Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina

A nice place to stay. A long way from Key West but that’s relative. About a 60 miles round trip. Right on the water. Great place for kayaking. Can take a long walk in abandoned bridge. We were with a group and the resort could not have been Mir accommodating.

food was great eveything else was just ok…

Not a good place to go, broke down fish camp docks in disrepair a lot of dirt, laundry in disrepair no internet floods every time it rains management has no clue on how to treat people. Once you pay you are trash. Understaffed so if you have a complaint it never gets fixed. Expensive for what you get.

Incredibly mis-​managed RV park. Cannot be called a «Resort». We have wintered at this place for 8 winters and it has been less than poorly managed the whole time. The local manager is only a puppet for the Encore incompetent management. They have slick Ad’s and photo’s for this place but what you see is not what you get. I will list just a few current issues. For the 3 ½ months we have been here this season there has been basically no internet access. We are expected to pay $ 35 per month for a useless internet access. The WiFi is either broken completely or it is overwhelmed with users and is basically useless. The clubhouse has had zero A/​C and no fix is in sight at mid season. Yes you do need winter time A/​C in a crowded club house in the Keys. The laundry room floods if more than 4 washers are run at same time. This creates a dangerous electrical shock and slipping hazard. Many sites completely flood with and significant rain. The sewers are always clogging and the repair at various sites is nasty and not pleasant to see or be around especially if it’s your site or nearby. The marina docks have always been a disaster waiting to happen. This year they did some repair but it is half done and still we have many unstable dangerous docks. They do seem To have money (directed and ear marked by Encore management) Cosmetic improvements so the place appears more appealing from the hiway. NOW on top of all of this they are raisng rates by an OBSCENE amount. They are expecting long time loyal guests to pay 25% — 50% more to stay at a park that has no regard for their guest by refusing to make their advertised amenities usable and pleasant. No way Jose!!! Read all of the reviews on the other review sites before you decide to spend your money here.

We really enjoyed this place! Called on December 26^th and were able to get an RV space for that day and 2 additional nights. Individual who answered the phone was very helpful and accommodating. My kids loved the marina – we could see small schools of fish swimming right off of the dock, several jellyfish, and also got lots of manatee interaction right there! We were able to pet manatees early in the morning right from the dock. Views were extraordinary, and we had no issues with noise even though the park was nearly full. Our campsite was closer to the highway, so of course there was some highway noise. However, our A/​C ran most of the night so it was drowned out. If you stay here, go to Sunset Grille right across the 7 mile bridge. Our proximity to that place is what made us love Sunshine Key resort even more!

Do you have a «Reverse Bucket list»? That is a list of places you dont want to visit or see before you die. Dear Unilocal reader, I would beg you to place Sunshine Key Rv «Resort» firmly atop your reverse bucket list. My fault for not doing enough research on this and other web sites and I got spanked for not doing my homework.
Red flag#1 — When I walked in to the office to check in, I waited as one of the ladies working was on the phone talking to the region or coroporate office about a prior resident who had been complaining about their stay here. gulp.
Red flag#2 — As I drove through the facility to get to my «premium» beach front site, I came to the conclusion that the majority of the trailers at these sites contained people who are living here on a permanent basis. Subtle clues like potted plants near the door steps, tarps used to create make-​shift carports, and cars on blocks tipped me off.
Red flag#3 — I couldnt help but notice the lovely Cuban family of twelve a few sites over, either having a family disturbance or maybe they were discussing the latest thawing of US-​Cuba government relations, who knows? Good thing the other tenants loud salsa music blaring on their radios drowned out their shouts.
Red flag#4– my beach front site had the hookups all the way up front, causing me to have to move my travel trailer inches from the street. At least this kept me further away from the dead seaweed and garbage that was floating within my view. It stunk like dead fish. We didnt really know all what was going on, but we did know one thing:
We had to get the bleep out of here.
I went back to the office and asked for a refund. the lady didnt put up a fight at all, because she knew… SHE KNEW, man. This was like the 1000^th time some unsuspecting newbie had come in here thinking they would be relaxing at a nice place only to discover they had been duped. I dont know if there is any section 8 housing in the Florida Keys, but if there is, its here. This is the equivalent of a chubby person taking a selfie and holding the camera wayyyyyy up high to remove at least one or two double chins. Freakin Sunshine Key held their camera up so high it was up in the clouds when they snapped that shot. What im saying is that their website photos do not compare to what I saw and smelled. I ended up a few miles away at the KOA in sugar loaf. Not that great, but at least clean and quiet.
I just have a few simple rules, one being that I will not vacation with my travel trailer at a place other people are using as their primary residence. Otherwise, I would just set up my Keystone Ultralite in my driveway and wave at my own neighbors instead of driving 1600 miles to do it.
My advise: book your travel trailer trip at Bahia Honda State Park. They are across the bay from this dump. I saw many travel treilr sites up near the water. They were separated from each other and it looked awesome. I had tried booking a site there, but they fill up months in advance. My tough luck, as it turned out.

The sites are pretty spacious considering your in the Keys. There are a lot of permanent campers so getting around to the site’s are a little tight. No beach to speak of but does have a nice marina. You have to pay for WiFi which is not cheap. We stayed in site 22.

