History

Established in 1973.

After Bob himself retired from daily life at the store in 1981, Roger took the reins and has helped further grow the store into a fixture of the Birmingham cycling community. No stage since the original store’s opening has been as significant as when Bob’s Bikes Specialized Concept Store opened in May of 2008.

«We have opened a few stores here and there,» said Roger. «But nothing excited me more than the idea of a concept store, so I jumped at the chance to do it. We opened the concept store May of 2008 and it surpassed the original location within 1 year in sales.» Uncertain as to what would result from all the economic rumblings at the time, Roger decided to close the original Bob’s Bikes store in order to concentrate his time and energy on the building upon the success of the Concept location.

After over 36 years of involvement in Bob’s Bikes, Roger is more passionate about cycling and his business than he ever has been, and it shows in the products he sells and the company he keeps.

«We carry every style of bicycle including children bikes and comfort bikes, but a lot of our passion really is in the road bike and upper end mountain bike area,» he said. In order to give back to the cycling community that has literally kept him employed for nearly 4 decades, Roger supports a Cycling team, Infinity Cycling with multiple state titles and a national jersey or two.

No visit to Bob’s Bikes would be complete, however, without having a full BG bike fit., making sure you’re getting the most out of your current ride, or, even better, to ensure your new bike fits like it was built for you.
