Pickle Hill B&B

We came here while visiting family for an engagement party. The couple, Tom and Leslie couldn’t have been any more hospitable. We were the only guests for the weekend so it was nice to have the place to ourselves. This was such a cozy and warm place to stay with a absolutely delicious breakfast. We had grapefruit and apple pancake which was so good and when my parents stopped by to say goodbye to us, Leslie and Tom offered them breakfast and coffee too! This is definitely the place to stay if you’re in the area. The inviting atmosphere, yummy food, and reasonable price all make this gem worth the stay.

Don’t even think about staying anywhere else in the Binghamton area. I recently went up for Family Weekend at the University and couldn’t get a room. Luckily, I stumbled onto this amazing gem. Tom was out of town but Leslie was the warmest, most welcoming hostess imaginable. She picked us up at the train station and even dropped us off at a restaurant later on that evening. The house is quintessentially cozy and breakfast was excellent. Lovely to come back in the evening to tea and cake. Very reasonably priced and comfy.

About the hosts:
Tom was a wonderful host (we didn’t have the chance to meet his wife, Leslie, but love her pie!). My boyfriend and I only stayed there for a night, but Tom still treated us very warmly, and gave us suggestions on the local restaurants for dinner. When we got back, we saw him sitting on the front porch with another guest, they were chatting and enjoying tea. He offered to make us tea and asked what time we prefer to have breakfast, and what beverage we would like with it. It made me feel like coming home to my grandparents’, very warm and loving.
The next morning, breakfast was ready on the table at the exact time we requested. Plenty of choices for tea (I don’t drink coffee), and a pitcher of tasty orange juice (I told him I would like to have orange juice for breakfast last night) for just the two of us! How generous! Also, Leslie made fresh zucchini pie for us and we could eat till we full! Toward the end of breakfast, Tom came out and chat with us like family, talking about our favorite chefs on Food Network and Leslie’s delicious pie. The other guest who preferred to have breakfast at later time also came down and showed me his beautiful water color paint cards. Tom and Leslie cooked the scramble eggs he requested. They really care for their guests!

About the house:
You will love this house if you love old houses. It’s more than 100 years old but still in good condition. I love the country style decoration and the wooden slide-​door in the shared bathroom. The common room has a small tv and many many books to read! If you are with friends, there are also plenty of board games and cards for you to play. They also have two pianos in the living room and welcome guests to play and sing along! Our room was cozy and very clean. Again I love the country style deco. The bed sheet was very clean and the light blanket was just perfect for summer night.
OK, I know it can’t be all good, nothing is perfect. So, to be honest, the carpet was a little too thick, but it didn’t bother me because it was very clean and I didn’t have to worry about my heavy foot steps waking up other guests in the house. Also, there were too many things in the living room so it looks a bit messy and crowded, but so what?
The price was very reasonable. I searched other B&B before and Pickle Hill is the most economical, yet I’m sure the quality of service is as good as any other B&B in the area. A Police Station is across the street so it’s very safe even when you come back very late at night. Those who live in the big city like me, Pickle Hill will make you feel like coming home to your loving grandparents.

We recently stayed at this B&B for one night while traveling to another city. We ended up being super late but the owners were still very nice and accommodating (we did call to update them on our progress). Room was very clean as well as the bathroom. Bed was comfortable but squeaky. Breakfast was delish and they made sure that we had enough to eat. They ask what time you want breakfast which is nice because some B&Bs only serve breakfast at the time they want. Price was very reasonable. They take cash or check. Easy to find from the highway. I also left something behind and they made sure to call me to let me know they found it. Highly recommended.
