At the Deborah Coull Salon we offer exclusive Aveda services in a relaxing environment. Each service includes complementary stress relieving rituals to help you unwind and experience Aveda to the fullest, these include complementary hand massages, scalp neck and shoulder massage, mini cleansing facials at the sink while your hair is washed and our Aveda comforting tea served chilled or hot.

We are a full service salon and offer all your beauty needs. All of our team members receive the latest in Aveda training and education to provide you with the highest quality service. Relax and enjoy!

History

Established in 2000.

The Deborah Coull Salon was established at our first location in Gloucester MA, in 2002. The founder and owner Deborah Coull started as a faithful Aveda user with her guests as an aesthetician for over 26 years and opened a full service salon to expand her passion of caring for the well being of her guests and others.

Over the years Deborah Coull has created a culture in her establishments that evokes relaxation and nurturing for the mind and body in a sanctuary environment, we work towards connecting with our communities and bettering the environment not just locally but throughout the Aveda network globally.

At the Deborah Coull Salon we strive as a team to create a unique and relaxing experience. Diane Medeiros Arroyo is our Salon Manager, Lead Aesthetician, Make-​up Artist and Nail Tech. She has been in the beauty industry for fifteen years. Danielle Randolph, our Senior Stylist and Salon Coach has eight years experience as a stylist. Amanda Quinn, our Junior stylist, has been a stylist for 8 years. Cathi Cusumano, our Junior Stylist has been with the team for 4 years. Elyse Saunders our newest team member has been in the industry for 8 years. These girls, all Aveda trained, are ready to offer the latest in Hair Color Customization, Cutting Techniques, and Stress Relieving Spa services.

Super nice people, laid back, and easy atmosphere. I have been going to Elyse for a few years, followed her from her last place, and I like this location better.
Elyse is great and happily indulges my crazy hair wants and frequent changes of those wants. Seeing her Tuesday to get all fixed up.

I visited Deborah Coull Salon for the first time this week since moving to Beverly, and I received the best cut I’ve ever had in my entire life from Elyse. She listened carefully to what I wanted (add in a lot more shorter layers without making it choppy) and gave me exactly that. She also gave me an incredible blowout — the only time I’ve actually left a salon feeling fabulous. A lot of stylists I’ve been to struggle with my hair texture (I have a TON of fine, curly to wavy hair), but Elyse got it. So glad to have found my new salon! I won’t be going anywhere else.

UPDATE (10÷2÷15): It is now time for color (and a trim I suppose, although the cut still looks great), and of course Elyse is booked to the hilt! I shouldn’t be surprised, I’ve just never had someone so good before, so I’ve never had to call so far in advance. So for the first time in my life, I am going to take time off from work to get my hair done. Elyse is that good. But you knew that already if you’ve read these reviews…
ORIGINAL REVIEW (8÷28÷15):
I am so happy with my haircut — and color — that I almost can’t wait to go back to Elyse, but it will be a while before I have to! Finding someone you can really trust with your hair is so hard, and I’ve been «between hair stylists» for a while. So when I needed my hair done before an important event I checked Unilocal and went to Deborah Coull. Elyse was great «under fire» when I told her I needed my hair to look great, but gave her little else to go on. I’m most concerned with how it’s going to look when *I* do my hair, and don’t want to have to fuss much beyond a blow-​dryer. She NAILED it! Not only did my hair look great the next day, but it’s been looking great ever since. I gave her practically no direction on color (other than «highlights) and it is the most natural, youthful, color I could have possibly asked for. Thanks, Elyse — can’t wait to come back, but it might be a while :) Oh, and the salon is everything everyone says it is, calm, clean, and comfortable, and very friendly and accommodating.

I love getting facials from Diane. She does a great job at making you feel relaxed and talking you through everything she is doing. I wouldn’t go to anyone else for my eye brow waxing either. She’s simply the best!

Elyse is the first person to actually listen to what I said about my hair and did a fabulous job on the cut. It wasn’t so much that I left looking like the picture that I brought in, but that the cut/​style is one I can replicate everyday without being a professional. I also very much appreciate that there is no product push at the salon… they let what they do and what they use speak for themselves. Thank you!

I have been going to Elyse now for maybe 5 years. I followed her from her previous salon and I will follow her anywhere. She constantly deals with me and my ever changing hair colors, she’s so great to talk to and more importantly, she knows what she is doing.
The salon itself is amazing-​small but comfy and has this amazing calm feeling to it. Cannot beat the prices either. You get top notch city quality for ½ the cost.
Go see Elyse. You’ll thanks me later.

It’s been 4 years that I’ve been coming here, and it’s still 4 stars. If I could give 5, I would! I’ve been coming to Diane regularly for facials for the last four years, and she has performed a miracle on my skin. And Cathy, my hair stylist, is truly wonderful.
Upon walking in, you immediately get the feel of a full spa experience — I honestly count down the days as my appointments approach!

I have been going to Elyse for 3 or 4 years now, having followed her over to Deborah Coull Salon. I love her! My hair always looks beautiful when I leave. I never feel like I got a bad haircut or a bad color. Elyse is a perfectionist and she really knows what she’s doing. I have dark, almost black hair and she’s helping me lighten it without going brassy, etc. I’m super impressed by her and can’t recommend her enough!
And the salon is so nice — love the décor! Prices are very good and of course, you can’t beat Aveda products!