We are driving back up from Sunshine Key now. We stayed for the long weekend. Loved the campground… I didn’t know what to expect at first but was totally satisfied.
We rented a trailer from the campground and I personally had never done that. But I loved it. My family had three trailers (aside from ours, the other two were owned). Loved the trailer… It slept 7 if you wanted to sleep snugly but we were just four in our trailer. It’s a great place to go with your family… Have a BBQ, bond and disconnect from the real world.
One thing I wouldn’t do is go if you don’t have some type of water sport to entertain yourself. The beach is not nice. We had four jet skis and a small boat. We weren’t out in any sandbar for too long as there were family members that stayed but it was enough to entertain yourself for 2 or 3 hours. After that we always came back starving and would eat, shower and relax.
I didn’t get around to the pool but I did pass it and there was loud music and lots of people.
There were definitely different crowds of people and levels of «partying» but it was all around a good time.
I took my puppy without a problem and he loved it! There are so many dogs that it was comforting. The ground has a little path designated for dogs to poop and pee and they provide little baggies.
Again, the beach isn’t that enjoyable but if you have a jet ski or a boat and can go out to a sandbar (Bahia Honda) I definitely recommend this place.
Definitely returning!

Rented a waterfront trailer here, it was exactly what I expected. Staff was quick at check-​in, trailer was clean and comfortable, we had a nice secluded spot on the NW corner of the property (I believe it was U-​4) with a private porch and great view.
As far as my evaluation of this park, most of it is row after row of rigs parked as close together as you’d expect. The pool area is on par with what you get at nice hotels but all the other amenities are pretty spartan. (We didn’t use the bath house so no report on that) There is a sewage treatment facility at the northernmost edge of the park (corner of Sunrise & Shark) and after walking through this area I would definitely recommend NOT getting a spot within a few hundred feet or you will be subjected to the non-​stop noise and smells.
The park was nearly full but quiet during our visit in mid-​February, most of the other guests were seniors and everyone we came across was friendly or they kept to themselves.

We stayed her in July during mini lobster season. We booked our camping site on there website. There is two campsites to choose from première and elite and there wasn’t a clear description or On site map, so I called to find out what the difference were. Première is NOT waterfront and elite was waterfront. I wanted waterfront, but also wanted electric, sewer and water and she said that was elite. I booked my elite site and on the road we went. When we arrived I checked in and she showed me a map of the RV park And circled my spot. I told her she must have gotten it wrong I wanted the elite spot with sewer. She said there is 2 elite sites one with sewer and one without. And she couldn’t move me because of the lister season. So everyday I had someone come and pump out my tanks. It was nice that they didn’t charge me for it. after all it was there mistake. usually it’s 15 dollars a day. We arrived to our spot and the view was so pretty. we unpacked and decided let’s go for a swim. Were our site was we couldn’t swim it was so mucky and you sunk. That was a disappointment. Just by the bridge you can swim that was nice. It was a hike to get to the pool but if you have your golf cart your good to go. When we entered the pool I swore I just walked into another country they had a DJ playing music. It was pretty loud, but I like that. Laundry room was clean the washer took forever, but there is a sign that tells you low water presser washer might take longer, so keep that in mind if you stay here. There is a gas/​store on site which sells awesome key lime pie. There is some residents that stay there all year long they are not that friendly neither is the front desk. Manager of the park was the nicest and most helpful. We understand they were shorthanded so we let some of it go. Over all it wasn’t a bad stay why complain when you are in the keys. But next time I am staying at bluewater RV park and resort. We did a drive through of that place and that felt like you were in the keys and not a trailer park. Like my husband likes to say if its not excellent it sucks!!!

We stayed here in August for a ridiculously decent rate. Awesome location in the Keys, office staff very friendly. For the price, if you know what to expect, it may be a good fit–
So that was the good stuff.
I have never in my life seen a campground or campers like this. Total chaos. People sprawled into all sites, (the first two they sent us to had people’s cars, boats lawn chairs parked in them), dog poop EVERYWHERE. The loudest club music (past loud– onto distorted, mess) constantly.
Rude ass people, a gazillion golf carts zooming around (with portable blaring club music) all day, and all night. So basically this was full of trashy people. It really was. FULL of them. We stayed here merely as a place to dock while we did fun stuff in the keys. And that’s the only way it would work for us. I slept fine because I blasted our loud a/​c all night to drown out the noise. The bathrooms were not kept up well, and the pool was brimming with tons of lovely people.
I felt uncomfortable leaving our camper unattended for the whole day and half the night. I didn’t set up anything, and even pulled the step in while we were gone. One night I was walking back from the bathhouse and saw a golf cart full of teens peeking in our windows.
If you’re a classic type of camper, who enjoys nature, and siting outside or cooking or feeling at ease… this may not be your scene.

Excellent place to get away to. Just across the 7 mile bridge from Marathon and miles away from everyday.
Sit out have a refreshment and watch the sun go down. Only thing better is a fresh catch on the grill and that can be accomplished quickly.
Store on-​site has everything you «need» or forgot.
