Dude Rancher Lodge

Parents room wasn’t ready the first time they tried to check in so they waited till four. They were given a key, got to the room and it was dirty. So, they were given another room. Returned from the baseball game started to get settled in and another couple had also been rented this room and been given keys. On top of that there were employees, hopefully off duty drinking beer and talking about very personal topics outside of the rooms still in uniform.

probably the most comfortable bed i’ve slept on in any hotel i’ve stayed at so that was pretty awesome. and the tub in our room had jets in it which was also a nice touch. heater was broken though in our room. other than that it was a great stay! enjoyed the rustic look and feel of the rooms

Great! We loved it. The front desk lady that checked us in wasn’t really a ray of sunshine, but she did her job and that’s all that matters. The room was nice! A lot of floor space and the bed/​pillows were incredibly comfortable. It has a Jacuzzi tub which we were not expecting. The room also had a mini fridge and microwave, it didn’t say that on the website so we had to call them but that was good because we didn’t have to go out and eat for every meal. The shower was really nice, and the water was actually HOT! Normally at hotels it kind of warm if you’re lucky, but the water got so hot here it was great! We did have four drunk people next door but we called the front desk and they fixed it right away. The tv was really nice as well! The one negative thing I would say is the heater, it definitely worked but when it turned on it was SO loud. After the click of it turning on it was not loud anymore but when it turned on it was very very loud. But honestly besides that we cant think of anything negative. We absolutely loved our stay. we will definitely be back.
side note– i would not recommend
to book a room. they charged us a fee and never told us and the room was actually 54 but we paid 65 because of the fee. I know its not alot for one of two nights but if you’re planning to stay a while, that can add up quick.

Quaint historic 2star hotel downtown. Good location and well within walking distance of food and beverage.
Old hotel with charming rooms and staff. Everyone is friendly, beds are comfortable, rooms have fridge, blow dyers, and some rooms have Jacuzzi tubs.
With your stay, you get a pick if breakfast for $ 5 on restaurant on site. I recommend the eggs benedict!
Some people complain about the color of the bathroom sink/counter.but I love the red and the the blue. it adds charm.
We stay here every time we visit our daughter at Rocky mountain college. and they offer a discount for parents of students here.

I enjoyed my stay at the Dude Rancher. It’s a great location, just a couple of blocks to the downtown area. It’s great for the price, as hotels in the Billings area are pricey. The beds were super comfy! Very clean, quite and safe place. The bathroom in our room was not updated, but all the appliances worked okay. On our last day, we checked out the café. For $ 5, you get a huge proportion! I wasn’t able to finish all of my meal, but the pancakes were fantastic! FYI: some people get confused with the voucher they hand out. To clarify, it’s $ 5 per person in your party. In all, I was happy with my stay and would definitely come back if I’m in Billings again!

Been here many times room clean but they up the price on me this time. Like the beds and it’s very relaxing.

This place is disgusting and the staff down stairs are oblivious to guests… do not book here

OK it’s not new but it has a charm to it and the most comfortable beds!
If you are just passing through and need a room for a night, this place is great. It was nice breathing in fresh Montana air through windows that actually opened. The lady at the counter recommended a great place to eat, the Montana brewery which is close enough to walk to. The breakfast is soooooo good and is only $ 5 a person of you stay at the dude rancher. We’d go back for sure.

After noticing that every hotel in the neighborhood of Yellowstone were priced ridiculously high, my partner and I decided to take a detour into Montana. We saw the laughable reviews on Unilocal,the modest price, and decided we had to check the Dude Rancher out for ourselves. We were very pleasantly surprised. The front desk woman was friendly and allowed us to easily change our reservation to a king size bed. The room was very quaint and felt like staying in a cozy cabin in the northern woods. The bed was extremely comfy and we found the town surprisingly buzzing with nightlife. (We recommend eating at Uberbrew, which isn’t far from the DR)
We had received a coupon for breakfast upon arrival for $ 5 off per person. Be sure to look at the coupon for it has the menu on it. There are 4 simple menu items but they do them perfectly.
We had an excellent stay and would return.

This was a fun place to stay for our family. We enjoyed the rustic décor, friendly staff, and hearty $ 5 breakfast. If you want something different from the usual chains, something with a bit more character and western feel, this is a great place.

We booked a queen room at the Dude Rancher Lodge for our honeymoon. We did a ten day trip out west and needed to pass through Billings and thought this looked like a festive hotel for a night. We got in late, around 10 pm after driving for about 8 hours. When we arrived the lady behind the desk just kept reading her book. She finally looked up and asked us if she could help us. I informed her that we had a room under our last name and she said ‘no you don’t’. She grabbed her list and reviewed it only to reiterate that we didn’t have a room. I pulled up the email on my phone that was sent to us directly from the Dude Rancher Lodge and showed it to her. She skimmed it, and quickly handed it back, grabbed her list and held it in my face then pointed at the computer telling me that I did not have a reservation if I’m not on the list or in the computer. I reminded her that we booked directly through the Dude Rancher website (not a third party) and that the email was FROM the Dude Rancher. She repeated that ‘your name isn’t on my list or in my computer — you don’t have a reservation’. I asked her who would’ve sent the email and she again told me that we didn’t have a reservation. I told her that it had a confirmation number, we reviewed the days and all of the information was correct. She put the confirmation number into her system only to state again ‘see, it’s not here, you don’t have a room’. It was then that she offered up the last room they had which was two double beds, but still reminding me that we didn’t have a reservation. We are reasonable people and absolutely would’ve taken this room had her customer service been acceptable. We understand that computers can often have minds of their own and have both worked with the general public before however she didn’t offer a friendly smile, an apology, an explanation that maybe it was a glitch, etc. She just kept telling me that we’re not on the list — we don’t have a reservation. My husband and I were exhausted and ended up walking to dinner where we searched priceline for another room which we found and it worked out great. We refer to this hotel now as the ‘Rude’ Rancher Lodge and we hope that many others don’t have a repeated experience. Call ahead several times to confirm your stay!

