Our newest products are our line of rustic snowshoe furniture! Also made with white ash, our furniture actually has a wooden snowshoe in the frame. We have a line including snowshoe chairs, snowshoe rocking chairs, snowshoe end tables, magazine racks, wall decorations, and more, with even more to come soon!

The best part is this company is the major funding support for the Pine Grove Program, which provides free outdoor adventures of all kinds to our veterans.

History

Established in 1955.

Local folks tell us this wooden snowshoe company was started in the Bingham/Forks area of Maine in the 50’s. It began with Walter York who was an avid outdoorsman and could lace snowshoes. We believe we are the 4th owners of the company, and we have expanded it tremendously since purchasing it in 1998. One of the owners, Bob Howe, is a Master Maine Guide with the largest snowshoe hare hunting guide service at Pine Grove Lodge. He uses snowshoes every day and knows what people who need snowshoes really need them to do. This past winter, he invented the «First Snowshoe with Reverse», a wooden snowshoe with the rear turned up like the toe allowing a person to back up in the snow, no matter how deep it is; you can even back up a hill!

This past winter we were very excited to sponsor Mariya Gilliland, Team Alaska, in the 2012 Arctic Winter Games for the snowshoe biathlon competition. She was excellent and won a gold, 2 silvers, and a bronze medal!

Meet the Business Owner

Bob H.

Business Owner

Bob Howe is a Maine Master Guide and owner of Pine Grove Lodge and Cabins. He has been a user of wooden snowshoes for most of his 56 years, and has been the owner of this company for the last 15. He knows what works, and has a wonderful blend of traditional steamed white ash and new, high tech rope for lacing.

Bob also formed the Pine Grove Program, a program of FREE outdoor adventures for military, veterans, and other American heroes! Events are provided monthly, trips given weekly, and family lodging and outing packages given frequently. Maine Guide Snowshoes donates a portion of the profit to the Program to help support it, along with raffles, annual Golf tourneys, and private donations.
