: Vosges does some very interesting flavored bar chocolates. While they’re overdoing it on the current «chocolate with sea salt» trend, a few of the milk chocolate bars are quite impressive. The Barcelona bar begins with a woody tone, then becomes almost fruity as the almonds take on a plum-​like taste, and then finally ends with the salt. Another of my favorites is the subtle Gogi berry bar.
The bad: Unfortunately, the chocolate itself seems to be a second thought. While they seem to be particular about where their salts and more exotic ingredients come from, there is no attention paid to where their cocoa beans come from. Anybody who knows anything about chocolate knows that different beans have different flavor profiles, but they seem to be all muddled together with Vosges products. This couldn’t be more apparent than with the truffles. While the unique flavor pairings are great (my favorites are the curry powder and olive oil truffles), the centers are mediocre at best. It’s chocolate for the sake of chocolate. This is also the reason that their dark chocolate bars aren’t popular among cocoa enthusiasts. Vosges is not the high-​end chocolatier that it pretends to be.
The ugly: Vosges seems to fall prey cultural whims. They’re currently selling Hunger Games-​themed truffles that are not impressive in the least. Their Christmas-​y products (gingerbread and candy cane bars, etc) are downright terrible. I wish Vosges took more pride in their products and would stick with what they do best.
All that being said, the vast majority of people don’t give a hoot about the flavor profiles of various cocoa subspecies and will enjoy Vosges for its fun, unique chocolate offerings. And for that I’ll award 3 stars.

Vosges was one of the few stores open around Rodeo Drive on New Year’s Day so we ducked in.

Don’t mind the little Asian girl going through every single sample (at least 10) twice each. =P I loved the exotic flavors like the mushroom & walnut. Gogi berry was a close second.
I wish I could buy one of the gift packages … so gorgeously packaged, but way too much chocolate. We ended up with 2 bars of «Hunger Games» chocolates as gifts (7.50 $ each). They also do corporate chocolates, which was a neat offer.

Go a little further for delicious blue bottle coffee, american table teas, cookies as large as muffins, and delectables that you’ll want to dance to in your dreams. =)

If you’ve only seen Vosges Chocolate Bars in the markets, you need to visit their store and check out all of their other varieties of chocolates. I recommend the caramels. They have a great selection of interesting flavors, and they’re perfectly sized.
Their truffles are also pretty good, and I got a box of their «Exotic» truffles with flavors from all over the world. It was an interesting selection.
For anyone that loves chocolates, you have to check out their store because they have a GREAT selection of chocolates for you or for someone else as a gift.
I also love their packaging and colors. It’s a great-​looking store with delicious chocolates.

I never thought it could, but after attending the Unilocal event with my big bro Guillermo C., and sinking my teeth into the luxurious creamy truffle… I thought… well… maybe chocolate CAN be sexy!
I told the sweet girls at the shop, «I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE! Please adopt me and keep me at this shop!»
[+1] Their chocolates are SO bizarre/​strange but they taste so delicious! I’ve tried their medleys of spicy chocolates, their bacon chocolates, and their peppermint chocolates! They were so good! Normally I’m not a fan of spicy chocolate because I’ve tried it before from other places and they cause my nose to shrivel up something awful, but not here! It’s the right pinch of smooth and flavored. Their toffee is also amazing too!
[+1] Their chocolate shots are amazing, so smooth and creamy! Their powder doesn’t choke you (have you tried inhaling powder before and not choke?), it just glides smoothly and it’s like you’re drinking heaven!
[+1] Their packaging is unbelieveably beautiful! They have these gorgeous packages that look like vintage, Victorian purple books that just remind me of the old tomes you find in libraries that house classics.
[+1] The décor inside is absolutely beautiful and so fashionable! You’ll feel like the chocolates are housed alongside luxuries like typical boutiques on Melrose and of course, Beverly Hills!
[+1] The prices are pretty reasonable! It’s not super cheap, but it’s not ridiculous either. A regular bar is around $ 7.50 ish. Great for gifts! [:
Tip: This place is close to a couple great restaurants if you know what I mean! :D

This place is small and very stylish. They offer a wide variety of delicious candy and cookies. Many gift options as well as single items if your just looking for a treat for your self that day. This place has wifi and can be a small study place during the day. The prices are a bit high for what you are getting but the presentation of everything is very nice and well done. Their theme is purple with boxes and wrapping. Near the back of this place they have a small chocolate creation location where you can see them baking and creating flavors. Which is nice to see :) Excellent location and parking is right next door for a flat rate of $ 5.00
Candy and cookies I tasted were delicious, so going in getting a nice treat for yourself or a gift for someone else, this is a good place to start!
They lost a star just because its a bit over priced for candy and sweets.

Friend and I went a little cray cray here, even if we did take most of it to go.
The good:
the homemade smores, parisienne chocolat chaud (tahitian vanilla), chocolate chip cookie with housemade almond milk, chocolate chip toasted marshmallow cookie with housemade hazelnut milk, and barcelona bar
The bad: banana donut, apple cider sliced cake, the brownie
It may seem a little outrageous to pay $ 7 for a cookie and some nut milk, BUT IT ISN’T. The nut milk is sooo fresh and cold, they put medium sized ice cubes in it and shave fresh nut on top. Amazing. This has inspired me to learn how to make almond milk at home hahaha.
Service was a little awkward at first but then they warmed up to us, probably when they figured out how gluttonous we were hahaha.
Bueno! Better than Godiva, folks!