Just went to this salon yesterday. Kathy did a corrective color in my hair. I went into the salon with oxidized, brassy color and stained ends (plus about an inch of root). We talked for a bit and decided on a partial foil. Kathy did way more than what I would consider a partial foil and pulled very small, fine sections. The result is an extremely natural look in COOL BROWN tones (something so very hard to get). The price was a welcome surprise– under a hundred dollars with complimentary facial to boot! I’ll definitely be back, Kathy was amazing.
Excellent all around! I enjoy this location over the Gloucester salon.

I have super thick, super curly hair that’s been processed a million times over so I’m very particular about who handles it. Emi in Gloucester was brilliant from consultation to cut, product to styling. All of the employees are warm, sincere, and knowledgable and the salon is kept in near pristine condition. Highly recommend!

Deborah Coull Salon did the hair and makeup for myself and my bridesmaids. They listened to what I wanted and created a beautiful look. They incorporated the accessories that we brought along. They opened early on a Friday morning to get us out, and made it all ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend them.

I’ve been going here since they first opened their doors and I can’t say enough good things! Brought my wedding party here to all get our hair and makeup done which turned out to be the perfect way to start the day and everyone looked amazing!
Diane is BEYOND incredible… I’ve had many facials by her and they are hands down, the best (I have had many in the past so have different places to compare to). She also waxes my eyebrows and does the best job. We moved away from Beverly years ago, and my husband still gives me a hard time because I drive 30 min away to get my eyebrows done by her… she is the best!

I’ve been to salons all around the country, San Diego, Dallas, New York and Boston (Newbury Street) and the Deborah Coull Salon in Beverly, especially Amanda, has given the best service and styles I’ve ever had! Amanda recently had a redo and when I saw it, it was so perfect, I was inspired to duplicate it, if possible. Well, she did it! It’s the best style I’ve ever had.
The Salon in Beverly is so clean and fresh with the friendliest most accommodating staff and I LOVE going there for cuts, color, styling and products.

I have been going to this Salon since it opened about 5 years ago. Everyone who works here is terrific! I always feel so pampered and well taken care of. I have had 3 stylists and they were terrific! My hair is very thick and curly and difficult to work with. These stylists do wonders! My color always looks natural. And the prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend this salon.

As a college student who was new to the area in 2009, I wandered all over Beverly looking for a good eyebrow wax. I am extremely picky about my eyebrows and after ending up with some poor results from another salon, I took to the internet to find a better place and found the Aveda salon. I have been getting my eyebrows waxed by Diane ever since.
The salon is exquisitely clean and sanitary and has really nice décor. The waxing room is also very clean and comfortable.
My eyebrows are very difficult to wax. They have been waxed by many different people and also grow in differently (arches are different on either side). However, Diane always finds a way to make them look great. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in her work.
I have been to just about every salon in Beverly and none of them compare to her work. I would not hesitate to have other services done here. I have and will continue recommend her and this salon to anyone who asks.

After trying a couple of other salons in the area I decided to try this one because it had great reviews on Unilocal and I couldn’t be happier!
This is definitely my «go-​to» place for a haircut and possibly for manicure and waxing which I’m gonna try in my next visit.
My stylist was Danielle. She’s very nice, welcoming, made me feel comfortable and like someone else said here about Nikki, Danielle was also completely in tune with what I wanted. I love my new hairstyle, I love the place, I love the products she used on my hair and I definitely recommend Deborah Coull Salon.

I decided to visit this salon after seeing its reviews here. Before today, I hadn’t been to a salon in over 4 years. I have super long hair, and it seems like stylists see that as an opportunity to do something really dramatic. After a few really bad haircuts, I decided to just let it do its own thing and trimmed the ends at home.
Nikki was my stylist and from the moment I sat down she was completely in tune to what I was looking for. Three inches off the length, a few long layers, and an angle in the front. She has a great eye for putting the angles and layers in the right place to flatter a face.
The end result of the haircut is obviously the most important thing for me, but the complimentary stress-​relieving massage and mini facial are a BIG bonus! And the end result was great, so I will definitely be going back.
Oh, and I hate it when salons try to push lots of products on you. I don’t use product on my hair usually, so I don’t like being told I «need» something. They didn’t do that at all. Nikki asked if I would like to see any products, I said no thanks, and that was that. No «Are you sure? It might do something about those flyaways…» or «Well, your hair really needs this…»
Everything about the experience was positive, and it even ended up being less expensive than I expected.

I wanted to be back in the folds of an Aveda salon… and had moved to a new town. So I did a search for salons in the area and decided to try Deb Coull Salon. Wow am I glad I did!
From the time I walk in til the time I leave, every single time, I feel welcome, pampered and at home. The staff is really nice, the treatments and services I’ve gotten have all been great.
For a curly haired girl, trying a new salon can come with some serious trepidation. Cuz if it goes wrong, it goes really wrong. But I’m sold… lock, stock and not-​so-​smoking hair diffuser barrel.