Stopped here for a night on our way through. This place has character. Beds were comfy. It was quiet even though the hotel was full. We got in late, but there were no problems with that. The carpets were really cool but old, so they had some stains. The a/​c wasn’t keeping it very cool, but that’s my only complaint. Bathroom was tiny but newly remodeled. Price was right too.

I was pretty unsure about staying here. But it turned out to be pretty nice place to stay for the price. Was just passing through Billings and needed a cheap place to crash. Beds were comfy and staff were nice. Décor was a little out of date. But it was still fine. Everything was clean.

Booked based on reviews. I would not call this hotel clean by any definition of the word. The carpets are in desperate need of vacuum and cleaning. Ever heard of a crevasse tool? The edges along walls look like they have never been vacuumed. Gross. The room was dated, there was a hole in the bathroom door that had been patched. Really? They are cheap hollow 1960’s doors. Not expensive to replace at all. The bathroom tub was thankfully brand new and had good water pressure. The sink looked original. The faucet leaked all over the counter when you turned it on. The wall paper was nauseating and needed a good scrub down! The room smelled of mold and I woke up with a migraine even though we slept with the window open. I haven’t had a migraine in years.
The front desk clerk was not friendly at all, tall lady with short brown hair. Didn’t greet us when we arrived late, didn’t say thank you or have a nice stay… She seemed totally annoyed that we were there. I thought it was because it was so late but she was there in the morning when we checked out and same attitude. I do not recommend… Crown plaza was only 20 – 30 more per night and so worth it!

We arrived late and tired. We got in and were messing with the A/​C because the room was hot. Turns out they are on a boiler and hadn’t switched over yet so we had to open the window. We weren’t thrilled at that and even less so at the fact that the screen on the window appeared to have been tampered with as if someone tried to pry it open. The beds appeared clean but the bathroom smelled like old urine. For the price we paid I would definitely go elsewhere if I found myself in the area again.

Great place, first manager guy I met was semi-​rude, but then came in like a boss and hooked me up with a room that had parking next to it. Rooms have old school physical keys, so don’t loose it. Wifi was ok, nothing stellar, but it was free. Tubs had jets, but looked dirty. Overall nice place when staying in Billings.

Maybe I should’ve waited until I spoke with the front desk, and had more interaction with the other employees. Upon checkout, we were greeted by Carol, who was informed of our issues. Her customer service exceeded my expectations. She was extremely apologetic. She said that she would not only speak to the head housekeeper, but refund a portion of the charge. Then about twenty minutes later, Carol called us and said that she spoke with her manager, and he would be refunding the entire room. The combo of their customer service was beyond amazing. It’s unfortunate that we had housekeeping and Heather issues, when there are people who actually care about the guests and the hotel.

I had a great experience at this hotel. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the interior is surprisingly welcoming and comfortable. My room looked more like a bed and breakfast than a standard hotel room. It was very clean, cozy, and the bed was so comfortable.
I’m usually not too picky about accommodation while traveling, so I’m used to paying a low cost and essentially getting what I pay for — or less, in many cases. This hotel was very reasonably priced for how comfortable it was — especially when compared to other hotels at a similar price. The staff was friendly, the wifi was fast and reliable, the water pressure was good, and the room had personality and was tastefully decorated. It felt very warm and «homey.»
A breakfast coupon cost $ 5 and included a beverage. I ordered Eggs Benedict and hot tea, and it came out on a huge plate with a side of hash browns. Breakfast tasted great, wasn’t greasy, and was very filling. This meal elsewhere would have easily cost $ 15.
No complaints here. If I ever need an overnight in Billings again, I won’t hesitate to book this hotel.

We were drawn to the lodge because of the reviews about the kind staff, quaint décor and comfortable accommodations. We were not let down!
Chris and Carol at the front desk were kind, helpful and quick with recommendations for places to go in Billings. We loved our room– a comfortable bed, table and chair, armoire and dresser and even a flat screen tv with digital cable. Our bathroom was clean and they had the best smelling soap.
The shower was a bit short for us (we’re both six feet+), but it was workable. The biggest challenge we had was the room being hot because, even in May, the hotel heat was still in since it got down to 40 at night. The front desk made sure we had a fan and we opened our window, so it did cool off eventually and we got to snuggle under the cozy blankets.
We had breakfast in the restaurant for $ 10 + tip through a lodge promo. We loved the sausage links and French toast and year coffee wasn’t bad either!
This is definitely the place to stay in Billings. Do not settle for a chain hotel!

Just got back from my 3^rd stay here. I’ve never actually paid to stay here because my company has picked up the tab. But for $ 80/​night this is solid, clean, cozy, and warm place to stay if you’re ever in Billings.
If I was White instead of Yellow, I would’ve felt like I was staying at my grandparent’s or Uncle’s house. The extraordinarily friendly staff is even friendlier than in Hawaiin hotels. These aren’t corporate trained fake-​friendly staff, these people are old school, providing genuine Midwestern hospitality in which you feel like you’re staying in their home. I even checked out well past the 11AM checkout time and they didn’t charge me extra.
I also ate at the restaurant for the first time… AWESOME hashbrowns! Loaded with butter and grease, but still crunchy!
I just wish the toilet paper was softer… but luckily this time I brought my own roll of 3-​ply Charmin. ;-)
