History

Established in 2005.

Swimming Pool Services, LLC (SPS) was started in 2005 as a service company by Glen Jacobson, a firefighter at the time, as a supplement to companies in the Birmingham area that did not provide service to their customers. Over the next few months as the company grew, there was a very obvious need for a swimming pool and spa retail store in the Hwy 280 area. In January 2006 SPS’s retail store opened in its current location at the Lee Branch Shopping Center, between Publix and Academy Sports. With that opening and exposure in the area SPS continued to grow and expand it’s scope of services to include maintenance, service, renovation and new pool construction. This growth at that time led to retirement from the fire service and putting full time effort into SPS. SPS continues to be a leader in the Birmingham area among pool companies in technique, new products, and training. All Techs. are Certified Pool Operators (CPO) and we use the most up to date equipment and water balancing methods.

Business Owner

Since 2005 Glen J. has been dedicated to not only learning the pool business in the Birmingham area, he has also made what is done at Swimming Pool Services, LLC (SPS) a step above what was available in the area. A career firefighter, Glen retired shortly after starting SPS and has been a leader in the trying to grow the reputation of the pool industry in the Birmingham area by reestablishing and becoming the current President of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals, AL Chapter. Glen also serves on the Regional Counsel for the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals. Glen has a degree from Jefferson State Jr. College and Athens State University along with numerous training programs. Glen is also a Certified Pool Operator Instructor.
