I absolutely love Homewood Toy and Hobby. It’s our go to place for gifts for the kids in our life. As a bit of a kid myself, I totally love their model and train selection. It simply couldn’t be better.

I’m no expert on gifts for kids, so I was dreading trying to figure out what to buy for my nephew’s second birthday, a friend’s new baby, and the big brother. Homewood Toy & Hobby Shop is the way to go! Got perfect gifts for all and it didn’t take a long time. Imagine being at Walmart-​Mart and having a question about a gift — this place was the exact opposite. Staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They will also gift wrap them for you! Will be back.

I could spend days wondering around this store. That’s actually saying a lot, because it’s not that big. Somehow, this little shop has anything and everything a kid (or a kid at heart) could need.
The RC/​Model section is expansive and full of ready to go systems, as well as pieces to fix your crashed plane, car, or boat. Let’s be honest… you’ll need these pieces.
The owners and employees are always helpful and polite. I can honestly say that Homewood Toy & Hobby is the only place I need to go for my kids presents and when Santa is doing a little shopping for himself.

Well, they’re no Toys R Us. Thank goodness! This is a rare remnant of the old fashioned toy store. Quality toys, minus the gimmicky fads. On top of that, the majority of the employees happen to be the owners, which is another rarity.
They not only know their toys– they know kids, too. Just tell them junior’s age and interests– and they’ll make sure you’re the hero of the birthday party!

My first time at this store was in search of a starter remote-​control airplane for my «anything that flies– enthusiest» boyfriend. There’s a couple of men who run the back ‘hobby’ area and they’re great. Very knowledgable and helped me pick out the perfect plane for his skill-​level. They have anything you’d need for r/​c planes, helicopters, trains, boats and cars.
I’ve since been back every time I’ve needed a gift/​toy for the kids. They have a great selection of classic toys, learning games, dolls, Playmobil, Melissa and Doug, and just all around unique kid stuff that can’t be found elsewhere.
Homewood is notoriously bad for their parking situation, but Homewood Toy and Hobby has a parking lot out back for their customers with a convenient rear-​entrance so you don’t have to walk around.

The best toy shop in Birmingham. If you want to find that special something for that special little boy/​girl then this place is it. Yes you will spend a little more, but you are getting the quality that you will not find anywhere else. I love to just go in here and browse and usually will end up getting something because everything is so cool. You can find something economical or something really expensive and you will be happy either way. I love, love, love this store. They have a huge selection of model trains, helicopters, remote control cars, rocket supplies, Thomas and Chuggington stuff, playmobil,…I could go on and on. Just go and check it out. You will be impressed and if you are not impressed then you are not a child at heart.

This is a really neat hobby/​toy store for all sorts of great gift ideas! They have a huge selection of children learning toys, plastic model sets (like Revell), r/​c cars, r/​c planes, model trains (HO, N, etc.), and even Estes model rockets! The store has plenty of helpful employees available too!
Only given a 4 out of 5 stars because parking is absolutely awful in this part of Homewood.
