Wow! I can’t believe I’m the first to review Dr. Adams’ practice. It’s definitely is a five-star recommendation. After a couple of childhood head traumas, I was diagnosed with cataracts at age twenty. However, they were not pressing, and I didn’t have insurance throughout much of my twenties. I’m glad I waited until finding Dr. Adams. And believe me, I’ve researched this for years. Dr. Adams is not just the best in Birmingham but probably the best cataract surgeon in the South. Dr. Adams offers more than one option — the typical lenses will still require you to wear glasses. You may have to have glasses after your natural lenses are removed and replaced with standard lenses. Dr. Adams has three other options including the standard. I opted with to go with astigmatism management and blended vision. With the blended vision, I have one eye geared for distance and the other for intermediate vision. Yes, it takes a minute for your brain to catch up, but it’s so comfortable. My vision is back to 20⁄20 in each eye! I didn’t wear glasses as a child — all my eyes issues were tied to the cataracts. Now, I don’t require glasses as an adult. I have a couple different strengths of readers for reading — that’s all. I was terrified even though this is a very common surgery. For my first eye, I didn’t go under easily, so they gave me extra doses. I don’t remember a thing about the surgery. And I didn’t want to remember it, so for that I am grateful. Seriously, I woke up in recovery telling someone they looked like an angel, then asking if they were Indian. Yeah, I was pretty out of it. For my second eye, I went under general anesthesia. It was a breeze. Finding a vein for the IV was the only uncomfortable part of the day, and even that wasn’t that bad. It’s your eyeballs. And if you’re still young, you’ll be using them for another 40+ years, so consider that when choosing your doctor. There’s more than just one type of lens. I was very terrified and squeamish, so I’m pleasantly surprised that the experience went so smooth. I liked the staff and nurses; they are cool and friendly. Dr. Adams is the best!
