They just catered my brother’s wedding and let me say they left a lot to be desired.
They showed up on time and started unpacking. I spoke with them briefly to inquire about them needing the kitchen at the venue for anything. They assured me they did not. Five minutes later they came to me and told me they needed the kitchen for extra storage. That was a bit annoying as we had stored a lot of things in there during set up and it was not easy for us to clear it out right away. Still it was not a major issue.
They set up and told my father they’d be back later to collect all their stuff and would even wipe down the tables that the food was on. After inspecting their set up we realized there were a few issues.
They did not bring any cups for the beverages they’d brought. They set up the coffee and water etc, but provided no cups. When asked about this they said it wasn’t in the contract so the cups would be an extra charge if they had to provide them. So my father at this point has to leave the wedding which is in progress to go get cups for all of our guests.
They provided us six 12 packs of soda which they just opened and set on chairs near the food table. They were supposed to provide a cooler to place the soda in which was not done. The soda was served warm for the entirety of the wedding.
They were supposed to provide a salad that did not contain any strawberries and a fruit salsa that also did not contain strawberries. We had a couple of people there allergic to strawberries. This was not done. All the salad and the fruit salsa contained strawberries.
Finally after the wedding was over at about quarter after nine we still had not seen the caterers back to collect their stuff. I called them and was informed that tear down and return of their stuff was our responsibility and that to have them come out would be an extra charge. Also they would not be out that night to do any sort of clean up or pick up. When it was brought up that they had told my father they’d be back they said he was lying and that they’d never said that. It was said exactly like that. They didn’t say perhaps he’d misheard them, they didn’t say perhaps it was a misunderstanding they flat out said he’s a liar.
So we had to find a way to pack all of their stuff up and clear it out of the hall as to leave it there would incur an extra charge from the venue and an extra charge from them for not returning it.
Finally, this was not cheap. We paid a decent amount of money for this catering service. Given the price paid things like picking up their equipment and providing cups should have been a given in my opinion. Trying to nickel and dime your customer the way they did with extra charges for foam cups etc. is pretty unprofessional.
This is a local catering service operating out of a local grocery store. I would like to think they’d try a bit harder to treat their customers better. Even if we did misread or otherwise fail to understand the clean up portion of the contract that whole situation could have been handled better by them. My father should not have been called a liar and instead of being unyielding and hostile about the clean up they should have offered some sort of compromise.
So, I’d say avoid this place for your catering needs. It doesn’t seem like they’re there for the people they’re catering for. Instead it seems like they just want your money and couldn’t care less about the experience they’re offering their customers. I will certainly never use them again. I would also be reluctant to shop at the grocery store associated with them a I’d wonder what their customer service would be like.
